One little chef hint (I learned it from my Uncle who went to cooking school), he taught me to strain the pasta once you get it to your desired doneness, and then use just a little bit of the pasta water to thicken and flavor your sauce. It has worked well for me, not sure if it is a myth lol but it has always made great sauces! Either way, that looked delicious!!
My wifes Italian, all her family cook this way, one of the best tips ever. That bit of starch water is the difference between a nice pasta dish and an elite pasta dish. The difference always astounds me, it really really makes the pasta and the sauce
was going to say the same, cook the sauce till heated through, instead of cooking it down to thicken, add a little pasta water, and even a splash of cream or half and half to thicken the sauce.
Spaghetti twist: Use regular tongs, not fancy tips. Twist the spaghetti in the pot, lift and drop in the plate. It falls in a twist. If it is small, add a second one. Good video, yummy crabs 👍
Great job out there… here’s a few tips. Strain that pasta so it’s not sopping the bowl with water. Mix that crab meat sauce into the linguini prior to plating. When plating, twirl that spaghetti on the way down very slowly so it always stays like a mound and not a plop. Top it with parsley and Parmesan. (You can also add Parmesan to that cream sauce as well). Al Dente is the way to go , mushy noodles yuck. I live off pasta and all kinds of it 👌🏼🤌🏼 … other than that, I would still inhale that plate brother well done.
Always add the pasta to the sauce in the pan for a good mix before serving. The bit of starchy water from the pasta cooking will enhance the sauce, making it richer and thicker.
Wow Jay 😲. That was a Awesome haul from the traps, fantastic to see 👏. That you thow back some of the legal sized ones ( looking at the BIG picture of life ). Keeping the population of them strong 👍🤘👍.
Great stuff mate, i miss crabbing for brownies when i was a kid in Great Yarmouth, but now have to settle for catching blue swimmers here in Australia. Tip for the pasta twirl mate is to twist it in the air as you place it onto the plate 😊 hope this helps ✌️🇦🇺
Absolutely brilliant, a great catch, and a great cook-up. That looks a lot tastier than when you first started up years ago and were eating Limpits with Sam. Now that was funny. Keep up the great content, I really love your channel.
Am I the only one watching the crab go spinning in the air on the way back to the water scoring every dive I give them all a 10 for the spinning move they all do 😂😂😂😂😂
if i may be so bold, when cooking crab or lobster avery good method is,,, bring pot of salted water to a rolling boil ,, put in crab or lobster , bring water back to a rolling boil , and time for 2 minuets, your shellfish is cooked to perfection ,,, try it see how you go, love the channel , stay lucky...oh forgot to say , this works for any size as the bigger they are the longer it takes to get back to a rolling boil , still time 2 minuets and its done .
I wish more lads had your mentality when it comes to throwing back just in size lobsters/brown crabs and i hate to say it in cornwall i know of a few guys n gals that would keep female browns/lobster's....Refreshing to see someone doing right for the benefit of all in the long term, Great vid keep em up chap :)
Get in touch with Sammy Hitske in Australia. He is every bit as likeable as you. Get him to Guernsey, and you go to Australia. That would be the best fishing videos ever!
I steam my crabs 🦀 with a some white vinegar! It does two things. One, it prevents the meat from sticking to the shell and two it makes the crab 🦀 meat taste sweeter!
A personal recipe from NZ bro. BAZ'S PAUA PADDIES. Mince together Paua (Ormars) meat with SMOKED MUSSELS/OYSTERS or even bacon and a little of the following.....) onion/spring onion, bell pepper, garlic, lemon juice. Mix in a bowl with one egg. Cover and put in fridge to marinade for an 1 hour to 1 day. Coat in bread crumbs/ flour or, no coating is great. Make a Patty shape and fry on med/high heat for 3mins? or golden brown. Chur chur Bro.
Ive learned to always be eating when I watch your videos because whatever you cook makes me so hungry lol. LOVE your content! Keep up the awesome work always! WoooH!
Twisting tongs… the idea is to build the food high, looks better. Strain the pasta, keep a bit of the water to add to the sauce, add that extra butter at the end to thicken slightly. I’d recommend throwing the pasta in with crab etc, idea is to coat that pasta with the sauce
What a hell of a brown crab. You needed a bigger spoon the way you where shovelling that pasta in😂. Only I tip I can offer is to mix your cooked pasta into your sauce with a bit of heat for a minute. Only reason I know that is I’ve seen the Mrs do it😂👍🇨🇦
Looked like you were cooking your sauce with a bit too much heat and a bit too long. Try adding some of the pasta water to make your sauce a bit smoother and not so pasty. None the less I’m sure with all that crab meat it was to die for ! Glad to see good catches!
When u opened tha can, if u put another smaller hole on the opposite side for ur larger pouring hole it will allow ur liquid to pour out without the suction
Ya know.. for somebody who says “he’s not a cook” you actually do a pretty good job pal.. There’s a lot I could teach you and honestly I’d love to come cook for you but it’s a damn long way for me to travel (Yorkshire) However.. if you want any tips/tricks just hit me up kid.. I’m trained in classical French cookery but my knowledge is much wider.. I do love a curry 😏😋👌🏻👍🏻 For a long time Iv wanted you to have a bash at Lobster karahi.. I think it would be incredible.. If you want a recipe just let me know kid 👍🏻
Yeah you’ll have a bowl full for a sandwich. As long as you don’t eat it while you’re cleaning it you’re good for that one. You gotta mix it with pasta or in a garden salad or are you just gonna make a nice big sandwich?❤❤
Never seen anyone using garfish as pot bait. We get reasonably good money for them on the fish market here, so they arent ever used. We are knee deep in herring for 8 months of the year, so most people salt herring down in barrels to last the summer.
Your food always looks so amazing and just perfect the way you make it 😁 all these people trying to tell you how to cook. lol... You're fine just the way you cook 😉 Another awesome video Smash! ❤ If I could give you a million thumbs up I would for sure! You rock! 🤘
Please .. when ya pasta is done... put it into the pan WITH the sauce..no heat ..& add a little of the pasta water .. to get the sauce consistency ya want? it's basic rule for pasta cooking.. trust me..?
Great vid jay, little tip on the cooking, should put linguine in with the crab and juices to coat them then serve, looked awesome though.
Yep what he said… bit of cheese on top and parsley if you like
One little chef hint (I learned it from my Uncle who went to cooking school), he taught me to strain the pasta once you get it to your desired doneness, and then use just a little bit of the pasta water to thicken and flavor your sauce. It has worked well for me, not sure if it is a myth lol but it has always made great sauces! Either way, that looked delicious!!
You're correct with that
+ finish off the pasta in the sauce in the pan!
My wifes Italian, all her family cook this way, one of the best tips ever. That bit of starch water is the difference between a nice pasta dish and an elite pasta dish. The difference always astounds me, it really really makes the pasta and the sauce
My wife does this she's the best ❤
was going to say the same, cook the sauce till heated through, instead of cooking it down to thicken, add a little pasta water, and even a splash of cream or half and half to thicken the sauce.
Love your content and cooking it always looks so tasty.
These videos are so so enjoyable...you may be the fisherman, but I'm hooked!!
I like the way you toss what you don’t need back even though they’re Keepers. Nice going!
You could use the water that you cooked the crabs with to cook to the linguine. Great video! Congrats on your catches!
Spaghetti twist: Use regular tongs, not fancy tips. Twist the spaghetti in the pot, lift and drop in the plate. It falls in a twist. If it is small, add a second one. Good video, yummy crabs 👍
Smashing it as always. I can almost smell the adventure. Keep em coming bro keep em coming. Please stay safe everyone and God bless
Thanks for watching mate 🔥
I do appreciate the fact that you will throw back anything you don't need.

Mate not even top chef's cook that good, it looks absolutely delicious, keep doing what you do.
Always add the pasta to the sauce in the pan for a good mix before serving. The bit of starchy water from the pasta cooking will enhance the sauce, making it richer and thicker.
Thanks rob

Two of the greastest pastimes in the world, fishing and cooking, blended together in some of my fave content on the web. Nice one Jay

Well spotted mate 👍 it’s all about moderation , even in commercial fishing it should be the same , look after your stocks
Get in touch with Sammy Hitske in Australia. He is every bit as likeable as you. Get him to Guernsey, and you go to Australia. That would be the best fishing videos ever!

None the less I’m sure with all that crab meat it was to die for ! Glad to see good catches!
Thanks terry il keep that in mind 🔥
some chopped parsley in your sauce would help a little, not to mention some garlic bread
Ah garlic bread would of been a banger 🔥 thanks
Also definitely add some pasta water into ur pasta sauce right before ur plate to thin it a bit so it coats ur pasta better
Try to cook a crab pot pie it's delicious!
When u opened tha can, if u put another smaller hole on the opposite side for ur larger pouring hole it will allow ur liquid to pour out without the suction

Haha cheers mate 😂 in trying to do better cooks , im always willing to learn
It look like I got some pretty good spider crabs those lobsters look real nice but that Shanker is massive. I have never seen anything that big.😂❤❤
Hit the like 👍 button guys.
Do the lobsters fight with the spiders in the pots smash
Great question mate i believe they would , it’s more the brown crabs that would do the real damage tho
Wish I was having a dinner like that love from nz
Nice one Jay
Always add the pasta in with the sauce. Also drizzle with olive oil
Ah, it's your new Maryanne sailing dingee. I went back 3 months.
Pounds can of coconut milk 🔪
That's why we call you Smash fishing 👌
Great cook up idea matey.
👌🫣😂
You punctured the coconut milk can once. If you puncture it twice, one each side of the can it will pour out very easy.
Yeah you’ll have a bowl full for a sandwich. As long as you don’t eat it while you’re cleaning it you’re good for that one. You gotta mix it with pasta or in a garden salad or are you just gonna make a nice big sandwich?❤❤
Don't bother cooking the fish mum, Jay's come home with the crabs.
can you fish lobster all year round where u live?
Good job son

Yummy 😋

Placing the butt of the rod under your armpit?? Try placing the rod butt in/around your stomach area - much easier!!
Make sure you taste as you go along
Are spider crabs related to them king crabs ? Ta
Great question mate il have to look it up 👍
could have put some of the crab water with it would have added more flavour
Hope you beat every PB🎉
Twist the pasta as you’re putting it on the plate, but don’t flatten it after 😂 the whole idea is to have a twisted mound in the centre of the plate
😂😂😂 that’s a good point 🙈😂
Haha well I thought the little bit of crab meat was for Smash 😂ohh well maybe next time 🤔😴
Your food always looks so amazing and just perfect the way you make it 😁 all these people trying to tell you how to cook. lol... You're fine just the way you cook 😉 Another awesome video Smash! ❤ If I could give you a million thumbs up I would for sure! You rock! 🤘
