  • In this video, I go over the basic steps for checking for continuity with a multimeter. if you have a multimeter and you want to see if a wire is connected, and you have access to both of the sides, you can check for continuity. This is useful in many different situations, but primarily used in automotive wiring, household wiring, and consumer electronic wiring. It is a common method that is used to solve problems and get to the bottom of what is causing something to occur within a given set of wiring!

My multimeter has both symbols you are talking about: diode and the dot with sound waves; which one would be used for continuity?

Use the dot with sounds waves .))) for continuity if you have that option. If not use the diode one and if I am not mistaken you can also use the ohm selection as well.

My meter showed 001 not000 when I connected the leads together what could this be?

So when the screen reads 1 = no continuity. Any other number = continuity.
