Speaking for some of us gen-x'ers, it was great to grow up with Janet Jackson on the fantastic 'Good Times' tv show in the 70's. She was very sweet in that role.
This is why Jimmy and Terry put that Minneapolis funk sound behind her words and the rest is magic. This is why Control Album was slamming during the 80's cause it had the lyrics and the Minneapolis funk sound along with Paula Abdul's choreography was hooking up!
This is a very good assessment, let’s not forget Barry Lather( the choreographer) responsible for the 87’ AMA’s & Grammys and for “ The Pleasure Principle” video, a lot of people thought Paula was behind the whole control project. Barry’s work help solidify Janet’s place in history as well.
Janet Jackson owned 1986 with the "Control" album. So many hits came off this album and this was her first number one song and it was number one for about three weeks. I love this video. It's so fun and upbeat and her dancing is awesome. Women ruled the airwaves in 1986 with the big three (Janet, Whitney and Madonna) but so many other female artists were huge in 1986 also with established artists such as Cyndi Lauper and the Wilson sisters from Heart (who had their comeback around this time) to newcomers like Gloria Estefan and the ladies from The Bangles. 1986 was the year of the female artist. I don't know if he reviewed "Nasty" yet, but that video shows some of Janet's best dancing and choreography. "Alright" is another great video like this with some GREAT dancing.
I made it to the velvet rope tour in my teens, and then was lucky enough to end up 6th row for an "intimate evening with Janet" about 10 years later... she's amazing!
Janet's first number #1 song off the 1986 album "Control" which spawned 4 other Top 5 hits "What Have You Done For Me Lately", "Nasty", title track "Control" & "Let's Wait Awhile" & the Top 20 hit "The Pleasure Principle" which you covered already.
This review was way overdue. You have more Janet Jackson reviews to do. She needs this recognition. Janet Jackson is one of the biggest pop stars in history.
One thing about a Janet Jackson video is you are going to get some killer choreography!! I just love Janet...she always evolved through the years!❤💃🏾💃🏾
There has always been something special about Janet's influence on pop music. Everything she does has a certain vibe. She has such great instinct when it comes to production.
You can probably thank Paula Abdul for the choreography. Before her careers in acting, singing or a judge on American Idol, Paula was a choreographer. She worked with Ms. Jackson on a lot of stuff.
This is probably my favorite video of her and song!! So beautiful and colorful!! This video made me fall even more in love with the one and only Miss Janet Jackson!! 😍
Gen X-er here. Watching you getting into that song made me grin from ear to ear. You weren't the only one chair dancing. Ms Jackson is a favourite artist of mine. Please continue to check her out. If you haven't already, check out her song IF.
This was Jan’s first number 1 ! It’s such a feel good song and video to! You should listen to the 12 inch extended version and the remixes as well! I really want you to react to a song from The Velvet Rope album called “My Need”.
This is just plain sweet. Really liked it when I first heard it, mind you I was only a youngster in 86, 23/24. Still like it. Hard to think that Janet is 56 this year.
I remember going out with my girls on a Friday or Saturday night and we would dress like Janet, she was such a huge role model for us, look how beautiful and flawless she was and still is. ❤️🇨🇦
One of my faves of hers. Always got me bopping around, that beat! Reminds me of younger, happier days. Glad you liked it, too, you were bopping, too!🎧💙🎶
This is my favorite Janet Jackson album - Control. The entire album is 🔥 I played the tape a lot! And loved watching the videos when they were released on MTV. 1986, baby!
I was too young to experience this with the teenagers at the time this was popular. It feels great to be able to connect with that fun youthful vibe almost as if I experienced it too. What a voice and talent
This remains one of my favorite songs and videos from Janet. I didn't realize until watching her recent documentary that she was only about 20 years old when this was released. Who knows what I was doing when I was 19/20? Other great songs by Janet to review that you don't have posted include "Escapade", "Control", "Alright", "Runaway", "Nasty", and "Black Cat".
First off Jayvee you can never go wrong with the eighties (and nineties) hits. Secondly, you are definitely going the right way with Control era Janet for sure...can't wait for your reaction to Nasty.
Escapade is the first Janet song I can remember hearing and loving back in my kindergarten days lol summer of 89 was amazing with music like this! Plus I got to grow up watching her evolution over the years. So glad to say I've seen her live twice!!
As an 80s child I always wanted to live in that city in this video ... which she also visited in Escapade. Nothing but smiles, dancing and good vibes. Minneapolis Funk in it's prime.
I think y'all know Janet is my favorite & I love this video because it's a short feature film that Janet & Michael were the innovators in this concept! Paula Abdul was the choreographer & of course did an incredible job, then went on to have her own successful career in entertainment. Please react to Paula if u haven't already 😊
Top 5 POP songs of all time.... #1. When I think of you janet #1. Kiss me more doja cat #1. Rock with you Mj #1. WE BELONG TOGETHER MARIAH #1. True blue Madge

The 80s were the absolute freaking best!!! Love this Janet tune!!!
you said it!
I lived them as a young man --- they were phenomenal.
Janet is a Mega Superstar like her brother Michael Jackson love this song🔥🔥🔥🔥
Janet is a queen. She has so many great songs.
This is why Jimmy and Terry put that Minneapolis funk sound behind her words and the rest is magic. This is why Control Album was slamming during the 80's cause it had the lyrics and the Minneapolis funk sound along with Paula Abdul's choreography was hooking up!
Yes good assessment

This was Janet's first ever #1 single and my fav by her this always plays at my Walmart
Ms. Jackson is a living legend. At the time (1986) this was one of her biggest hits and there were so many more to follow.
Yea Janet!!!! People always talk about Michael but she has a million hits on her own. Lucky enough to see her in concert for the Rythem Nation tour!
I made it to the velvet rope tour in my teens, and then was lucky enough to end up 6th row for an "intimate evening with Janet" about 10 years later... she's amazing!

Janet had it going in that’s for sure! Paula Abdul of course choreographed this video for Janet. ❤️🙌🏼
Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. Jam And Lewis productions were second to none back then
If you're interested in the production side of her music, you'll like this documentary

The intro sounds so much like Jermaine Stewart’s song, We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off. That’s a great 80’s banger you need to check out.
Jermaine's track sounds like Janet's - but yes, it's definitely a banger. ;) "Control" was released several months before.

Yes! I love it! This and Escapade have always been my faves by her! Keep On Rockin'
Janet's FIRST NUMBER 1
This video was also amazing in another way: notice that it is one continuous camera take!
This was Janet's first number 1 song. Still one of my favorites!!!
I've heard this video was done in one take, which seems impossible and incredible! This is definitely a feel good song!
I think there’s 3 or 4 different cuts in it. I love this video for looking so seamless!
There's 4 cuts but it WAS shot in one tank. The edits were added in to smooth things out. But the original song was one take.
She’s something special. Shout out to JJ and TL
This is just plain sweet. Really liked it when I first heard it, mind you I was only a youngster in 86, 23/24. Still like it. Hard to think that Janet is 56 this year.
All choreographed by Paula Abdul! This is such a joyous video! Jay, have you reacted to Paula’s songs and vids? “ Straight Up” is a great one.

Janet Jackson - Let's Wait Awhile Janet Jackson - The Knowledge
One of my first Janet favorites! Infectious. Fun. Vibrant and confident. She sounds great and that bass is totally jiving.
This video is famous for being done in one continuous take with no edits. Brilliant song too.
I really think you will love the "miss you much" video.
Love Janet's music. She's definitely an artist in her own right. This song is full of energy and vibrancy!!!
Can’t believe this was in the 1980s and still sounds and feels so good!
Also I think you will love"Black Cat"

Janet Jackson - Alright
Legend of pop
Ms. Jackson had so many hits of her own! It’s been a minute since I heard this gem and it still holds up ❤️
You would be surprised over "Black Cat" by Janet Jackson. It's got a nice rock feel to it.
What I loved about her videos was the atmosphere the put out. What a time.
okay Jay, you must do Miss You Much and Escapade to fill out your happy late 80s Janet repertoire 🎉
You gotta view “Love Will Never Do Without You” that was a whole change for Janet’s image.
As an 80s child I always wanted to live in that city in this video ... which she also visited in Escapade.
Nothing but smiles, dancing and good vibes.
Minneapolis Funk in it's prime.
