This song perfectly describes the term "Sonder" - The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passing in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it. Thank you American Football, the master cinmetographer and all those involved.
one step ahead: strangers passing in the street by chance two sepparate glances meet, i am you and what i see is me. but maybe this generation isn't ready for it
i think this video beautifully illustrates how everyone you see can be a protagonist if you simply shift your perspective also how everyone is so much more connected than we realize
@@MusicOrLoseItTVPlaylists The plot is emotional. Various people all longing for connection - connection they once had (with the first character), connection with someone who's standing right next to them, etc. The original song (that this is a cover of), tonally, focuses on the *beauty* of that. The ease of getting lost in someone else's world. *This* comment seems to focus more on the simple beauty of having a world full of interesting people. The music video's tone is different too, and seems to indicate a sadness that comes when we are unable to cross the barrier between people, or when we become so absorbed in their life, that we cannot appreciate our own, and where we are right now. It's all just suggested at, imo.
This perfectly captures that feeling of always having eyes on you, where you feel trapped inside of yourself. Haunting music video, couldn't look away for a single second.
Being born in 77 and a 90's kid, I was skeptical of a cover, of such an amazing song, but it is splendidly done. The video is absolutely superb, and is the epitome of visual communication. It tells many different stories, that are basically just the story of life, and how we are all connected more closely than we acknowledge on an everyday basis. It's easier said than done in a world getting crazier every minute, but it is true, always try to be kind, because you never know what someone else may be going through.
For as long as I can remember (the original was released the year I was born), Fade Into You was always being played in the background. I never thought to ask why, but sometimes it would make my mom cry. Now I’m watching this video through tears. She would have loved this cover. She would be 55 today. Love you, Ma.
This music video is deeply depressing and warm at the same time...I love it. The music is great to listen after a heart break driving alone in a empty highway toward the sunset.
In 7th grade a girl fell in love with me and I thought she was a weird nerd. Several years later I moved back to my hometown and saw her again and instantly fell in love with her. She sent me the original of this song along with “Lay Lady Lay” and those two songs still remind me of her to this day. She married another guy who was on and off with her for years, but I still think of her and always with the thought “that’s what falling in love feels like”. Have never felt it (lasting) since, 20 years later
@@jovanjones9083 I appreciate the gesture. I’ve tried to drown my loneliness with substances for years. I recently was able to pull out of it after a year of heavy nightly drinking. Still the hurt persists
I don’t think we often realize that opportunities like that, don’t come very often in life. For some, it never does. So even though things don’t always turn out as we hope for, we need to remember to be grateful we at least felt it…even if it’s only for a brief moment.
I was feeling really emotional today, reminiscing on past relationships i've had with people, and this video just made me cry really hard. Being a human is a really beautiful experience, filled with different kinds of moments, people, joys, tears, love, hate, all sorts of emotions, they're so powerfull that they can physically ache. The video made me think about all of the lives and experiences of the people i've met, and how they are doing at this precise moment. I'm a young fella, 18 right now, but If theres one advice I can share, is try to live the most you can, you will not regret it, these moments are worth it, this moment is.
People change, People leave. Us as humans are just as there for each other as we are distant. Sometimes the ones you love leave this world, sometimes the friendship fade, sometimes they just grow apart. But there will always be the memory And the times you have with them. Good or bad the memories fade into us, we adapt and it becomes an integral part of us. People May fade, but the truth is they'll never truly leave us.
I watched this 3 times before realizing the entire video is edited in the style of 8mm full frame like in an old film reel. I don't know why, but damn does that add depth to an already beautiful composition.
I usually listen to this band when I go to college. I use to think like everyday is different from where I started, something has changed throughout my life and I wanted to describe this type of feeling im living rn but I couldn't until I discovered this band. Im grateful.

i really hope a new album drops soon. thought ill miss Steve Lamos, the joy and energy he brought to the drumming and trumpet was awesome and unique, American Football will not be the same without him. and he will be missed.
His creative mind is one in a million. There are a lot of skilled drummers, but how many can come up with Stay Home drums over that guitar lines? The guy just see the song beyond the song and come up with unpredictable one of a kind drums.
@ghost mall Heres a direct Quote from Steve Lamos “After many years with American Football, my life situation has changed. Unfortunately, I now need to move on from the band,” My guess is that Steve either has other professional responisbilities looming, Lamos actually became a professor of english at the University of Colorado during American Football's 15 year haitus inbetween LP1 and LP2 Maybe something in his personal life is preventing him from fully commiting to the band, but i gather from his response that this departure feels mutual and personal, its doesnt feel sour or toxic, maybe he even outgrew being in the band for all we know. heres another quote from Lamos “I wish you all the best as the band moves on to its next phase. Finally, I’d like to thank AF fans: you have provided me with some truly amazing experiences-and some truly amazing memories. I’m deeply grateful.” For whats its worth, I believe Lamos was the beatting heart of American Football, the drumming and trumpeting he played on "Never Meant", "Stay Home", "The One With The Wurlitzer", as well as on the most recent LP3 with "Doom in Full Bloom", "Every Wave to Ever Rise," and "Silhouettes" showcasing his incredible talents and musicanship, and his contributions to American Football cannot be understated.
The original is one of my favorite songs ever. It's timeless and always gives me a certain feeling when I hear it. This is a beautiful version too and gives me another special feeling. I love it.
Amazing how a band can make you cry during one part of your life and then release something completely different yet achieve the same effect years later.
Depending on your mood, this either feels like running through a field of wildflowers at sunset while breathing in the fresh air, or it can feel like running away from yourself until you step into quicksand and begin to suffocate while desperately trying to crawl out.
I used to listen to the original one with my best friend in boarding school, at night we screamd "fade into you" all over the school, thinking about the boys we loved and how much we were depressed, now she is so far away, this cover remind me of her
I knew I recognized the girl from the thumbnail. Miya Folick has such a nice voice and she definitely made Hope Sandoval proud with this. I'd totally recommend hearing "thingamajig" from Miya
I love how this video illustrates the deep desires that we try to hide when we get bored of all the good in our life. We long for more intense experiences because we are all human and have been conditioned to do so. When we feel happiness we think of ways to experience even more happiness instead of being content with the greatness in our lives. No matter how grand. Once its boring we long fore more, and then we lose those things we are happy about and wonder why we were so stupid to throw it all away.

I remember a partner once confided in me the abuse they had suffered in a past relationship and it was heavy, real heavy, the sort of pain you just have to try feel something of just to give them some sense that what they've been through can even be understood. Little did I know at the time the abuse i'd suffered my whole life I had mentally hidden away would be coming for a reckoning that would pull my life down not long after. We went out on my balcony for a cigarette and smiled at drunk people in the street and our new closeness. It was the last time I felt carefree in my life. I've never felt it again since, but this song can at least remind me of that feeling, or at least the comfort of knowing I am a person who does feel.

I look to you, and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life, you go in shadows
You'll come apart, and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
A stranger's light comes on slowly
A stranger's heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then smiles cover your heart
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
I think it's strange you never knew
This is incredible…
Song doesn't need a remake
It’s not a remake. It’s a cover. A remake is a very limited way of thinking about it and implying they're trying to replace the original when in reality they're paying homage to a beautiful song with their own rendition.
One of my favorite songs. Very nice interpretation….I’m going to like and subscribe….
