In this video, we head to Singapores China town, a popular area within Singapore. We came here to check out what it's like and try some food that is popular in this area. Little did we know that the locals would be so kind and help us in making sure we try the right food. We went Vincent in the 1950's Kopi shop where he said that a Kopi with condense milk is a mult try when in Singapore.

BTW, the xiao long bao doesn’t have vinegar in it. It’s the pork broth from the juicy meat and fats. The dip is not a soya sauce but a black vinegar. Most people like to dip the xiao long Bao in vinegar and eat it with fresh and thinly shredded ginger.

I just knew people would jump on the virtual signalling bandwagon about the impersonation🤦🏻♀️ It was not racist at all! No one was oppressed…people don’t even understand what racism means in this ridiculous, woke world! Trying to speak in a different accent is not disrespectful…it is merely acknowledging differences in the way different cultures sound when speaking English. Leanne and Daniel’s accent is South African and has many different inflections when speaking English than a Chinese person would have….or an Australian; American for that matter!

@@dianneklangmy wife is half Chinese (her dad full) and I do it all the time, they love it. It’s good to have fun in life like that, people need to stop taking everything so seriously. There’s a guy on here that dresses up as the stereotype of countries and asks Americans if it is racist and they always say yes. Then he asks the people from the countries and they always say no. It proves that this whole thing is coming from a few fools who want to control others!

If you’re still in Singapore, look for Hokkein Mee, Char Kway Teow and fried (black or white) carrot cake! They’re very affordable and yummy! There’s a hawker stall at gourmet express in Bishan (yellow line exit) if that’s not too far for you!

Xiao long bao beat eaten with spoon so that the soup in it will not drip out and can drink the little soup in it first. This stall didnt give stredded ginger, likely they forgotten. Can first try one without any sauce to know the original taste, then eat another one with the ginger and the black vinegar. (The dark sauce is vinegar and not soy sauce)

Chinatown Singapore is famous for a lot of things such as Sri Mariamman Temple, Pinnacle@Duxton Skybridge, Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, Singapore City Gallery, Chinatown Street Market, Red Dot Design Museum, Thian Hock Keng Temple, NUS Baba House, etc. Lovers of culture looking to immerse themselves in Singapore's rich, multi-ethnic culture will find no better place than Chinatown. This beautiful district is the only Chinatown in the world to boast a Buddhist temple, mosque and Hindu temple along a single street.
Siao long pao best eaten with a spoon (to catch the gravy if it oozes out) and a pair of chopsticks. It usually comes with a black vinegar and shredded ginger dip but you have only the vinegar. Usually you pop the bao on the spoon and drink the gravy then dip it into the vinegar and together with some shredded ginger and put it into your mouth. Heavenly!!

The hole in the old Chinese coins was to string them. There were some advantages of this. Firstly, loose coins could be easily dropped, and the loss would not be immediately noticeable. So tying all your coins with a piece of string was a way of keeping them all together, and as long as you could feel the weight, you knew your money was safe. Some people would even string it around their neck for even greater safety and also to keep it hidden under their clothing.

You should eat xiaolongbao with both chopsticks and a spoon. Also you need to be careful as the soup is very hot. We usually eat with a side condiment of black vinegar and shredded ginger

One can use the Visa or Master Card to pay the fare. So, there is no need to purchase a card for travel in a MRT or bus or taxi.

Glad you guys enjoyed the Xiao Long Bao - but y'all didn't get to enjoy it the authentic way.
Should've gotten spoons as there's soup in each dumpling. What many people do is bite off or poke a corner/hole and sip some broth first. Then put black vinegar (not soy sauce) and some finely sliced ginger on your dumpling and eat it.
I was wondering why it wasn't hot for you when you put the entire dumpling in your mouth lol

3 for 10 3 for 10, still remember when I got a chance to visit Singapore, great city, very organized and clean. The bamboo cake actually called kue putu in Indonesia. And my wife craving that when she pregnant with our 2nd kid. I go around to look and found kue dongkal near market at my house , I ask her if she want that as subs (basically the same but with different look). She wont and insist for kue putu, amazingly when I tried to go home, just not long after I hear the signature sound of kue putu stall and he actually want to go the the market. I bought some and mission accomplished

Some constructive feedback and fun facts
1. Only the East West (Green) Line and the North South (Red) Line have both elevated (above ground) and underground stations. All Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations indicated in grey are fully elevated (above ground). All other lines are fully underground.
2. It is normal to see such a crowd on weekends at around 1:13 and 2:47, because people have more time to spare on weekends.
3. The 'massive buildings' that you mentioned and filmed at 8:33 is actually a block of flats, which is a place of residence for local Singaporeans.
4. The soy sauce that you mentioned at 16:20 is actually a type of Chinese black vinegar called Chinkiang Vinegar or Zhenjiang Vinegar.
5. It is necessary to eat Xiao Long Bao with chopsticks and a spoon. You first pick up a Xiao Long Bao from the basket and place it on the spoon. You will have to nip a hole at the side of the Xiao Long Bao on the spoon, then tilt the Xiao Long Bao such that the hole is facing the spoon to get all the flavourful broth out onto the spoon. Drink the broth first. After drinking the broth, dip the Xiao Long Bao into the Chinkiang Vinegar and enjoy it together with ginger slices.
6. From what I saw at 15:57, the stall owner was bringing the container of ginger into the kitchen. If you wanted the ginger, you can kindly ask the stall assistant for the ginger. Generally, people will first take their desired amount of ginger slices, then pour the vinegar over and allow the ginger to absorb some of the vinegar taste.
7. At 20:41, the coffee uncle adds the hot water to your kopi, which has condensed milk. If you want your coffee to be thicker, say 'Kopi Gao', where less hot water is added. If you want super concentrated full-on strength coffee, say 'Kopi Ti Loh'. 'Ti Loh' means pour all the way, which means without the additional hot water at 20:41.
