    Very detailed and I think it's the most information (Detail shots) presented by all the wedding photography videos that I've viewed - using this as a reference for future weddings! Wait - I have one to do next week in NYC. Let me start the car.

    Those styling mats are life changing! I've never considered something like that.
    For the ring shot, consider looking into dental wax and dental floss! The wax will help stand up the rings so they don't fall. The floss can make some nice "floating rings" shots.
    Love these videos and subscribed!

    • @JosiahBlizzard

      Good idea on the dental floss/wax. We’ll look into that. We just switched to these mats from styling boards. They were great but were bulky and took up a lot of space plus heavy when you’re carrying a ton of stuff into a bridal suite. The mats are so much better!

    Definitely easier when the shoes are new, I've had to shoot some pretty 'lived in' shoes sometimes and it's tough to make them look good.

    Finally on camera Steph :). Love the video. For the styling mat, does it gets wrinkled? Also what kind of ribbon is that? I have one but it is so stiff and how long is it? Sorry for all the questions

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Jade! The styling mat doesn't wrinkle. It's a thick suede material. There's the option for linen materials as well that has a bit of a different texture. I just linked ribbon in the description as well as the other materials. The ribbon rolls are actually really long. We haven't unrolled them completely, but each roll is easily taller than me and I'm 6ft.

    Hello thank you for this video. Do you ever use a flash when taking detail shots in low light or do use just increase iso.
    If you increase iso, do you have trouble with noise??

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  2 года назад +1

      We hardly ever use flash when shooting details. We just find the best light possible. Normally anywhere we are shooting there is some kind of window light available even it means bring everything out of the main room and into a hallway or out onto a porch or something. For flash, I’d recommend bouncing flash into a reflector of some sort and filling the space with light.

    Thank you! I'm freaking out cause i'm doing my first one saturday. What aperture do you shoot on since some things are higher than others and so that everything is in focus? Camera lens? etc. This is one thing i can't find anywhere or get anyone to answer! Thank you!!!

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  Год назад

      Everything in focus would be to make your aperture higher. Sunny 16 in a phrase for film photographer to help expose the image. F/16 will have everything in focus but so will f/5.6 too depending on the size of the group. I shoot at 2.8 for most of the day. When I stack multiple people in a shot then I bring my aperture to 4-5.6. If I want lots of depth then I drop to f/11

    • @pamjohnston3219
      @pamjohnston3219 Год назад

      @@JosiahBlizzard Thank you! Specifically, I was talking about the "how to Style" which was I believe your wife showing how to do flatlays (details). I was wondering what she was shooting on. There are such varying heights with shoes and items way below it. What are her settings to have all items on the flatlay in focus??

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  Год назад

      @@pamjohnston3219 ah gotcha! Sorry! Misunderstood! So if you shot at f/4 then everything should be in focus. For rings shots with a macro, not a bad idea to stop down to f/8 to get the entire ring in focus.

  • @kristinbentonphotog
    @kristinbentonphotog 3 года назад

    what if you don't have a 100mm for up close ring shots? also, what if you can't get the rings to stand up by themselves?

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  3 года назад

      I’d say not to stress it. You can find alternative macros that are cheaper but can’t get as close. If you can get rings to stand up on their own then no worries either. Sometimes we can’t get them to stand up and we end up not taking that photo and only use the shots from the rings in a ring box or something

      Not a dumb question at all! We have a little tote bag that has some organizers inside for ring boxes, ribbon, stamps, etc. The styling mats we have now come in small tube and can be rolled up so we're only bringing in two additional items, one of which fits in my gear bag.

    • @JosiahBlizzard
      @JosiahBlizzard  4 года назад +2

      I mean ultimately it doesn’t matter because when we edit it doesn’t accurate represent the exposure in camera. We keep our ISO as low as we can while keep our aperture as wide open as we can (f/2.8) and then shutter speed is probably somewhere between 1/100-1/250.
