  • Erin's first lesson on big roundabouts, a little intro with a talk through on how to slow down on the lead up to a roundabout.
    Erin's main concern is her approach speed to junctions, so thats what we worked on today.

Looking forward now to learning everything else!

  • @Stallzyx

    Great lesson and reminded me of my refresher lessons I had in the previous few months as I hadn't driven for 3 years and know that my main thing in my drives since I passed (6.5 years ago) was also speed coming up to roundabouts. However more the case in my area there's 60/70mph dual carriageway coming up to multiple roundabouts back to back, and so getting that speed down is really important. My driving instructor didn't really advise a particular speed and so I figured out maybe 25mph or so is good to slow down to from 60 or 70, but maybe 15 is more appropriate for the 30mph ones if you say. Most of driving now is based on feel rather than reference points and staring at the speedo, but I do this usually just to make sure I'm not going over the speed limit, or actually I had a good idea of what speed we should be travelling at just based on the roads. In that respect the speed limits are done quite well, as I wouldn't think it was appropriate or safe to drive any quicker than what the limit actually is.

    • @Stallzyx
      @Stallzyx Год назад +1

      @@jziffi hmm I'm still not driving a lot now and may need some more before doing more motorway driving or just dive in as I have done a few long drives in those lessons
      I would say around 12 hours of refresher lessons, so three weeks of 2 x 2hr lessons is what I think I had to feel more confident again

  • @keith6400
    @keith6400 Год назад +2

    Regulating braking on approach to roundabout obviously gives a slower and easier speed to handle the turn. Doing the last several yards a t a slower speed allows you to choose the precise time you arrive at the stop line. At 3:49 if we had a suitable amount of speed and correct distance to go to the give way line the bus would have blocked out all traffic and let us continue without stopping. We would have ideally been arriving two seconds later.

    I’m literally the exact same as Erin! I panic too much with roundabouts and sometimes turnings as I’m not braking enough and slowing down early enough to gear down. So I end up gearing down late and then panicking because I’m suddenly at the roundabout or junction where I need to focus on other things 😂😅 Genuinely don’t know when to time my braking as I worry about cars behind me too much
