3DSen Experiment 1-A: Super Mario Bros. 2 (U) 3-D - Stage 1-1 (Luigi)

  • This is a game that needs no introduction. The much-hyped sequel to the original granddaddy of the 3rd Generation, Super Mario Bros.
    A while back, fellow 3DSen Community profile maker, Ness_and_Sonic set about to create a custom profile for this game. One of the first in the very beginning, in fact. About the same time I was working on Kid Icarus and Kabuki Quantum Fighter. While much progress was made on the SMB2 profile, it was never officially finished and remains in the repository to this day.
    It's now 2025, and within the span of about 2 to 3 days, I made my own attempt at the profile and this is what I came up with.
    I had to make some work-around with the main platforms; namely taking a cue from the first game and building the top parts into overhanging platforms while also making use of the overlap script just for effect that objects will likely pass through it. I coupled that with the multi-depth platforming scripts, albeit sparingly for certain parts here and there. I'd originally hoped to use this effect the same way Super Mario Bros. 3 utilized it but plans change.
    Of course I've made use of my extreme depth style in tandem with alpha transparencies and cloning. A carry-over from the Rockman (J) 3D profile I co-created with CR00T_R0M.
    The end result is fairly decent. A little flawed here and there (especially in World 5-3 where horizontal logs are propped up on vertical logs. I may end up completely removing the multi depth effects later on.) But overall it still works.
    I start out with this test run through Stage 1-1, using Luigi.
    Cheat codes used. Again, not intended as a serious walk-through, just as a 3D demo.
