    As an American trained on Alice gear about 20 years ago, I realize we were so behind on gear like this. I always thought British stuff and old Rhodesian stuff was so cool and well thought out. With Alice gear, it’s like we’re thinking how we could best hurt our backs and shred up our hips and spine….
    Thanks for sharing, very cool

    Certainly looks the quality, bombproof, and featured, that a seriously good fighting order belt kit needs to be. Nice one. The Brits certainly have taken this system to another level, and the layout shown is becoming the standard way to do it.
    It's a fighting order system, and set up, packing, and sorting, forms the complete system. The test is wearing and using in the field for several 10 milers and a few weeks, and then it just all becomes a way of life. Everything you need for the day; your large pack for the night.
    Fighting fit is when you forget you are wearing it.

    I used a british belt kit over in the states when I was in the army (infantry) and loved it
    I was in a brad unit and still used the belt kit, just over top of my PC instead of under it. I threw a rocket pouch on the back for radio (ASIP) and a bit of extra bits, and just took the whole kit off when riding in the back. All of the other guys had a pack as well, and we all just kept it on our laps. Some guys had battle belts and did the same thing
    Even when I was a crew member I still used it, it fits nicely in the rack behind or under the seats and I just wore it over a slick PC

    I do wish more manufacturers would include a snow lock on utility pouches and buttpacks. Really helps prevent debris/snow from getting into the pouches, in addition to helping secure smaller items better.
    Magazine pouch lids should also have a full lid, instead of just the flap.

    A quick thought on the buckle. Back before the last ice age I used to use a ‘bergbuckle’ which was a very gucci buckle fitted by Berghaus to their Cyclops Roc rucksacks. It’s a bit difficult to describe how the buckle works - although even an infanteer could use it - but its big advantage was that you could tighten or loosen it with one hand on the go. It’s ideal for dealing with layering (or Christmas!)…
    I was also pleasantly surprised to see that according to their sizing chart I’m a ‘medium’ again! Perhaps my old stable belt might fit once more…

    • @PreparedPathfinder
      @PreparedPathfinder  13 дней назад +4

      Roger, I had a Bergbuckle on my gear many years ago too. The current Virtus kit has something similar. The Cobra buckles are much more secure.

    You pack your kit nearly bang on to how I was taught in 2000s only we had two mag pouches on the right instead of a cmdr pouch and the bayonet scabbard was cut into the utility pouch on the left waterbottle pouch with a bungee around the back of the webbing to hold it tight.

    Brittac makes great kit. I have the same in MC. I personally prefer the four pouch layout to Crossfires three. Only bug for me is I if they made the small a smidge bigger so I can get a 58 cup in. After a bit of use I found I can squeeze it in but it’s a pain to get out.
    Also the Virtus Bergen pouches work well with the Crossfire DG3 and 16. As they share that odd pals layout.

      They make them in 2 rows too, which is what I use for my bushcaft belt kit.. I like the 3 row belt for a belt kit set up. The four row belt would give a bit more stability but I reckon it might feel a bit bulky.

I also have them set up with no velcro closures, just clip buckles, so I'm more Ninja silent in the woods. These belt kits are also useful on dirt bike recon. Yeah, I'm a gearhead. Semper Fi.
