      I would love to see this! So many great things to cover like how heroes always know where all the bad guys are. Bad guys jump out of nowhere and the hero takes them down effortlessly. Anyone who has ever been blindsided knows that doesn’t work that way.
      Also, heroes can magically absorb as much damage as needed in order to win the fight. Speaking from personal experience, one well placed punch can end a fight, yet heroes shrug off dozens of punches, kicks, stab wounds, gun shots, and strikes with heavy objects to beat their opponents.
      Another one is that in movies everyone is a great fighter. From skinny tech guys to Gladys in accounting, everyone has at least 10 years of martial arts training. In reality, 95% of people have no idea how to fight. Hell, most don’t know how to make a proper fist or throw a proper punch that won’t break their own hand.
      There is so much great stuff to cover. The video could be called “Your hero will get his ass kicked.” I’d pay money to see that one!

      He usually makes fun of villains trying to kill the protagonist, after they caught him, by having a bomb explode under the chair the protagonist is tied up to ..or leaving a goon behind to shot the hero, instead of just making sure they are shot/killed then and there, not later

    In the movie Somewhere in time, Christopher Reeves runs out of a lady's hotel room to the protests of another man who sees him. As Reeves darts out of the room and down the hall, he thinks, stops and slowly and casually walks BACK to the room he just left. The man in the room, bursts out and sees Reeves asking him if he just saw someone running away to which Reeves says yes, he just ran past me." or something to that effect. This wasn't some long chase scene, it was a simple fake out that worked.

      When I was about 14, my friend and I were being chased by a bunch of 16 year olds. We broke line of sight, ran onto the campus of a school, and hid at the bottom of a staircase.
      All they had to do was look over the railing and we were screwed. We could here then walking near us and calling out to us, but they never looked over. There was just too many places we could have gone. After about 2 or 3 minutes, one said “they’re not here, they probably ran down that side street” and they were gone.
      Like he says, once you lose sight of someone, they can be right next to you and you’ll never find them.

    I eluded and got behind a group of muggers in broad daylight on a grid based set of streets one time while carrying bags home from the mall. I followed them for a few minutes while they were looking for me and ended up whistling and waving to them from a couple blocks back. So long as you realize someone is following you with enough distance it's easy to just make a turn, run to the end of the block, make another turn and crouch behind a car. Then watch them stand in the middle of the road scratching their heads.

      @@niatscreations4913 After that I started walking away and they started powerwalking uphill after me. I saw a guy washing a tractor on a trailer and told him what was up. He let me stand with him for a minute so they walked away.
      I lived across from the police station so I stopped at a cop car with two cops in it who were bsing and checking out this girl walking down the street. I told them what happened and the guys actually walked by at that moment 😂
      So the cops asked where I lived and I said, "right here," and they just said "well, I guess you don't need us, then."
      I guess there isn't really much they can do over a few guys following someone walking home, but I wish they would have at least treated it seriously and maybe wrote down their description since they can end up being suspects on a case later.
      Edit: I also don't really like to deal with the police since before this event I had been held at gunpoint and mistreated while homeless.
      Also, after getting off the street I moved back east for a couple years and police stopped me and my friend in his car when he was driving me home from work one night. One of the cops put me over the hood of his car and put my pocket knife next to my hand. He put his gun to the back of my head and said, "If you move I'll put three in the back of your head." He held me that way while they searched my friend's car. Didn't find anything (he was legitimately just giving me a ride home, the last one I would ever get from him).
      When they were finally done, this cop said to me these exact words: "You might think it's wrong, but if I see two white boys riding around this neighborhood this time of night, I'm gonna pull them over every time."
      It's extra ironic because this happened a block over from the house I used to live in before moving out of state.
      Anyway, kind of a rant, but that's part of the reason I don't call the police, and I'm not even involved with Defund the Police or anything like that.

    In the few video games that do require the chaser to have visual contact on the chased to know where they are, it is rather easy to lose the chaser so I understand why so many "cheat" by not requiring this. Many Assassins Creed games require the enemies to have actual visual contact to know where you are, and as soon as you can break that sight line it's very easy to then get away from the hornets nest you stirred up.

    I haven't really been in a good chase in real life.
    But in a 4v1 survival horror game I've seen both happen.
    People being chased for minutes on end, because small noises and disruptions they make allow the killer to keep on them, and moments where the killer loses someone because they turned a corner and crouched behind something.
    When line of sight fails, you rely on the other senses, and since our smell and touch won't really do us a damned thing, that means hearing.
    Sound doesn't need line of sight, but it can certainly be covered with a bunch of excess noise or weird acoustics in the environment.

  • @Mangeen
    @Mangeen Год назад +3

    So what you're saying is that chases in movies should have the two parties be close enough to each other to be able to see each other. If they lose sight of the other, they have to stop the chase. And their targets will quickly hide or set up ambushes early on, since a chase cannot last that long.
    Got it, I'm taking notes.

    Love your videos, but here’s a point you missed about foot chases. In movies, everyone runs at the same speed and has the same stamina. That’s not the case in the real world. Even if you can maintain sight, unless you can run faster and longer than the person you are chasing, you have ZERO chance of catching them.
    One time, I was on vacation with a buddy who started a fight at the bar we were at. Security threw us out and called the cops.Then he threw a rock through the glass front door of the bar, annnddddd here comes security. We had about a 20 yard head start on them.
    I was a baseball player who hated running and ran the mile slower than any other athlete at the university. He was a track star who was likely one of the 20 fastest athletes in all of college sports. The wall of his dorm was filled with hundreds of medals.
    About 30 seconds into the chase I just gave up as I knew I couldn’t outrun the 4 security guys and I realized I had done nothing wrong. When I gave up, my buddy was already about 150 yards away. Security could see him, but instead of continuing to pursue him, they stopped to ask me where he was headed because chasing him was pointless. Eventually, he made a turn and was out of sight and despite hours of searching by both security and the police, they never found him.
    That’s how most chases actually go. Movies act as if everyone’s speed and stamina is equal, but in reality, Bond would have ended up watching that dude parkour away and been able to do nothing about it.

    The physical and noise trail your target leaves along with dead ends and obstacles affecting him more with him also needing to know your location while facing away from you; makes it actually harder to escape a pursuer

    • @TheProfessorExplains
      @TheProfessorExplains Год назад +6

      You bring up a good point. Tracking and listening can help a pursuer if they lose sight, but that only matters in certain situations where the area the chase takes place in is somewhat confined. In a chase without confinement, speed and stamina are 99% of the battle.
      My ex-fiancé was a soccer player and ran the mile in a little over 5 minutes. I played baseball and couldn’t run a mile straight without stopping. She would often offer me some amazing “prizes” if I could catch her. As much as I wanted to win, there was literally nothing I could do. It was like watching a turtle trying to catch a racehorse, no matter what the horse does wrong, the turtle is never going to catch him.

    • @sovietbottle-cap1649
      @sovietbottle-cap1649 Год назад +1

      @@TheProfessorExplains well accounting for that we can conclude that the one being pursued need greater luck,phisycal and obstacle parkouring abilities or an escape rout with the last 2 varying based on the setting
      But regardless in an obstacle rich environment the pursuer has an advantage mitigating the last of those 2 factors
      Ps: i wanted to add that the fleeing person will have to clear the obstacles first often facilitating the work of the pursuer if i wasn't clear
      Ex:moving people and trash bins away

    • @gear2902
      @gear2902 Год назад +2

      @@sovietbottle-cap1649 Depends on the location. If the chase is in a busy mall or on a busy street, it'll be very easy to escape. If the chase is in between abandoned alleyways it makes it easier, but you can still break line of sight, take a turn or hide.

    • @TheProfessorExplains
      @TheProfessorExplains Год назад +1

      Yeah, that’s a very valid point. I was working off the idea that the chase takes place in a large space, but in a smaller, obstacle ridden environment the pursuer definitely has an advantage. Like you mention, the one fleeing has to clear obstructions which makes it easier for the pursuer and leaves a “trail”. Also, the fewer exits, the less likely the one fleeing will get away. Finally, the speed and stamina of the one fleeing is rendered meaningless in an environment where there isn’t the space to run at top speed for very long.
      I think your point highlights the importance of the environment in determining who has the advantage which I hadn’t really thought about. Definitely a good observation that adds some complexity to assessing who is in the better position to achieve their goal of either escaping or catching the target.

    • @gear2902

    second, adreralin also boost a hearing so only reason for chase is keep any sounds, if a some streets have pools of water, you can heard a fast steps wich means a somebody is sprinting there wich chances are highter if its your target.
    For cars, it can be only a few, specific cars, if you have experience, you know some cars making diff sounds when they drive, so this will make you sure wich car you chase but with a lots of loudly noises in city its hard maintain it.

    Why chases fail was shown many times in games like NfS. If you chase person in crowd literally random event blocking your path for a second requires you to find target again and while in NfS most of the time target need to move in way you CAN predict because smarter cops would just block both paths from car parking or sth, if target is on foot you're doomed. If you chase person through crowded square, lose contact for second and target goes inside literally any random place with 2 entrances you can go home as b4 you realize it they can be anywhere but on said square. Are they anywhere visible from 2nd entrance? Probably not. Same with target on bus stop. I go home from work usnig bus station. Good luck guessing which one of 5 buses that just left is one you should care about

    In metal gear 1 & 2 you can get away w/o a map by doing really stupid things sometimes like once I played the 2nd one & being that I didn't have the map memorized in full I was really not wanting to get caught but I triggered and alarm I raced into one room leapt over a banaster I had completely forgotten that it was a straight shot down to the floor below I screamed knowing my MC was going to be dead but instead they landed right ontop of a passing gaurd who was not triggered by the alarm so he saved my life! then I ran into a vent and stayed there for ever.
    Alien Isolation also kind of nails the whole you can hide if they can't see you one time the xeno dropped behind me I bolted as I was trapped between in and some human goons with no idea where the exit actually was but knew where the goons were as they were the whole reason I snuck back the way I did so I ran straight for them the issue was I could've been killed by them or the xeno at any moment I had no idea of their position other then they existed in a general direction so the first guy sees me running right at him I weave to the side he miss fires I literally grace the guy's back as I bolt through a door to I have no fukcing clue I hear the xeno murder him!
    I see two people! I fall to the floor crawl under a bed leap up weave around the next guy both of them are trying to shoot me as the xeno bolts in killing girl 1 who fires over my shoulder I see the bullets hit the fucking wall right next to a new door! I race out hearing the xeno's feet pounding in a run they guy screams being torn apart I bank right I have no idea if there is a human behind me nor where I'm going beyound away and I turn left and see the heavenly glow of the elevator! This is your transportation elevator that puts you to the next level I rush inside hit the button and the xeno runs around the corner sees me and kills me through the slim gap in the door with it's tail! Lucky for me once you get right where the doors begin to close the game counts you as fine! So I magically lived! I could never redo the luck it took for both these games!
