Good job Mama! I wish I had the internet when I was raising my kids. I have been researching and trying to feed my kids, husband and myself the best quality on a budget for over 25 years. I'm going to get chickens soon as I am done waiting for my husband to be on board.

I love your grocery hauls. It's amazing what you can prepare from just buying staples. So many younger folks don't know that or have the skills to use the staples to make delicious meals from just a few items. I'm so thankful that I have those skills. Your family is so blessed to have you Joelle. Great video.

@@FromScratchFarmstead did you know that research shows the nutritional value of food goes up and stays longer in food if it is prepared by hand rather than by machines in a factory.
Like the research that shows grass and plants grew up to 30% faster/ better when birds song was sung over it.
Live fences/ brush areas for quail are one of my favorite things to see. So beneficial.

This is true! It’s sad I’m in my 30s and trying to learn I knew some but not much. I was always curious how people did things with out packaged goods and started looking into it about 7 years ago, started with sourdough and trying to grow some veggies. Hope to get into canning but I have been too nervous. I freeze and dehydrate most things I want to store. But need to get to canning!!

A tip for filling spice jars: Put the jar on a large plate as you fill it. Then you do not need to clean when you are done. The mixed spice droppings on the plate can then be used in a soup or chili.

I got rid of my Costco membership a couple of years ago. Best decision I ever made. My grocery bill went down by 20% because I was not filling my cart with all the Costco "deals". I buy about 80% of all my groceries from Azure, including milk and the other 20% from Walmart. I love not having to navigate the Costco parking lot and store with my four kids. Saves me time and money in the long run.

Azure and Costco are my 2 favorite places to shop! I also am a HUGE canner and have ordered and tried the Superb brand lids. They were not good in my pressure canner. I reached out to the company to get some advice and they promptly responded, however, I also did some research online myself, and others seem to have had this problem. So, just be cautious with the Superb lids until you have time to really test them for yourself.

I'm an older now solo person who birthed and raised 6 children when such was not popular. My children range from 23-37 yrs old. I was a SAHM for 15 years. All of my children are doing well independently- 3 now married. Post divorce it cost me A Lot to have a blank resume for 15 years while seeking gainful employment. Super beyond hard! But my now grown children are great employees that get rapidly promoted. I attribute that to the lifestyle and work ethic they were raised with.
Now working again for the past 13 years, my younger coworkers who are my own children's age, definitely don't have that work ethic. I won't go into it other than to say they dont want to work and have an entitlement mentality.
Anyhoo I have been Greatly Awaiting a new post from your channel. It calms and grounds me. And for that I am Most Grateful... in this time of uncontrolled entitlement, victimhood and craziness.
I know it's really Hard, but you are showing people that things are possible.
Living in a Small condo with no ground space or patio space for a container garden, , I talked my HOA into trying a Community Container garden in the very limited space we have.. Our first year was a fail. They'd sprayed for bees prior- so they didn't pollinate our plants. Live and learn!
You and your husband are doing Everything Right in a society that says otherwise. God Bless. Your children will Greatly benefit in ways too numerous to mention.

I buy organic bulk spices from Frontier. I think Azure has some of their stuff. I have an old two-level lazy susan spice rack w/jars that I use to fill with unusual spices that I do not get in jars originally (like cellophane packs) or I custom blend. The ones that come in the tall glass jars from the stores, I reuse those for the same bulk spices so they are already labeled. : )

I only buy chocolate chips from azure (equal exchange brand) when they are on sale. Otherwise the cost for all the chocolate chips is ridiculous. Vitacost is another go to for lots of things, they usually have chocolate chips for way cheaper and have stackable discounts.

I haven’t done a cost comparison but since we use them so infrequently it is worth any added cost for the quality. @FromScratchFarmstead when I was 5 in the 1950s I saw a child ( very old man) born in 1880s from parents who had been slaves. we got to watch a mule attached to a press pole walking round and round in a large circle ( with a straw hat and a dangling piece of dried corn cob hanging before his face). His movement, easy and gentle was the energy that turned the two wood slabs that pressed the sugar cane into an enormous kettle. It must have been 8 feet wide. Shallow like a wok shape but very wide bottomed to give lots of space at the bottom for the juice to heat up. The man stirred it over the open wood fire, with something that looked like a boat oar. It was a long process. I loved meeting that gentle black man and seeing how it had been done in the 1800s. Maybe the smoky taste would be better in molasses/ shorgum from the wood fire.
I also met a farmer in Pennsylvania last year that was making what he called hickory syrup. He took water and soaked hickory bark ( I wondered about cherry bark too) in it closed for a week or so, strained it carefully to purify, then added sugar and cooked it to a thick syrup. It was delicious. I have also had clean fresh pine and spruce needles steeped in water as a hot tea on the west coast.

I'd say Australia is pretty far behind with organic groceries and it can be a real challenge to source. We grow a lot of veg and take a trip to the big smoke every few months to stock up on bulk organic flours, cheese, dry goods etc but I really wish we had options closer to us. It's worth it though, I'm a firm believer that we'd be spending the money on trying to fix our health issues if we weren't spending it on good quality nourishment!

I see you bought peanut butter. I was told I should only buy peanut butter that just contains peanuts and salt but that is a lot more expensive. Most other peanut butters have added oil and sugar. We go through a lot of peanut butter. Your thoughts if it has oil and sugar?

FYI Nestle chocolate chips have a bioengineered ingredient (I’m thinking GMO?) and I think also natural flavors! They didn’t used to add those things. It’s crazy that chocolate would “need” natural flavors.
Walmart great value dark chocolate chips don’t list those things. I bet Azure would have some clean ones too.

I watched so many videos on couponing and how people could walk out with a cart full and pay less than $10 and I was almost on board… but when I looked for healthy fresh produce and meat there are no coupons for them. Maybe I’ll use one if I have some “natural” dish soap or something like that but almost can never use a coupon for real food.

Spices in bulk lose their sense once they're not fresh. Once they're not adding flavour and smell to the food, they are just little dry things you find in your meal 😕. I only bought organic pasta once, I thought, once all the ingredients were added, tomato sauce, meat, anchovies, olives, or whatever, it shouldn't be so different, but it was. Return to pasta all'uovo. Sometimes I try to save, and the world is against me.
