I quit cold turkey. I didn't know alcohol withdraws could be that bad. I was shaking so bad i couldn't even type in my unlock code for my phone. I went to the hospital and i was restrained due to hallucinations. I was there for a week. I'm doing alot better now. Trust Me to whom ever reads this, Go to your Doctor or Find a place to help.

      suggestions on tapering?
Been drinking since I was 15, going on 40+ years. Normally 5 to 10 beers/vodka and sours a day. Mom passed away in June, and I've been dealing with a LOT of depression and anxiety, stopped going to work on July 1st, and just started sitting around the house ALL day drinking. I realize this is NOT good for me and would like to cut back, possibly quite all together, but reading about the withdrawals and possible DT's scares the ever loving fuck out of me. I've started to cut back on my own, won't touch a drop until at least afternoon, and try to walk away from the bottle by at least 9:00 pm. But have no CLUE what do do next. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Don't know that i can completely walk away from drinking right now, but do know I need to do something

Cold turkey is the best way and pray is the best way. The bible says greater is he that is in me that he that is in the world. So i have control over the body not the other way around.

Good advise. I’m sure cold turkey can work for some people, but it IS dangerous. My friend’s brother died at 27 years old from quitting cold turkey. I was shocked! How do you die from quitting? But since, I’ve seen other cases (but just on Documentaries). Heed this man’s advice!!

I've been drinking heavily for two years straight (having a drink daily) and I'm finally at a point where I want to quit. I've decided to go the tapering route since I'm too scared to go cold turkey. Whenever I go at least 24 hours without drinking, I can instantly feel my blood pressure shoot up. It's pretty scary. Also, I feel shaky and weak, have upset stomach and insomnia. I ended up having to drink a little bit to help ease the symptoms. Even though I'm hesitant, I may just go to the doctor and ask for a prescription for benzos.

Tapering is a good idea, that’s how I quit together with heaps of food and litres of lemon water.
Benzos are good but also addictive.

I only drank a bottle of wine and a few cans or 7 or 8 pints in the pub plus half a bottle of wine or cider and I got awful, terrifying symptoms. I did that for years but only a month ago did I get physically dependent. Librium saved my life.

I drank jeavily a fifth a day of vodka for 2 years straight. Prior to i was sober for about 3 months. Prior to that i drank 5 days a week for 10 years. I recently quit again ...this time cold turkey. I had shakes for 3 days. Threw up alot the first day. Clammy for 3 days. After that....completely fine. So it can be done.

That's because you can have a heart attack. The chest pain he's describing is because your heart rate sky rockets during alcohol withdrawal. I've been through it. Like a dumbass I tried cold turkey too. The end result wasn't good. There's a better way. I hope you're doing well. You don't have to drink again.

here's a few tips for quitting drinking quickly
Try to eat food while you are drinking - this cuts down the amount you drink.
    Take a break from alcohol.
Make a note of how much you drink, then you know if you are cutting down.
Set goals - don't make them too difficult at first.
Pick 1 or 2 days or each week when you will not drink at all. Then, try to stop drinking for one week each month.
(I read these and why they work from Adoette Drink Plan website )

I'm sitting here freaking out. I've had some personal issues that cause me to get out of my regular already excessive drinking and into a two week binge. But never before had I had to stop running or literally forced to have a drink or several to be able to go to work. I'm scared shitless. I don't want to go to the hospital. I'm gonna try to taper down. I think I had 17 freaking drinks on Sunday. I'm in serious trouble

    • @TreyJones
      @TreyJones  6 лет назад +3

Hey bud. I would try the taper thing but you have to stick with it, especially if you dont want to have to go to the hospital. If you find yourself not able to taper down then you will have to be honest with yourself and make an appointment and see if something like treatment is for you! There is no shame in getting help. Weed (THC) merely magnifies either a guilty conscience, or an insecure personality.
It's like alcohol releasing your inhibitions ...only for your Id or your Superego.
It eliminates the refractory period your neurotransmitters need in order not to fry your brain.
It enhances the imagination (and a lot of other things) -- hence the greatly enhanced creativity and whatnot.
People forget that this enhancement, brought on by an 'overclocked' brain, also works on one's insecurities and whatnot.
I recommend that one keep one's THC tolerance low.
If only to give your neurotransmitters a rest.

I by no means recommend this but I was a heavy drinker for many years and had gone through DTs, visual hallucinations, the whole 9. This was a long time ago but I was attempting to quit again, and only had 3 2mg Xanax, and a bag of gummies from the shop. I took half the bar in the morning with a gummy day 1, the other half at night for 3 days. Every time i took a piece of the bar, I’d eat a gummy. I had planned it out. I’m going to quit on a Thursday night, and make it through the weekend. This worked for me for those who have options and don’t want to go to a hospital by all means if you feel those symptoms creeping get to the hospital

I had a friend who quit drinking and went to rehab and died of a heart attack within 6 months after quitting he died of a heart attack. He was in his fifties. He had been a heavy drinker of liquor. He really wanted to quit drinking. At this time I realized how dangerous quitting alcohol can be.

  • @wisdom47397

You gotta taper off! Create a schedule of alcoholic
drinks per day and reduction; don't go to fast, your body needs a time to adjust to a change...Sometimes we would give alcohol to patients at the hospital; it depends on how heavy you are drinking. Cold turkey is not good idea. Be kind to yourself, taper off.

I've been a heavy drinker for probably 10 to 12 years now and I have quit cold turkey probably a dozen or more times. The worst thing I've had doing that is really dark and vivid nightmares or night terrors. One time I quit after drinking a 1.75 of whiskey in two days for about a year straight I would go through about 3 big bottles of alcohol in a week's time. Sometimes more. And when I quit cold I had the scariest hallucinations. Shit is no joke.

When i quit drinking .. i didn't get withdrawal bad.. i just got mild skins crawling depending on how much I drank .but I mostly binged cause it was footballs weekends . Other than the skin crawling , I noticed people would annoy me at work and I couldn't wait to get off work and go by the bar ( which I have to pass on the way home ) because i felt anxious and have a drink . Drinking was more of a social thing because I wanted to see who was working or who was in there

That some scary stuff. Thanks for keeping us informative. I started having severe chest pains about a two weeks ago. I went to the ER and got an EKG, blood work, and X-rays I was all around healthy now 2 weeks into it with no beef and I feel like I can’t breathe. The doctor said I was fine. My anxiety claws at me everyday. I had two beers this weekend. Then felt fine but after the booze war off my chest was so tight and I was so tense. How do I get rid of these chest pains. I also hate to admit to alcoholism but I probably drink 6 days a week at least a 6 pack or more. Of stuff like IPA’s and al that jazz. I didn’t know when to stop until now.

take these observations of the guy in video. But from my non drinking (now) perspective i can see about 50% of this being accurate. But its all individualistic to each person. To me seems like a scare technique. For me i looked forward to getting through the detox and on ward and upward after that. I did cold turkey. best thing i ever did for myself. But each are different to the individual themselves. Walking off a curb is dangerous but i dont need a doctor to tell me i can cross it. either way its going to be the first step of a new life! TBH...its kind of an adventure....

ive quit alcohol cold turkey 3 times by now im not really a guy that drinks 1 year straight, the longest i went straight was 3 months and let me tell you when i stopped after the 3 months cold turkey it didnt feel so bad. the second time it didnt feel that bad because i did it for 1 month but for some reason i had a binge of 2 weeks recently and wow i felt horrible. i think it has to do alot with how old you are. as you can see in my photo i dont look like i even drink because i work out alot.

The president of the USA could be an alcoholic. Alcohol takes no preference to colour, gender or creed or how fit and healthy you seem to be. There are different types of alcoholics but it still leads to the same thing. Hope you're ok too.

does anyone know if weed helps with dts. I've been drinking for around 12 years. It's to the point that I drink heavily about six days a week. sometimes 7. It's to the point that I'm aware it's killing me. I hardly eat because I want to drink and I don't drink after eating. I'm not sure how I get home sometimes. I could use the advice. thanks for posting brother.

Weed is a bad idea... It can exacerbate your symptoms and it's not a good idea to be introducing more chemicals into your brain while it's going through intense chemical changes, could cause seizures and psychosis.

It is an awesome exclusive guide for learning how to stop drinking minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my buddy got great results with it.

There are a few ideas for quitting booze at home
Try to eat food when you are drinking - this cuts down the amount you drink.
      Take a break from alcohol.
Make a note of how much you drink, then you know if you are cutting down.
Set goals - don't make them too hard at first.
Choose 1 or 2 days or each week when you will not drink at all. Then, try to stop drinking for one week each month.
(I learned these and the reasons they work from Adoette drink plan site )

At my height, I would drink 2 handles of green label every 3 days. I worked too. Every time I've quit, all that happened was severe irritability and mild anxiety. I am a pro timber faller, I seriously believe that the exersize (tons of it) involved with the job kept me okay. I had to stop cutting logs about 3 years ago and since then, I've gotten a fatty liver. Not drinking at all now.

Make sure you are exercising daily, eating healthy, keeping a journal, taking a multivitamin, practicing meditation in the mornings and evenings, practicing cbt, keep counseling or therapy as an option, watch positive affirmation and asmr videos, join online support groups, and most importantly do this everyday and dont give up!

The problem is this... (ESPECIALLY with PTSD/panic/Anxiety). I'm a veteran who's been dealing with this shit for 14+ years. I'm currently on TWO different anxiety meds, Sertralene and Buspirone, that can often take 4-6 weeks to begin working. The dumbass docs ask you right off the bat "Do you drink? How much, how often? How long?" So you answer truthfully "Yes, 5-6 a day, for 30 years - right after I joined the Army". THEN, they prescribe one of the meds and tell you "4-6 weeks till it kicks in, BUT... IN THE MEANTIME... NO ALCOHOL." How FUCKING realistic is that?? They want you to go cold turkey after 30 years of self medicating with alcohol, and just tough it out for a month till the new meds kick in. !! ??? That's the most irresponsible thing I can think of. I hate doctors completely because they are so FUCKING unrealistic. Go to a doc for an ear ache, and the first two things they do are weigh you n tell you that you're far too heavy, and then ask you "do you drink". WTF does that have to do with your earache?? But that's their bullshit procedure.

      @drinkallthesunshine 7 лет назад +2

      Dave Lloyd
Anytime you go to a doctor, they are legally obligated to check your vitals because although you might just be in there for an earache, if they didn't go over your vitals, and something ends up happening to you, they're found incompetent and can be sued for malpractice.
Just look at it this way, you get more bang for your buck...
