That looks awesome Bex, I think the silver frame would bug me a bit but not that it really matters. Keeping spares is great tip, must do that too 👍

A lick of black or olive paint would take care of that, something I may do in the summer. The GS frame can be purchased easily enough, but at a weight penalty....bex

Looks the dogs mate!! The Resi pouch is a definite winner!! I've all the gear apart from a similar frame but I do have an old GS Bergen frame that may work.

I think the GS frame would work a treat, the Molle Recon 2 harness system a must, to finish it off. All the best, have fun with it....bex

    Great video
I had a frame burgen, an old 1 from early 1980's Irish Defence Forces(Irish Army) made by a Belgium company, they made all our Irish camo gear back then
It was great for carrying very heavy loads, the frame spread the weight and balanced everything out nicely
But 2 major drawbacks were the frame took up alot of space, and you couldn't easily compress or roll up the burgen when empty
Also if you had to stash or hide your gear, the frame stuck out like a sore thumb
But for carrying very heavy loads of equipment especially it was unbeatable
When new internal frame burgens arrived everyone wanted 1
And the old style frame quickly disappeared
I remember them being sold off complete with everything in good working order (probably classed today as supergrade) for £20
Had years of life left in them but no 1 wanted them because of the frame
But now adays military enthusiasts love them

There is certainly a huge fan base of the internal frame bergen (S90 plce) but some people forget how much better the exo frame was for weight distribution, made 40 kilos feel like 10 kilos, and carried with comfort for tabbing. I have the RM Arctic bergen and it carries amazingly, I think the exo frame works well for recreational use, repurposed for wild camping or fishing kit etc....all the best bex

i have been adding ladder buckles to my bergen the last few days,
am going to air on the side of caution and add cable ties too.
I decided to go with a plce infantry short back bergen on a GS frame,
making something akin to an alice pack.

GS frame should work a treat. Will look forward to seeing the finish on your FB page. Imo the shortback is the better option, but the AA bergen (turtle) is a my preference as great little all rounder. All the excessive weight on the longback comes from the back system, which I plan to strip back and replace with HD foam (Spine free) for recreational use only....Stay safe....bex

Interesting project. What diameter thread are you using? Watching you I’ve moved to a sewing awl for all my bag and camping repairs. It’s made life a whole lot easier. Thanks for the education.

Great to hear you are using awls, I also have a collapsible awl in my bug out bag for off site repairs.....bex

I've had an old Snugpack Rocket Pak for years. I love it, but was always a bit disappointed that I didn't get along with it when I was using it. It was always a bit low and dragged back from the top of the shoulders.
I always felt that it would benefit from having an external frame, not least because that meant I would be able to fit load lifters to it.
I wonder, would anybody be able to point me in the right direction regarding a suitably sized frame to fit the Rocket Pak?
For some reason I feel like a project is on the cards.

Fancy a project then. I frame can me made from PVC plumbing pipes, and can be made to the desired sizing, and a mix of T pipe connectors and L connectors will make for a truly bespoke frame. Glued up & a lick of paint and fit the harness system. Had my fame not been to suit, this is the road I would have gone down....

Bex, are you using cotton or polyester waxed thread? I just got JayJays to do the shoulder straps and back pad on my DPM short back, however I’m going to have a go at the pouches myself as I have a couple of plce water bottle pouches and a spare rocket pocket which I’m thinking of using as a basha stash. 👍🏻

I personally prefer a poly thread for these modifications, poly thread wont degrade with adverse weather and is hard wearing. look thru the modification play list to see basha stash options, and water bottle pouches (hip options)

The sewing awl and thread can be sourced on line, and the pack-frame pouches and bergens were found from carboot sales or similar...
