Cheers for sharing mate. May I ask why you don't just carry the yoke to turn your rocket pouches into a day pack? Just to clarify they way you store your roll mat do you need to empty your bergen to take it out and or put it away? I use a ponch liner to add to my warmth of my dos bag. For cooking kit I would recommend gas and stove in your Bergen and hexi in your webbing always keep 1 mess tin in your Bergen and 1 mess tin in your webbing along with 24 hours of rations in your webbing and Bergen. Nicks kit also sells a 120 litre Bergen for £60
This bag prolly out of date by now but just thought I'd throw a few. Good setup. 1- Crush that tape roll flat 2- Roll those clothes up as a unit. Check out Skivvy Roll for the rest. 3- Shemagh. Small items like torch? Fire starters? Batteries? Maps? Good gloves?
Now I know who's been crushing all our tape rolls. Ya, put the clothes on the carpet, get down in the push-up position, and roll it half-inch by half-inch like you're trying to sneak it on a Space Mission. Pretend you have to cram it in your [Naughty Word] after you roll it. This pays off big-time when you're trying to pack everything for a deployment in 2 Duffel Bags. Every square inch of space matters.

Put your gortex and warm kit in your daysack, with spare ammo and food. If u ditch your Bergan how will you have time to pack it our daysack. Spare clothes and socks and wash kit in the side pouches, forget the compression sack for the dos bag, takes too long and leaves air pockets in your Bergan. It wants to go in a bivi bag and stuffing into the bottom of your Bergan so no gaps and easy to admin getting in and out of it. Replace the bright yellow canoe bag, looks hat
U would never put ur feet in a bag and then put ur boots on it might stop the boots making ur feet wet but now ur sweat is going to make ur feet wet because u have just wrapped them in a insulating layer and can't breathe that's why u take plenty of socks on exercise and change them regularly
I love your videos, I have just recently acquired my air cadet uniform even though it looks like you are army cadet. I will definitely be using this layout during squadron camp. Thank you !!
A well thought out video. However different cadet organisations have slight variations on what kit is to be carried. More kit - more weight! I would use a small Web Tex ditty bag for the wash kit rather than the one seen in the video. Really would you wear a plastic bag on your feet to form a barrier between your socks and wet boots? Your feet would be soaked within the first hour of activity! Better to put your wet boots and socks on, use loads of talcum powder and keep a dry pair of socks for night time. Wet and dry routine - not pleasant but effective!
Pretty good I guess. The only think that I would say is that you do seem to have a lot of kit there. I'm a corporal up in Scotland ( where the weather isn't always the best ;) ) and I've been on exercise plenty of times, each time learning more about what I do and what I don't need. My bergen isn't the biggest and I've not bothered with any rocket pouches. I've got my basha, tent pegs, bungees, sleeping bag, roll mat and a spare pair of boxers and socks all packed neatly inside with a little room to spare, which is handy if you need to stuff it in and bug out. My dad was the same, he spent 24 years in the army and he didn't carry much either. I'd just lighten the load a little if I were you mate.
Mr. Hunter ! If you would please could you point me on the right way..... I'm looking for an exact copy of your infantry bergen same pockets and webbing same everything... but in OD GREEN, not DPM. I don't want to end up with a Chinese knock off so I figured I would ask for help from a fellow trooper.
The rucksack in this vid is a "Pattern 1995 Rucksack Infantry". You want a "Pattern 1990 Rucksack Infantry". Pattern '95 kit is almost identical to the last variants of the '90 kit but in DPM.
Does anyone here know if the British military allows soldiers to wear their own privately bought Multicam Crye Precision G3 combat trousers (the ones with in-built knee-pads) as I love my set and am currently training for the royal marines. They are a step above any military issued clothing I have ever worn and would love to be able to use them in the field instead of traditional knee pads that always slip off and end up by your ankles.
No, in phase one.. especially for the marines issued kit is all you are permitted in the field or on base, the idea is uniformity... Not sure about army regulations when it comes to wearing your own kit but definitely during Royal Marines phase 1, you'll learn the hard way if you are caught with civvy rig, in action in the video you can see he uses canoe bags to waterproof kit, fantastic little things and they help to compress everything, BUT you'll only really be allowed to use these during phase 2 as the idea is to see if you can survive and soldier on using issued kit, after you've proved that then maybe you can start to bring a few of your own niceties. Good luck with the application mate definitely a wise choice
Hi pal. you might want to get some neoprene or seal skin socks as putting your feet in bags inside your boots will cause your feet to sweat even more than usual... Neoprene will help your feet breath and is water proof .
I have this bergen minus the rocket pouches - I prefer to use webbing underneath. Out of interest, what is the straps for in between each rocket pouch and the fixed middle pouch? It runs pretty much from the bottom all the way to the top. I can think of any use for them. Cheers for the video.
It is a 100L bergen without the rocket pouches, and 120L bergen with the rocket pouches. Depends if you buy it new or used and what condition it is in. Generally £60 (if your lucky) and up.
Please don't put plastic bags in your boots. They'll only make your feet sweat and the moisture will have nowhere to go. Better have a few spare pairs of socks and change as needed.

That's a BIG wash kit! Is this the level of kit that cadets are expected to carry, these days? You know it all changes when you join the full-on military - you'll need a good amount of space spare for ammunition/stores. Don't knock the yellow bags: if you had to travel along country roads, draping the thing empty on the back of your rucksack is a requirement for the "tail end Charlies". You won't believe how often idiot drivers collide with troops on the move - camouflage works against you. Also useful instead of marker panels for heli marshalling, etc - the issue marker panels don't serve any other useful purpose, unlike a dry bag.
The army cadets is the best, but that's opinion, if you're looking for lots of weekends away, more interaction in the field and generally more activities with more people I would suggest the Army Cadet Force
