Mo matter what I do I always go back to the British Rucksack (Bergen).. Its so super practical and tough, I've yet to find anything to replace it. Recently tried with an expensive Finnish rucksack but nope. Went back to the British Rucksack..
Looks like an improved large ALICE ruck. Andrew from "Ranger Survival and Fieldcraft" has a (custom?) pack he calls a "Malice" pack that looks almost identical.
I want to love this (I have one) but just find it a bit too compact for cold and temperate UK. Perhaps that's because it is a jungle bag and sleeping system would be smaller in the jungle. Planning to take my Snigel to Estonia.
It is a good idea to add to it something like Karrimor SF Predator MOLLE side panels, so whenever you're not using either the PLCE pouches nor the mesh pouches you could stick some small MOLLE pouches onto the sides to further organize gear without making the lid heavier.
Hi Tom. Just got the beast and retro fitted with a molle 11 waistband belt. I’m out on the South Downs for a few nights in the next couple of weeks so will let you know how it feels with the belt on. Keep up the good work Airborne
Yep it has the us marine Corp filbe pack frame. And the new molle us army ruck frame. If u have a pack that holds up to 125 liters or so u would be dead without a waist belt if u filled that bag. That weight would fatigue your shoulders, back and spine sooooo much wothout using a waist belt. And most definitely u want a sternum strap. I can't live with them. But that point is only my preference. Waist belt!! Order an USMC filbe waist belt it'll elevate that pack into a great carry of a ruck. I just can't imagine all that weight of 125 liters all on my shoulders. Wow...but it looks like a great pack I hope u enjoy it!!! I own 28 packs and I backpack almost every weekend and camp. But if I had to bug out and I cud only take one pack it wud be a toss up between my kifaru pack and a military pack. I would not take civilian cuz like osprey which I own but I would take a real durable pack with tough hardware. My regular civilian backpacker backpacks like osprey or greogry or arctyrex etc I wud not take. Too east for failure and broken parts not to mention heavy load capacity just because it can carry the load doesn't mean it'll be comfortable at a heavy weight. Give me tactical so I know I can count on the longevity of it. My osprey or mountain hardwear etc the buckles etc could easily break.
really great review. I have the civvie version of the PLCE Bergen from Snugpack, I like it but as I am quite short, it is slightly to long for me and I find a lot of packs have a waist belt that is just too big and flails in the wind without good management.
