Today is our final day in Singapore and before we leave, there is a few things we wanted to try. One of them was Ice Kecang and the other was suger cane juice. Little did we know that trying to find theses 2 items which is very popular here in singapore is actually pretty hard.
We were also staying in a n area called Kampong glam and little did we know that this area is a very very popular area, so we decided to explore it too.

Hi Buddymoon you CANNOT go into a store because the law is very strict on handling of food. All hawkers must attend a food handling hygiene course and all hawkers must attend this course. And anyone without a food hygiene certificate cannot enter the premises of a store because of hygiene. It is to protect the food from being contaminated e.g. someone might sneeze into the food without a mask. And she is right to say that you always ask for permission. Something like someone going into your house without permission is definitely unacceptable.

Yea, SG law for food handling is very strict, that's why you can't just go into any food stall even if the hawker is willing to allow it. As for the dessert, it'll taste much better if you mix the ice shavings up together with all the syrup so you get a kind of multi-coloured half-liquid half-snowy mixture.
Didn't feel like they were sorry about it. Felt like they were offended for not being able to video how their ice kacang were made for the vlog.
I understand what you mean dear...but if the law is so strict, then I guess it should be mandatory that a simple instruction in the form of a sign board should be positioned at the OPEN ENTRANCE to the shop. There are a lot of tourists that may end up in this situation and will not want to go through this type of embarrassment....it is just a piece of advice. I'm sure you understand.
@@logangovender8055 I believe it's a common sense to practice some courtesy before video recording others in their area beforehand? They never did, even if there are no food handling law in place, they are still wrong.
The stall lady was very kind and was smiling when reminding you to ask for permission. Think that is basic courtesy in many countries and not all places are allowed to enter also. Always be respectful when travelling.

i think there are some regulations in place at food stalls and outsiders are not supposed to just enter it as part of food safety. Hence dessert stall stopped you from entering.
Most shops will not let you in the stalls as they are small and also for hygiene reasons. Try sugar cane with lemon for some acidity and different experience.
There was an outlet for straws above the duct for payment . U missed it.
I really enjoyed our short visit to Singapore, but I agree, most of the prices were crazy! You can find excellent food in the Chinese section by eating at the run down looking group of restaurants, can't remember what that was called, but that food was surreal.

Try sugarcane with lime, some stalls even has options of sugarcane with lime/and mint…very refreshing drink esp in the hot weather 😅👍🫶🫰

During your travels in India, did you not get a chance to have Sugarcane Juice? It is an extremely popular drink and is practically found in all states of India, like Mumbai, Goa, Kerala, etc. In India, they normally squeeze half a lemon and add rock salt to the juice. Tastes divine, though it "can" be an acquired taste depending on which part of the world you are from.
What I was thinking too. Sugarcane juice is very popular in India.

Oh ur in food heaven fr there u can hop on a bus or:Mrt 2:Katong(food's glorious)2*Cos it's kinda touristy,yeh!
You guys definitely did your research hehe! Hawker stores are more affordable and since you're near the central, they are still pricier as compared to other town areas though I wouldn't say there's much different. You should also keep a lookout for Kopitiams (Kop-pe-tiamp!) because there are some hawker stores inside :)
Both of you seem to have a more refined palette and taste so perhaps you can try the Nyonya's selection such as the "Kueh Lapis" (Kuey as in UruGUAY) or "Pulut Tai-tai" which isn't extremely sweet as compared to the Ice Kacang and Sugar Cane. Strongly recommend you to visit Katong at night because there are so many food there (Banana Cake, Bak Kut Teh - Peppery Claypot Pork Ribs Soup, Chicken Rice, toasts, coffees, kuehs and more)! Also for a night stroll, you can also walk along East Coast Park which is not super far from Katong.
Oh oh, and about taking videos during food preparation, sorry that you had to experience a bit of a mishap there :) It is true, the premise belong to the stall owner and some of which may contain "secret recipe" and stuff like that, also partly due to hygiene issues, non-personnel shouldn't be allowed in unless the stall owners are okay with it.

I hope you should have tried having Sugarcane Juice during your trip of India. In India almost all the cities have the small shops selling it....again super cheap just 20 cents
Also in India we have Indian version of Ice Cachang called Icegola.....which is again very popular but mainly in Summer

Ice Kecang - In India, its called 'Gola' which is crushed ice with all the flavored sugary syrups but without beans/corns. Next time you must taste it when in India. you will love it.

secondly, the sugarcane juice is also super demanding in summers in India, you get some of the best.
Ermmm….if without signature ingredients like the beans and the corns, then you couldn’t say that Ice kachang is called Gola.
It’s like saying the door is called the window in India just that it is not transparent….and many analogies or examples to prove the point.
Shaved ice desserts are aplenty in many parts of the world in the tropics especially. You can say that they are similar and in fact some are really just the same thing in a different names but not the one you described.
To say X is called Y in India when they have different ingredient compositions is just laughable and to which some will even feel as a form of cultural appropriation.

Why You didn't tried Sugarcane Juice in India. Specially in Village area You would have got the best quality. We Indians have a separate sugarcane juice centers all over streets. You also try raw coconut water.
