Thats the good life on our homesteads with farm raised children their knowledge and focus is so different from other parts of society its so sweet and innocent and it STICKS with them and in their heart no matter their age they will ALWAYS remember about daddy telling them about Jesus and instilling that in their life and hearts. Also I am like the kids you freaked me out too clearing the camera had my dying laughing 😂🤣 My lil boy cracks me up he knows when I am watching you during my shower time he hears the theme song and comes in acting like you by putting his hand on his little chest and says.. “I’m Heather”….and says you watching Mrs. Heather huh mama😂🤣😂….Love this day in the life!! 😊 Take Care, God Bless

    Hi Heather! I just got my two mini lamanchas, mom and baby. I started milking yesterday and mama is lopsided. I can barely get any milk out of one side and the other is not much better. Baby is 3 months old and still eating from mama. I am probably getting less than an ounce. It's extremely frustrating, but I'll keep working towards it. I reached out to a lamancha breeder in my area hoping she would mentor me, but unfortunately she never responded to me. I know you are extremely busy, but if you have any tips, I would love to hear them. Thank you and thank you for all your great, informative content! God bless you and your family!

      @@SageandStoneHomestead I am not sure. I am new to all of this! Everything did seem to go a lot better yesterday when I was milking. She doesn't have much of an udder on the one side, so I feel that that is just the way she may be. I may try taping and see if the udder fills up because I can't tell if baby is draining her. I think a big part of it is me just getting used to milking and her getting used to me. I appreciate you answering!

    Heather, what a great video. Question... how do you balance it all? Homesteading, homemaking, and homeschooling. I am struggling to find a balance, and all of those things are important to me, and I want it to work. I know it won't be the same for everyone but just some great advice would be helpful.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  4 месяца назад +3

      I have touched on this in a q and a recently but I'll get to making a full chat video on it because it's a good question that I get a lot. The short answer is I don't do all the things every day and I get a lot of help from my husband and kids that isn't usually shown (usually because the camera is with me while I do things but they are off doing other things too). I don't make kefir or sourdough bread everyday, I don't harvest or plant every day, and I have a routine. Milking once a day is massively helpful in freeing up time for other things. I don't start school until the afternoon. While the kids are eating lunch I'll read to them and when they are finished we do 2-2.5 hours of formal school, 4 days a week. The rest is pretty informal learning. They read before bed every day and sometimes my husband tutors the kids in math before bed too. I'm not the best housekeeper so there is that, but my husband does baths with the kids and things like dishes and laundry very often. Usually he is the one packaging and putting away the meat harvest. There are daily priorities and non-negotiables, and the other things fit in where they can. I'll elaborate soon! ♥

    Our mini lamancha gives about a quart a day. Is that average? Should she be making more? If so, what should I add to her feed? We do a sweet feed/lactation type of feed and alfalfa pellets 50/50. I just bought whole oats to add in for an extra treat because they are barn kept. We also do free choice hay.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  4 месяца назад +1

      If she is a first freshener that's very good. How many kids did she have? Milking once or twice a day? How long since kidding? A lot of times goats are not showing their full potential until about the 3rd lactation but I'd be so happy with a quart a day from a first fresh mini being milked once a day ♥

    Heather - the yellow flowers in your pastures look to be invasive creeping buttercup. I am noticing it in my pastures in bare spots here. If so, it may be something you want to try to eradicate.
    “Impacts. Creeping buttercup's competitive growth crowds out other plants, especially in wet soils. One plant can spread over a 40 square foot area in a year. Creeping buttercup also depletes potassium in the soil and so can have a detrimental effect on surrounding plants”
    Also “Fresh buttercup plants are toxic to grazing animals, who can suffer from salivation, skin irritation, blisters, abdominal distress, inflammation, and diarrhea. Fortunately, buttercup has a strong, bitter taste so animals generally try to avoid it if more palatable forage is available.”
    Thanks for sharing!!
