You're so right about this. My favorite will always be his Muppet Show performance of it because I grew up with that one, but it's been so cool to hear all his other recordings.
falsetto, one of the best at it. He always changed his voice. Love ''you make me feel like dancing'' as he picks up and sounds like a young Micheal Jackson. He is so skilled.
The main thing I love about this YT channel is discovering performances I never saw. I honestly didn't know Leo Sayer wrote and performed this before Three Dog Night's version. I still love their take on the song, but Leo hit this out of the park- great voice, great theater.
There are a few different versions of this song , and he puts his heart and soul into each one, incredible!! First saw 5his as a little kid, and I really thought i would never see it again. It was way better than I remember. Thank you Leo!!
I owned and loved the Three Dog Night version back then and it's still my favorite version. They changed the last line to "I must let the show go on". Leo hated that. Lol.
Silverbird (1973) and Just a Boy (1974) are two of my fave albums of all time. Sensational singer/songwriter styled albums (Sayer and Producer/Pianist David Courtney)
Wow! That is amazing! One: I did not know it was a Leo Sayer song! Two: His version is now my favorite version! This performance and staging must have been mind blowing back then. I really regret that it was broadcast on one of the nights that the little kid version of me failed to stay up past their bedtime! I imagine it would have had a big impact on me.
@ Shortly after posting this I searched out all live performances of this song and was reacquainted with his appearance on the muppets! I must have seen it (likely more than once) over the years and although it doesn’t have the same emotional impact as this midnight Special performance, it’s still great!
Who wasn’t back then. Doesn’t change the fact he was one of the many influential’s voices of the time. Bro practically predicted how society is today in his own cynical way
No one can say the man can't sing, love that raspy voice
Is anybody saying that?
I love George Carlin and Leo Sayer. Does anyone not recognize George? My hero!!!
I'm so honoured by this, and I do remember it so well, 'cos I really loved George as well....
@gerardsayer9631 omg hello Mr Sayer!!!! You are a gem sir!!!
I keep looking up videos of this song and it’s never the same twice. The man finds a new hook each time.
Honestly it’s wild

So underrated performer..
This is the same dude who did, long tall glasses, when I need you, you make me feel like dancing.
There are a few different versions of this song , and he puts his heart and soul into each one, incredible!! First saw 5his as a little kid, and I really thought i would never see it again. It was way better than I remember. Thank you Leo!!
Wow, never seen this before, just loved the puppet
Theatricality at its finest! Sayer was quite honestly a pioneer.
I owned and loved the Three Dog Night version back then and it's still my favorite version. They changed the last line to "I must let the show go on". Leo hated that. Lol.
Leo now an Aussie citizen . ❤
Give this guy a star!
Wow! so versatile ...! considering his voice in "you make me feel like dancing" ... love him!

Leo Sayer is always fun to watch. Great voice. I almost thought this is the song by queen. Lol.
Saw him live in 1974. Great voice.
You are a lucky human being💚
Love this song and Leo does it so well. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant. Can't stop watching. Been so there. 😅
Great singing
Love Leo’s puppet and Leo!❤
A lovely lady in the U.K. made the puppet for me.... Wish I still had it!
He was legend. and he could have been the Joker in the Batman films. such a great song writer and singer.
I love this version of the song.
I saw the title of the video with the thumbnail and thought "so the original isn't by Queen?" 😅
But I started listening to this and I loved it.
Dayum. Did not see this coming

You can be a child once more by listening his version with The Muppets show.

Three Dog Night had a big hit with this song. Leo alsk wrote One Man Band for Roger Daltrey.
Sometimes in life things happen like this song Coming up!!!
How fitting.
Time for the show to STOP
I had no idea he wrote that. I didn't even know he wrote the songs he had hits with
Lo asocio a Genesis, pero esa voz y gran actuación.....Redondo es la presentacion. Saludos desde Argentina.
I can't believe that this is the same man who sang When I Need You
This is the second clip with Leo singing the same song. The versions are distinct. I wonder what the story is behind these two performances.
He wears the clown costume in both performances. The first time, he was introduced by Dr. Hook. This time, it's George Carlin.
The other performance is in the 50th episode of Midnight Special. Mr. Sugarman isolated that one too, so it's easy to find if you search for it.
I watched this very long ago
Hard to believe that it was 50 years ago . How the hell did I get so old so fast .
@backlash660 IKR This episode from May 1974 was 2 months before my 13th birthday. Now I'm 63 😮
A different side of Leo Sayer. He should have been more popular. He took this 3 dog night song to another level.
Did you not listen to Carlin’s intro? This isn’t 3 Dog Night’s song, it’s his. He wrote it and did the original. 3 Dog Night did HIS song
Leo was a star in the 70's. Now he's just an Australian citizen
💚💙💜
Like a lighter Peter Gabriel. 🐩
Leo Sayer was one of those musicians who required an immediate station change while driving my Olds Cutlass in the mid 70's
✨🖤💋🖤✨
His hands look like they’re conducting an epileptic orchestra.
George carlin is geeked here😂😂😂
1:29 Grandpa Munster🤡
Puddles daddy knew how to sing too.
Back when drugs were good and safe😁
Thomas Ligotti's "The Clown Puppet"
Wow, George Carlin was an amateur linguist. He was pointing out an ambiguity in a common phrase.
George is definitely on coke.
Who wasn’t back then. Doesn’t change the fact he was one of the many influential’s voices of the time. Bro practically predicted how society is today in his own cynical way
@@MisterrManic But I didn't say he wasn't correct, did I? Dudes on coke always be jumping to conclusions.😉
Disco couldn't come quick enough after hearing and seeing this...
As we said in 1976....DISCO SUCKS.
Still dead and buried. RONCO will never bring it back to life.
Not a fan of this version. The clown thing is just weird.
Three Dogs Night are better.
Hardly. And Leo is singing live as he always does x
The Three Dog Night version is way better mainly because those guys could sing
Bless.
Absolutely my all-time favorite Chuck Negron vocal. Love it!
