I have a Factory DSi, such a cool and unique system. Mine came with a blank cartridge meant for a ribbon-cable connection, not sure what mine was used for though.
The software was probably stored in the machine itself, then, and that would've had some code to make the console bypass the DSi Menu on startup and launch directly into the software used to run the machine.
Great video. I’d love to be able to see the story of this particular DSi and learn where it’s been, and how it ended up with you. Glad it did end up here. Thanks for the always entertaining (and insightful) content!
Man, it's so cool to see all these handhelds that are part of history. Thanks for making videos on them and for collecting handhelds that I can never buy for myself. Lol
I once modified a TV to be in a "kiosk mode" (turns on immediately when plugged in). I did it by shorting the power button. I use it with my Raspberry Pi.
Ah I remember putting a CRT TV into Kiosk mode once. I did it through the service menu though. Similarly to you I could only turn it on or off if I plugged it in or unplugged it. the Remote control stopped working which means I couldn't get BACK into service mode to deactivate kiosk mode. If I remember correctly it also wouldn't let me adjust the volume any more either. I ended up having to throw it away because between that and that there was a color problem that couldn't be corrected so using it was impractical and an eyesore to look at when gaming. Ended up replacing it with a smaller CRT with horrific overscan that cannot be corrected.
For future reference, any tv new enough should have a secret menu. You might need a $15 factory remote from eBay/Amazon/etc for some tvs, but you might be able to enable a real kiosk mode, including turning on automatically. Just don’t mess with anything without looking up a secret menu guide, some settings might make it so you don’t have a usable image anymore, (can’t see the secret menu) and would need either a jtag cable or a tv repair tech to fix. But kiosk settings are safe, just don’t lose the password lol.
@@melsbacksfriend might be new enough, google is the only way. Got the model number? Sometimes following general guides for brands will get you there. I've had it work on TV's as old as 2006, though I'm sure there were older TV's with secret menus too, probably some crts even.

@@lasscat1 If it had the photos, then the software likely didn't bypass the menu. My guess is that it only happened on some machines or someone figured out how to remove the game card that would probably have been locked in.
Can I recommend the "superglue + rolling paper" method of layering on new material on the inside of devices to improve structural integrity. It is without a doubt superior to "just putting in some glue". In a pinch, baking powder and superglue can be used to build up additional support. Sprinkle in sparingly, add tiny drop of superglue, let dry, repeat until built like a tank.
I will be surprised if you can find a copy of this. But roller skating competitions used to be judged with an app that ran on the Nintendo DS which let them submit their scores.
10:07 I despise these connectors, they break so easily. Recently did a phone repair, and basically the vibration motor doesn't connect anymore, just flops around (the connector that is).
Man, should have packed the voids around the hexagonal hole with baking soda and then added super glue, essential making a white plastic filler that's really strong! Give it a shot some time. Nice video btw
I have done that to iPhones - like an iPhone 4, 4S, and iPod touch 2nd gen - for testing the Game Center achievements and points. It may look identical to the DSi Factory.
Well, if he wanted to repair/hide that damaged nut placement, people from Try’s and Hard Off used to just use baking soda on superglue and a spot of really fine sanding whenever they thought they needed to do some cosmetic repair to something. Or at least they used to some years ago.
Personally I would have just replaced the screens. The mangled shell is part of the story of that development/testing DSi and replacing it with something else makes it lose its charm.
Just wait until Nintendo comes out with the Home Clone Console, so you can make clones at home. Then there will be Home Clone Console clones, for cloners on a budget.
I have a mod idea that I'd like to see. I was playing Street fighter alpha 3 on my GBA when I realized it would be easier if the r and l buttons were x and y instead. Could the l and r buttons be "moved" to x and y position
If they wanted to dispose of these in an unrecoverable form they really should've just drilled a hole through the center of it through the screens and the motherboard. :X We're fortunate!

Any idea what the games were?
