Woodturning Blue Scraps Bowl

- In this woodturning project, I've made a bowl with these scraps of wood, which were on their way to the trash can. I've used blue colored resin with them and the result was pretty interesting.

I think these scrap & resin pieces turn out even more stunning than the planned pattern bowls and vases.

Cool. I'm saving wood to do the same thing. I also pick up small pieces of driftwood to add to the bowl.

Just a thought, if you are going to hollow out the project in the end why not place a very light wood or something easy to drill through so it takes less time and effort to hollow out.

Couple questions; you had a pretty aggressive amount of wood scraps sticking up out of the resin, how did you smooth that out so well? What was your sanding regime? What did you use to get the final glossy finish and how did you smooth out the bottom of the piece?

Did you fill in the screw holes on the bottom? It must have been nerve racking when you started to get deeper inside the bowl...trying not to catch a screw. It turned out amazing.
Do you use a Pressure Pot to remove the bubbles in the resin? If not howdoyou get such a flawless finish?

Is this bowl microwaveable and toxic free?
Once you add resin to any bowl/ cutting board ect it is not microwavable because the resin can't handle the heat and they do make food safe resin but it's expensive and not alot of wood turners want to pay that high of price resin is already expensive when you hey into the specialty resins it gets ridiculous in price

It needs a solid middle so the live center has a good place to mount while rough turning the exterior. A block of soft wood could work and save a few nickles. Meh
