I haven't used the DAC one yet. I did however turn a DSA canvas to a PG a couple weeks back using the dots stick. I applied 3 coats and it's super sticky and works perfectly. I love how it dries super fast. I'll try to upload a picture in the group.
I love what you did here! I have removed lots of DSA from DA canvases. I find it comes off far easier if you take up the DSA with the release paper. How do I say it clearly...peel up the glue and the cover paper in one piece. Do not let the DSA touch itself until it is far removed from the canvas!! When it sticks to itself next to or on the canvas it becomes far more difficult to lift/peel off and tears/breaks more easily. I don't use any heat or freezing when I peel off the DSA. It's messy, it requires patience and a large flat surface, and for me it causes some minor discomfort the more I have to repeatedly pull my fingers off the DSA. But I have yet to find a true pressure sensitive adhesive such as is used in the DA industry. I wish DAC would sell gallon jugs of their adhesive. Also, in my experience I rarely get all the stickiness off the entire canvas - there always seems to be some light residual tackiness even after all the DSA is removed. But none of my canvases have stuck together; my stored canvases are stacked flat.
I used the DAC adhesive on my phone case and did a little design with spare drills. It was just after watching this video. It's held up way past my expectations.
I had issues with the double-sided adhesive on one of the first images I ever purchased to diamond paint. I LOVED the image so much that I was willing to try anything. Since this was back in 2020, and there weren't as many resources for glue, I ended up doing a ton of research and purchased a jug of Pressure Sensitive Adhesive. I needed more than just a small bottle because it was a 70x70 image. I pulled the tape off in the same way you did but didn't realize I could end up stretching the canvas, so I messed up a section, but it ended up not being very noticeable. It's still holding up well. Anyway, I'm so glad to see there are more options now and that this ended up working out for you
what brand and product name of pressure sensitive adhesive did you buy, please? I have removed dsa from many canvases, but have yet to fi d the correct type of poured glue. I used Aileen's tack it over and over a very long time ago for mounting rubber stamp dies to acrylic stamp blocks and the stuff gets NASTY after some years: turns amber! So I will not use it on my DP canvases - no way!! I hope you miggt see this and will rey. Thanks!
@cookielupappas940 I'm sorry, but I don't recall the exact name, and I can't seem to find it anywhere. It was a professional grade adhesive. The kind you find at a hardware store. It was a peachy/cream color in a 1 qt bucket and had glitter flecks in it. I also remember specifically searching for one that was "releasable." I hope that helps!
Thank you for this experiment. I’ve wondered about doing this and what the outcome would be. I think that if the DP is going to be framed in a regular picture frame with glass, the drills probably would not move. It will be interesting to see if any of the drills would pop off. I agree that sealing the DP would be necessary. Since it’s been a few years since I stopped diamond painting, I’m a bit concerned to see which canvases, if any, have been altered after being packed away for that long. I’m hoping that my DAC canvases are in the same condition as when I got them. 🤞 The other brands of canvases, who knows. I know I have some smaller DPs with double-sided tape so I might try converting one of those to poured glue. 🤷♀️ 🤟
I really appreciate how thoroughly you approached this project in a scientific manner and evaluated the worth of each glue on multiple criteria. Thank you, Daphne. ❤ I don’t know if I ever will have the gumption to try to re-glue an entire canvas, but this is still helpful information in case I have a canvas with an area of little to no stick or something similar. I do know that A Homespun Hobby does her own poured glue on her canvases and I think she has a couple of videos out there showing her process. I have not looked into whether she recommends or uses something else or how many coats she uses to complete a painting, though. ❤
I would never bother to do this, but I SO APPRECIATE you doing this video and trying it out because it's given me the confidence that the dsa kits that I have done won't fall apart. I did a 180 x 90 for my son and have had nightmares that the whole thing would just slide right off the backing! LOL
I used to represent a candle company and if you want to remove wax from a spill you would use the blow dryer to liquify the glue. You might try a section like that before the freezing. Might not but might be much easier
I have one i would like to transform as well but the tape is a papery sticky mess. Yours is actually much nicer because it is plastic only. Next time use blue painters tape to put around the canvas, it removes without residue but holds the canvas in place.
I think someone said it was possible to put the poured glue over the DSA? Though it would depend on what shape your DSA, I suppose. Another project for another day! Thanks for watching!!
Here's a thought. What if you just added the poured glue on top of the dsa? Would that be close enough for what you're trying to achieve? (I couldn't tell if you're going for more stick or just the feel of doing it)
I didn’t think of that, but someone else commented that you absolutely can. I was just trying it to see if it worked as a fun experiment. Thanks for watching!!
You certainly can do this! But it won't resolve any problems you may have had with wrinkles and rivers in the canvas. Once you get the DSA off a canvas it can relax and is far easier to flatten, then when you reapply your own adhesive, whatever it may be, you are rid of rivers. Edit: I'm going to reword. One *could* be rid of canvas issues if one is able to reapply the chosen adhesive properly, and smooth the canvas before reapplication.
I think I'd personally just deal with the DSA... This is a lot of effort (and time and money), for not much return. But thank you for showing us that it can be done!
It was pricey for me because I was testing out different glues. If I did it again, I wouldn't need to do that. Hopefully my testing can save someone else that expense! Thanks for watching!!
@@momof226 That’s a good question. If it removes the adhesive on the top of the DSA and then you applied the poured glue on top, it might work. Thanks for watching!!
@@DiamondPaintingAnonymousI would be afraid to use it. It's a solvent and has potential to lift the ink from the canvas as well. Perhaps you could test your idea and share!
You can! It works perfectly well - I do 2 coats on top of the tape and it creates a lovely, springy feel and you can still shift the drills around like a normal poured glue canvas! Highly recommend.
I'm only on my second canvas so I'm completely naive to some of these more advanced canvas options. Why do people rather not work with double sided adhesive?
DSA is slightly harder to work with because it can have more issues like air bubbles and such, and it's not as forgiving as poured glue if you need to move a drill after it's been placed. Thanks for watching!!
Hi my love... Sorry for my English.. Because it is not my first language... I did the dac glue... If you want it to work... Leave it at least over night..and leave it uncovered for that night... Then you can put cover sheets
I love double-sided adhesive kits but I get it. But in all fairness to double-sided kits this one is not 😮😢great I have bought the same tape(double-sided) for rivers I take off the old tape and put down new.But I have never had the canvas rip off symbols. 😢 but I have Ali-express kits.
For me, it was an experiment to see how difficult it would be. Many DSA kits have issues like rivers and bubbles which keep your drills from laying flat. Thanks for watching!
If your canvas is full of irreparable rivers and wrinkles this is an optional repair. Personally I do not like DSA. It is far easier to reposition drills on PG.
To get off the rest of the DSA that was left? I hadn’t thought of that, but once I applied the liquid glue, those little spots weren’t noticeable. Thanks for watching!!
