I would use the last prompt with caution, as someone who has a genuine paranoia fear of losing their partner due to past loss, this prompt would probably ruin the entire mood for me. Otherwise, great ideas!! Love the videos :)
Totally depends on the couple for sure. You can always rephrase it to avoid the entire “we don’t always get to say goodbye” part - and rephrase to “we don’t often tell someone what they actually mean to us” - it just doesn’t hit as hard. But you’re totally right. It’s not a prompt for every couple and phrasing it and prefacing the prompt is something I do every time.
I’m an amateur photographer and I watch RUclips to get ideas and you are really really good. Great photo shoot. My wife and I both got a little teary eyed 🥲 Thank you for sharing
The last prompt was something special!! Also why do clients do the cutest poses when your not loooking lol! her head on his chest and his head resting on hers.
I just recently started my photography business after years of shooting as a hobby and I've been using your posing prompts. They not only help my couples feel comfortable, but help ME feel comfortable! THANK YOU for this incredible, informative content. That last prompt had me cryin' like a baby. I'm definitely going to be keeping that one in my back pocket, along with the rest of your prompts! You're the man, Josiah! I wish you could photograph me and my fiancee's wedding next year! :)
Thanks for such an awesome comment! So happy to hear that my content has been helpful in your journey as a photographer!! This was so great to read this morning. Congrats as well on your engagement!
Doing an engagement shot for my friend, not a pro by any means, I just have a pro camera and love taking pictures. This is by faaaaaarrrrr the best posing video I have ever seen on RUclips. So easy to follow and repeat. Nice work man. Following on FB and insta am a fan ❤
I had been looking for another photographer that might have a specific editing style that I am looki g for and these photos nailed what I was looking for. Excelent work.
Thank you so much! I enjoyed your video soooo much! Such a high quality! I love that you feature the shutter speed, ISO, and aperture and getting to see the BTS of how your direct couples. Super informative.
One of your videos popped up in my suggestions so I watched it and I'm glad I did! You're now one of very few channels that I have the bell icon clicked for! Amazing stuff!
I really liked these, gives me new material to use. The last one leaves me with a question: when do you know if that's a safe prompt for your couple or not. I don't want to offend anyone or cross a line.
Great question! It's going to come down to how comfortable your couple has been on camera. For me, this is a prompt that would come out towards the end of the session. If I'm shooting for 90 minutes, this would come out at the 70-80 minute mark. They need to check two boxes for me. The first is to be 100% on board with every prompt you've thrown their way. The second is they should have a visible emotional connection and continue to make each other laugh, smile, or connect with one another through your prompts and that might even extend beyond the prompts. Essentially, there shouldn't be a struggle or stiffness that exists during prompts or poses. Those are the only two things I'm looking for. It also might depend on overall mood, attitudes, and personalities of the couple. If you find the couple can't be serious ever then I'd avoid this one. Hope that helps!
I really enjoy your videos. They are very helpful. You are very talented, will definitely be using your tips and prompts. Spreading the love and joy of photography through sharing and education 🙏🏼
7:13 am and that last prompt got to me personally 😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔 I loss my husband 4 years ago suddenly and never got the chance to say goodbye 💔 great photoshoot though. Everyone did a great job
I am so sorry for your loss! Prompts like these really help connect the couples and share their heart with one another. Always a goal for them to leave the session more connected than when we started.
Thank you Josiah, great prompts! the last one had me in tears. those photos turned out beautiful, you really nailed the greens and Yellows in editing! :-)
My friend died unexpectedly this past week very young and yet I'm also happily engaged. If I had tried to get our engagement photos done during this time and got hit with that last prompt.... I'd have not been able to think of anything happy and because I have depression I would have been a possible danger to myself afterwards. You can never truly know all the ins and outs of your photo clients. Maybe nix that last one and air on the side of caution. You can get natural responses without weird emotional manipulation which, you may not even know, could traumatize a person. Unless you also have a degree in psychology or are an actual marriage counselor, maybe stay in your lane.
So sorry for your loss! It’s true; it may not be the best prompt or the best way to phrase the prompt. It needs to be done with the right couple. I don’t love the phrase “stay in your lane” though. My lane, as I see it, is to bring people closer together which I’ve seen this prompt do multiple times. I don’t have to be a psychologist or marriage counselor to use a prompt like this to bring people closer together, but I do understand where you’re coming from. I’ve also had a couple or two say they don’t want to do this prompt and we’ve pivoted out and kept rolling with some very traditional prompts and everything was fine. It’s all about delivery, how you set up the prompt, the phrasing, and how well you know the couple. It’s worked for me in the past, but if it’s not one you want to use, then that’s okay.
@@JosiahBlizzard @Josiah Blizzard (*same girl, different RUclips account). Your lane was in regards to bringing up death and saying you're basically a marriage counselor in the beginning of your video. I have worked with quite a few photography studios, each with their own unique way of influencing clients to get the shots they want. I'm here to tell ya this practice is antiquated and misleading. True connection happens authentically. If it's forced it FEELS forced. Stay in your lane could also be interpreted to mean "get real dude". Would you treat people like this out on the street? Then don't do it as usual business practice in your job. If you've had clients tell you they weren't comfortable with that prompt, and you see these comments also expressing similar concerns about the prompt... Maybe best practice is to avoid it all together. You're in the business of illusion. When I worked in marketing, I too was all about creating the illusion of connection and overly focused on 'influencing' people. Now I'm in the business of being honest. But at least you're being honest that you're emotionally manipulating your clients. I guess there's that. So you do you boo.
@@showorker I appreciate your comments. I really do. Comments like these give me lots to think about. I have mentioned that this prompt isn’t for every couple. There is probably a better way to phrase this prompt and it’s something I’m going to work out. But I have seen this prompt bring people closer together. So as for staying in my lane, I don’t believe there is one singular lane. I am “getting real” with them. I don’t believe my job is to just photograph people in poses. I believe that photography can bring people closer together and if I’m able to do that, then I’m going to. Yes, I mentioned marriage counseling… it was a joke of sorts, but also partially true because I want to give couples the opportunity to express themselves and share in emotion and I’m just giving them a space to do that. Maybe I am manipulating a scenario to get them to give me that emotion, but to the couples who have agreed to do this prompt and experience real emotion with one another, I don’t think they feel manipulated, and if they do, they definitely haven’t expressed that to me. They’ve replied to the prompt in the way I expect them to: with an open heart to connect with the person they love and share what someone really means to them. It’s an uncomfortable question. It’s a hard question. But sometimes we have to get uncomfortable and vulnerable to share our heart.
Few ways: Use a lower aperture (f/2.5-f/4). Increase your shutter speed to avoid motion blur. Invest in mirrorless cameras with better ai autofocus detection. Invest in better, sharper lenses.

How do you keep the subject in focus at f2.2 while the subject moving? Do you use face detect or what?
Yeah using continuous eye and face autofocus

“Make it really sexy. Yeah.” 🤣 we all sound like the biggest creeps at couples sessions lol

Dude I watched quite a few prompts videos but this one is really good. Thank you. Subbed.
Awesome, thank you!
Great prompts, JB! I still use one from an older video where the couples run behind each other for tickles. I'll add these to the holster as well!
Tickles work every time. Definitely a winner!
