Thank you so much! That is a lovely thing to say. All you need to do is take your time learning, there should never be any rush. Start with the basics such as wet in wet washes, wet on dry, dry brush, fine details and so on, just to practice understanding how much paint to put onto that brush, the feel of the brush, and how the paint takes to the paper. Most of all enjoy the experience, Paul 🎨

@TheDevonArtist I'm learning that what "isnt" there is just as important as what is. The values of light and dark and the water to paint ratio. It's a learning curve for sure but I'm enjoying the challenge. It's beyond relaxing and fun! I do need to find some more angled brushes. I have mostly flat rounds and tiny liners. I did modify a couple of the rounds...that seems to be working for now! ❤️

This is so great Paul! I’ve been trying to figure out how to do a dark background for a while now so this is very helpful! I watched the Kingfisher painting video to see how you painted the bird as well. The finished painting is stunning!!! Thank you as always for your wonderful videos ☺️

Thank you so much for this video. I love painting dark backgrounds but they never work for me. They end up splotchy where I really want a solid colour. I have been looking for a tutorial like this for ages. This is just what I needed. You always make it look so easy. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for your kind words. 😊 I'm glad I am of some help, as you know painting backgrounds can always be tricky, just remember to ensure you wet the paper at least three times, allowing each layer of water to soak into the paper for half a minute, before adding the paint. This way, the paper will stay wetter longer, giving you a little more working time. Paul 🎨

@@TheDevonArtist That bit of information helped enormously. I always just wet once and then head straight in. I am going to try this on my next painting.
