Ringo said he and George would be at one of their houses, having tea on a Sunday morning, when the phone would ring. They'd hesitate to answer because they knew it was Paul asking them to go to the studio. Ringo said that without Paul, the Beatles would have recorded much less material.
Agreed. Too many reactors try to perform and talk over the music and try to sound like experts. These folks are real and honest and give great insight to the songs.
Those people don’t realize that the shit music they like now owes their sound and harmonies to the Beatles…and Beach Boys. These two bands continue to inform music for over 50 years.
I really credit Sir George Martin and his production and sound elements as adding so much more to what the Beatles wrote. He was so instrumental I. His vision as a Producer and Sound man to adding these incredible orchestrations and musical elements to their music.
I can't wait. "Everybody's got somethin'..." and others will blow them away, and "Revolution #9" will f them up and/or put them to sleep, lol. 87.5% of that album has been certified as extraordinarily brilliant, heh.
Paul said that when he started writing songs--well before the Beatles--there of course was no music like the Beatles', so he imagined he would be a music hall performer. I.e. bouncy, sentimental, crowd-pleasing songs. So he wrote in that style--When I'm Sixty Four is an example. That's why you can hear that style in much of his music. Being a musical genius, he made that style fantastic.
John and Paul were equal in talent. They wrote about the same amount of songs by the end of the Beatles. John was the leader in the early days. By about the mid 60s Paul took the lead, John was deeply depressed. All the unresolved grief that he buried through constant touring came up - because he now had time after they stopped touring. He still wrote great songs. But he had to finally face the loss of his mum, his uncle (father figure), his best mate (Stu Sutclif) and abandonment by his father when he was a toddler. It manifested as depression, numbness. There was no help then. That's why Yoko was important. She helped him with early 'scream' therapy. Lennon sang some of this pain away in his brutally honest plastic ono band album. Raw stuff. Just him, Ringo and a German artist friend who played bass. Yes, Paul was the glue, especially after they stopped touring.
Paul's may favorite, too & was many people's favorite back in the day. Was my mom's favorite when she was a teen in the 60s, for sure. Yes, all the other Beatles said Paul was the hardest worker, when they didn't want to work he'd be like, c'mon, we have work to do! Of course I love many Lennon songs but Paul was 'the' Beatle in my mind.
if they hadn't stopped touring and concentrated on their studio recordings we wouldn't have masterpieces like this. at the time people were upset, but it turned out to be the best decision they made in their career.
Playing live gigs was a nightmare for them, not even worth it. No one could hear them playing/singing because the crowd was flipping out the whole time. Just a circus getting around even. Stopping touring was their best move & for their mental health.
Thank you two for your reactions to the Beatles music, I’m a life long Beatles fan and I get a thrill watching younger generations enjoy their music. Again, thanks and you’ve become my favorite reaction duo.
When their manager died it was Paul that would call the other and say ,Come on boys let's get back to work .Paul and John were both geniuses and George a great writer also .
Now your certified Beatles Fans. Every one of us has had the same conversation. With me my older brother. As how we ranked our favorite Beatles. For me John, George,Paul and Ringo. Last comment, do yourselves a Solid, Roll Up before you guys listen to I am The Walrus. Once you hear it, you’ll understand. Peace my friends ❤️
John was serious and his music dramatic; Paul was cute and his music was romantic; George was quiet and his music was deep; Ringo was the loveable clown, who sang mostly novelty songs. George Martin was the glue who held them together. They all liked to have fun.
Paul is like the middle sibling that mediates the rest of the siblings! In the middle keeping the peace. Imagine being a little kid with a big imagination listening to this. This music influenced my art a lot as a little girl. I have come to believe this is one of my favorite Beatles album. The lyrical imagery is soooo fascinating!!! Jewels everywhere!!!!😁😁😁😄💗💗💗
There's a video of Ringo being interviewed and during the interview he mentioned that, if it wasn't for Paul the Beatles would have only released 3, maybe 4 albums .
The Beatles was originally John's band. John started it. He brought in Paul, Paul brought in George, and George brought Ringo in. Paul started to take over by this time.
As a kid, you like Ringo ‘cos he’s the fun one with a funny name. Then you learn the songs and like Paul ‘cos he sings them and seems friendly. As a teenager you like John ‘cos he’s rebellious, idealistic and sings from his heart. As you get older and wiser, you take to George’s understated brilliance and worldliness. Then on your deathbed, you realise it was Ringo all along.
The complexity in the simplicity of their music is beautiful. Who but the Beatles puts what sounds like a kazoo in the forefront of a song and it sounds perfect!
It's a collaborative effort with the Beatles. Each was brilliant in their individual way, as musician, song writer, and singer. Love Fool on the Hill. Haven't heard it for a bit.
Start to begin learning abut the Beatles over again from another view thanks to your channel. So insightful and entertaining. I love your feel and appreciation of all things Beatles. Thank you gentlemen. Terrific work and fun to watch!. Thanks
I've been very down because my cat is dying. Watching you guys genuinely makes me smile and laugh the whole time and helps me forget about all my sorrow. Thank you
You are correct. When their manager, Brian Epstein, died in 1967, Paul took over and came up with many new projects, MMT being one of them. Ringo has said, he and John would be out in the garden relaxing, and Paul would call them and say "Time to get back in the studio". He was the workaholic in the band. Ringo has also said that Paul sang on 90% of The Beatles's songs. He did take the lead in the band's later years. That could be one of the reasons the other members resented him.
The "Let It Be" film is fascinating and shows the frustrations and cracks appearing in the band. But I recommend you also watch the rmore recent "Get Back" documentary series which gives a broader view of the Beatles around that time and a more nuanced picture of their relationship after so many years.
I remember listening to this song as a kid. When I was 10 years old, I listened to the basic sound of the music and vocals together as one unit. Now, as an adult, the song takes on more meaning musically and vocally. I haven't heard the song for over 40 years and the things I hear now in it really make me appreciate it more. I've not really been a 'BEATLES' fan, but if I had to pick a solo artist, it would be George Harrison. His Beware of Darkness song penetrates my soul. Great review guys. Love seeing your passion.
It’s just silly how much creative juice they had in their bottle. Some bands might have one or two songs , other bands might have an album or two but these damn guys everyone of their albums were just good.
You guys have one of the best Beatles reactions channels, if not the best! You can really appreciate the greatness of the Beatles, where other channels do not have a clue into the Beatles' greatness! Thank you for your honest reactions 😃!
John once said he was at his house with Ringo and the phone rang, and he said they both looked at each other and knew it was Paul calling for them to come to the studio.
This song reminds me of my childhood. The change from Dmaj to the parallel Dmin was fascinating to me even though I didn’t know what it was except different. 💜💜💜
The old saying back then, Paul was the heart, John the mind, George the soul, and Ringo the body of the Beatles lol. Brasil 66 does a nice cover of this song.
I remember Ringo said in an interview that him and John would be sitting in his garden getting high, and they could tell by the way the phone rang that it was Paul saying let's get to work.
One element that the Beatles had in their music is the influence of the British Music Hall tradition which is often overlooked in the analysis of their creativity...
When I saw Paul, Linda was still alive. And when they did this song in concert he would be on a organ\piano and it would raise up and turn round and round.
Che, you are absolutely right. Paul was the glue, and my favorite Beatle too. He is a workaholic, and is still touring and releasing music. He pushed the Beatles to be better, called them to come to the studio, and worked obsessively to get each recording perfect. Ringo himself said that the Beatles wouldn't have recorded nearly as much music if Paul hadn't hounded them to come to the studio, and do one more take. Eventually, John, George, and Ringo wanted to slow down and enjoy other things, and got sick of Paul's direction, and the band fractured, and eventually disbanded. This happened After Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour, two very "Paul" concept albums. When it came time to record their next album the "White" album, officially The Beatles, they were fighting, with Paul and John recording separate songs in separate studios with John and George openly bad mouthing Paul in the studio--some engineers quit because they couldn't stand to see it. When you get to the white album, I'm sure you hear how the amazing collaboration and unity that made this album is gone. The white album is fantastic in it's own right, but more like solo projects with Ringo staying out of the fight and drumming when asked. I hope someone enjoys this. I really enjoy this channel. All the best.
La and Che: I really appreciate so very much your infectious love of music! Both of you guys give us your TRUE reactions and deep analysis that we enjoy. Keep up the excellent work!!
During their down time while the others were content to just hang out Paul would go and see all types of artists performing to draw inspiration and ideas for songs and recording techniques. Definitely the engine of the fab four.
La you’ve *alway* shown an emotional core that’s especially sensitive to modulations in key -especially the major-to-minor, as here (and great songwriters know how to manipulate emotional reactions via modulations). Even when you don’t comment on it, your eyes and head groove show how they’re registering. If I had nothing but time on my hands I’d make a video mashup of these Modulation Moments - and would be a long one! 🙃
During the height of BEATLEMANIA, the most pertinent burning question of the era was "WHO'S YOUR FAVOURITE BEATLE?" How I smiled when you confessed."PAUL is my FAVOURITE Beatle!". Wonderful to hear that again!
The Disney 8 hours plus version of the documentary was called Get Back, the original 1 1/2 hour film was called Let It Be [Both 1970-filmed in January 1969].
The Beatles were 4 genius's in their field's but the inalienable sense of melody was Paul's gift to the Beatles. John brought a rock n roll sensibility and a great voice allied with a cynical sense of humour, george brought a different approach to the construction of melody within the song, Ringo...don't get me started on how Ringo shaped the rhythmic attack of any Beatles song he played on. But Paul, Paul was the glue, the spirit, the essence of the Beatles. Well spotted gentlemen, you see the truth.
But John and George are the only ones I continued to listen to during their solo careers. Paul’s first few albums had some great songs, but most were boring. John’s voice has always been my favorite, his songs too. I was 9 the first time I heard the Beatles, and John was my first crush❤️
The Let It Be documentary it’s like being a fly on the wall in the studio. It’s incredible. I would love to see you guys do a reaction to the yellow submarine movie. Totally psychedelic I think you’re ready for it.
Yes, I watched the whole Get Back documentary twice. Fascinating stuff to a Beatles fan (like me) and maybe to music fans in general. It might be a little much for a casual fan. 🤷♀️ in many ways, Paul has always been my favorite. The Scorsese documentary about George made me appreciate him more. Watching the Get Back documentary made me love John. You really get to see his silly side which is delightful. You also see how loyal, dependable, and lovable Ringo is throughout everything. Paul is still my fave Beatles but I love them all. ❤
@@JoeandAngie whoa, that’s cool! It was pretty hard to get wasn’t it? I saw it at Beatlefest in the late 80s, but I don’t remember seeing it anywhere else.
I am getting that Bio Let it be. I wanna recommend to you guys. Watch the bio Get Back on the Beatles. It shows them when they were smiling and having fun in the studio together. It also shows there strong friendship with Billy Prestin recording with him and having a great time. It really gives you a inside look at the band at better times.
Still loving everything you do. But when it comes to Beatle and/or their solo careers... I live for that. It makes my day. I've been ill for a couple of weeks. Feeling okay again and SO happy to find this waiting for me. Never underestimate how your content cheers people up. You're doing good work.
You always get a very musical song, if that makes sense, not just a rhythm-driven vehicle, but always a really good, sometimes great melody with harmonies. People sing these songs, other singers, and average people driving around, working. Musical stuff. And who has a recorder solo in their songs? It is actually Paul playing a wooden recorder, a type of flute with a whistle mouthpiece also referred to by the technical term “fipple flute”.
From the time I was 12 years old and was introduced to The Beatles, while the US Navy had us living in Scotland, Paul was always my favorite. At first, it was because he was the "cute" Beatle but later, it was his talent.
Yes, and could be mean to Paul, like when he publicly said all Paul writes is silly love songs. Like, why?! Paul wasn't running around putting John down. Paul has talked about how that hurt him. I mean, they were friends since they were quite young, went through the experience of being a Beatle that only the 4 of them in the entire world can understand, then John is a jerk to him. Ugh.
I have heard both Ringo and George say that if it wasn’t for Paul the BeaTles probably wouldn’t have made 1/2 the albums that they did He was and is an extremely motivated dude
McCartney’s sense of melody is insane
20th century's best composer.
My Dad said that McCartney had a savant like ability to come up with melodies.
@@nathanharris4105A very perceptive man, your pops

Paul had one of the great voices in music.
"HAS," heh.
HAS not had
"the Fool on the Hill" has a wonderful alternation between major and minor keys, and the recorders give it its distinctive sound.
Their chord changes are so brilliant

Except that strange haunting coda of Cry Baby Cry. A John song but Paul tacks on that very strange section. It is better than Wild Honey Pie
They went from the major on the first chorus to minor on the second chorus and made it from a happy song into an ominous song.
Paul said that when he started writing songs--well before the Beatles--there of course was no music like the Beatles', so he imagined he would be a music hall performer.
in many ways, Paul has always been my favorite. The Scorsese documentary about George made me appreciate him more. Watching the Get Back documentary made me love John. You really get to see his silly side which is delightful. You also see how loyal, dependable, and lovable Ringo is throughout everything. Paul is still my fave Beatles but I love them all. ❤
Used to have the Let Be Movie on vhs in the 80s
Paul took the bossa nova music of the time and turned into something Beatle. Amazing song - one of Macca's best.
Never thought of the Beatles as having a leader.
I'm with you on that...they seemed more like a team, at their best.
Paul is a musical genius.
From the time I was 12 years old and was introduced to The Beatles, while the US Navy had us living in Scotland, Paul was always my favorite. At first, it was because he was the "cute" Beatle but later, it was his talent.
Paul was a brilliant, prolific writer.. especially towards the end. John, also a creative genius, but was a bit jealous of Paul, in my opinion.
John was every bit the genius Paul was.Who cares. Two geniuses.
Ugh.
I have heard both Ringo and George say that if it wasn’t for Paul the BeaTles probably wouldn’t have made 1/2 the albums that they did
He was and is an extremely motivated dude
Paul is my favourite Beatle, too. How DOES he do that?! 🙌🏼
