I have just got a short back Bergen. That the wife informed me that I didn't need. I just get what I want and take the ear bashing when it comes. Now I really need a turtle back Bergen lol

Good review. I have one of these dated 1995.
Would be interested in knowing how people pack these when they go out in the field.
    Cheers!!

Known as either the tankies or engineers bergen, not a bad sack really for the £10/15.00 quid they usually set you back.Bet they cost the MOD more to produce.

Could this main compartment be used as a cabin bag on an aeroplane?

      Hello -
I think it'll fall foul of current regulations regarding size, though it does seem like a good idea because the back system has that cover.
Maybe You could get away with it if You took the frame out, but without the frame I've found mine to sit uncomfortably on my shoulders.
I think it may make more sense to take the side-packs and yoke as carry-on, and the main pack can then go into the hold. Those 'travel-wrapping' services at airports (You know, where they wrap Your luggage in something similar to cling-film) can be pretty handy.
      Hope that helps :-)

There is a sale at the local surplus store in the CBD. 60 NZD for a non issued one. I'm very tempted.

    Hi totenvt,
thanks a lot for the video :) I like the reviews of british army gear.
As I just wrote in the comments of the "radio pack"-video, I have some questions about what should be packed on frontside of this other arms rucksack? there are many buckles, were I don't really know what they are for...
Tried to put a sidepouch on the frontside of the rucksack, which is a good solution, because I can put the german BW-folding ground-pad between sidepouch and rucksack (yes I know that the mat fits also really good inside the rucksack :) just tested, what I can do with my stuff...)
when you look on frontside of the otherarms f.e. there are 4 female buckle-items (don't know how to describe in english), 2 up left/right and 2 down l/r, what should be placed there? (are there any directives from the british army?)
and for what do you use the "middle"-buckle with loop down on backside of the sidepouch?

    maybe you can help me?!
    regards
    Steffen

      Hello :-)
I think that the frame may be similar to the one found in the short-back PLCE Infantry pack, but I am not 100% sure.
