This was one of those videos that didn't just usher in a new era of Janet Jackson but the 90s itself. Up until this time, you really didn't have a lot of sexuality or a lot of skin from most big artists in their videos, especially ones that started off as young as Janet Jackson did. So all through the 80s, she was literally buttoned and buckled up in big jackets and hats than bulky clothes and all of her videos oh, so this was her being free and independent and taking control of her image and her life and her music and it made her one of the most incredible all through the 90s in the 2000 era.
We weren't ready when this came out. This is the first time she showed this other side with more skin and sensuality. Even her brother, Jermaine, said this is where he noticed she was basically changing her image from her childhood view.
This was from her Rhythm Nation album, released 1989, which would explain the "80s feel"....Herb Ritts decided to put Janet in jeans and a halter top at the last minute and gave the whole video a more casual feel.
Yesss!! This was the beginning of when Janet broke out of her shell and became a sex symbol! Like you said she looked like she was free, my girl said I'm grown grown LOL
When Janet appeared in this Video, the first thing that I thought was "This is the true evolution of Janet 'In Control'"! I knew instantly from watching these Music Videos that Their Lives would change forever, and I was right!
Believe it or not this was from the “Rhythm Nation” album from 1989. It was the 7th consecutive top 5 single from the album and the 4th #1 single from the album. This album is a HISTORIC LANDMARK in music.
This album is very historical. It made history with 3 hit singles in 3 consecutive calendar years. 1989, 1990 and this song 1991. Also her Rhythm Nation Tour was largest debut tour in musical history, which ran 9 months with over 2 million in attendance.
This was late 80s..early 90s. She was finally free of her Dad's control as a manager from the previous album...she was now a solo artist to call her own shots. She had also shed her baby fat and turned into a extremely sexy woman...the 90s was her peak!! Janet was all over my wall as a teenager!!

Definitely react to Control. It's funny they said that because when you said that she was feeling herself in this song, my first thought was "because that's after she took control"

Janet Jackson played Penny on "Good Times" when she was a little girl. Then, she was on "Different Strokes" when she was a teenager. She was also in the TV show "Fame". You should look up some clips of those so you'll see the Janet Jackson we grew up with. Janet was everyone's favorite little sister even before her music career started. It was an album only track that started getting a lot of airplay. The record company decided to release it as a radio only single long after radio stations were playing it out. It still managed to make the top 5. You probably won't get a lot of requests for this one since it didn't have a video and most Janet fans are from the MTV generation, but If you listen to the message of that song it's so relevant today.

Memories, memories...😄 "THAT'S THE WAY LOVE GOES" and "WHEN I THINK OF YOU" (among so many others...) were/are also big hits by Ms Janet Jackson. Great reaction, Jay - yes, this track demands another listen (or three...), and so does watching this video!

Keep listening to her music and watch her as she grows into this fabulous, not afraid of her sensuality, phenom!! Janet had the same producers for a long time. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were her producers so her sound stayed familiar but the way she expressed herself definitely evolved. Before each album there were always discussions about how she was doing personally. Janet said they would talk about everything.
Janet’s got an X factor / natural star quality that’s hard to pin point. I just know it grabs hold and doesn’t let go once you start paying attention to her.

You should check some songs from Janet Jackson's 1997 album "The Velvet Rope", especially "Got 'til It's Gone", because it became such a turning point in her artistic career. I guarantee you, it will definitely blow your mind.
You should watch "Again" by Janet Jackson. It's a pretty love song featuring a young, fine Gary Dourdan (he starred in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation). It's a personal favorite.
That song was in 1991 but it comes from her 1989 Rhythm Nation album spanning 3 years. React to THAT'S THE WAY LOVE GOES & IF, She's drop dead gorgeous!!!
This song was recorded in the late 80s but released early 90s. The Rhythm Nation era was so successful she was still releasing singles from it in '91 and they STILL went no1! It was a record breaking album. She is one of the G.O.A.T's. Love from the UK 🇬🇧
Agreed! Like Her Brother Michael, They Both 'Raised the Bar' for Excellence and Uniqueness in Their Music and Music Videos. Even the Lyrics to Janet's more serious songs like 'Black Cat' and 'State Of The World' still have the same meaning when applied to Today's World dealing with Gang Life, Drugs and Social Injustice. For 'Paws Here': 'Greetings from America'!
"That's The Way Love Goes" is another one I listened to endlessly back in the early 90's and is one of the introductions to "seductive" Janet. Janet was pretty amazing.
This is actually an 80's song, she wrote it in 1988 released in 1989 but it wasn't released as a single till 1991 only artist in history to have number one hits spanning three different calendar years from the same album "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814" released September 1989
That high note at the end was all her and through the whole song the vocals were all her to. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis layered her vocals in such away to make it sound like a choir. Janet is a amazing singer, dancer, artist and performer and songwriter and so much more.
LOVE JANET and that song is one of my favorites of her.. That video was made with the best collab, you could get back in the 90s.. male Supermodels, movie star and the top legend, photographer Herb Ritts...TOP
Seven top five hits from Rhythm Nation alone!! This was the seventh release and it made it to number one on the Hot 100 (in 1991) almost a year and half after the album was released (in late 1989)

this song was recorded in 1989 for her Rhythm Nation album, but it was released as the 4th single off the album in October 1990, so it's a 90s song made in the 80s. :) But this video, perhaps more than the song, was a turning point for Janet, emphasizing her sexiness and playfulness. Great video!
I couldn't hit play fast enough. One of my favorites from my Girl! The harmonies are amazing. Word is that this was to be a duet with Prince but it never panned out. This is Js coming out party as she got her sexy on . More Janet please. This is from the Rhythm Nation album

MTV played this ALL THE TIME. She'd just lost a bunch of weight and this was sort of her "reveal" of her new look. Great song, fun video.
You should check some songs from Janet Jackson's 1997 album "The Velvet Rope", especially "Got 'til It's Gone", because it became such a turning point in her artistic career. I guarantee you, it will definitely blow your mind.
Hands down one of my all-time favorite Janet songs and videos. I just never get tired of hearing it.
Try "Alright" and "All For You" next.
You should watch "Again" by Janet Jackson. It's a pretty love song featuring a young, fine Gary Dourdan (he starred in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation). It's a personal favorite.
That's the way love goes next👍✌
❤️
Janet was her most beautiful during this time an entire QUEEN.
"Miss You Much" and "Escapade"...sooooo many
This is actually an 80's song, she wrote it in 1988 released in 1989 but it wasn't released as a single till 1991 only artist in history to have number one hits spanning three different calendar years from the same album "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814" released September 1989
Please do "Black Cat" and "Feedback" from Janet
Watching this video back in the day is what triggered puberty for me.
That high note at the end was all her and through the whole song the vocals were all her to. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis layered her vocals in such away to make it sound like a choir. Janet is a amazing singer, dancer, artist and performer and songwriter and so much more.
Janet Jackson is Beautiful and so talented. I remember my friends and I would try to dance like her lol. XD
Holy I forgot this song. A classic! :)
Her song Let's wait awhile is great also
Awwww one of the most sweetest songs from Janet love watching this video 🔥👍
Good choice. Love Janet.
LOVE JANET and that song is one of my favorites of her.. That video was made with the best collab, you could get back in the 90s.. male Supermodels, movie star and the top legend, photographer Herb Ritts...TOP
She is really feeling herself in this video..this is a feel good song!!
I used to listen to this over and over. So good!
You can't help but fall in love with her watching that video.... she was just perfect
You know Rhythm Nation is ICONIC, when It has the #1 spot, on the Billboard Hot 100 in THREE consecutive calendar years!
Seven top five hits from Rhythm Nation alone!! This was the seventh release and it made it to number one on the Hot 100 (in 1991) almost a year and half after the album was released (in late 1989)
One of my favorite Janet Jackson songs and videos. She was getting her sexy on in this vid! She looks gorgeous! Thanks for the reaction! Stay safe!
✌🏻🙂✌🏻
this song was recorded in 1989 for her Rhythm Nation album, but it was released as the 4th single off the album in October 1990, so it's a 90s song made in the 80s. :) But this video, perhaps more than the song, was a turning point for Janet, emphasizing her sexiness and playfulness. Great video!
Her man back then was René Elizondo, but they kept it secret.
That's the way love goes or If...
These songs/video were the next releases after love will never do.
She's drop dead gorgeous in this. Go Janet, go Janet.👍😁🎶❤️
This is my FAVORITE Janet song!
This song is from her 1989 album Rhythm Nation album, but it was released 1990.
I couldn't hit play fast enough. One of my favorites from my Girl! The harmonies are amazing. Word is that this was to be a duet with Prince but it never panned out. This is Js coming out party as she got her sexy on . More Janet please. This is from the Rhythm Nation album
Of course she felt free, no dance choreography to remember and Rubbing up on Antonio Sabato Jr..... 🔥🔥
Janet has the most beautiful smile ⭐️
ruclips.net/video/Ui-TaOq2gEU/видео.html this is one of my fave videos on RUclips. No phones , everyone facing each other , dancing together , living in the moment ❤️
