  • William Tucker, born in 1624, is believed to be the first African born and baptized in what became the original 13 Colonies. His descendants - including Vince Tucker and Carolita Jones Cope - care for the family cemetery in Hampton to honor his legacy and the resilience of so many Africans brought to this country. As part of the 1619 celebrations, there will be a reflection program Aug. 23 at 9:30 a.m.

I TRACE MY FAMILYS ROOTS BACK TO THE SAME MAN, WILLIAM TUCKER. WE COME FROM CHASE CITY, VA. CHASE CITY IS IN A RURAL PART OF MECKLENBERG COUNTY. PLANTATION COUNTRY. I’VE BEEN DOING MY DUE DILIGENCE FOR AROUND A DECADE NOW, AND THIS SHOCKED ME AS WELL.

Documentation, DNA analysis and many hours of research leads me to believe my African DNA was here in America even earlier then the Tucker family in 1625... as far as we know our earliest known ancestor was a mixed Indigenous Indian and African who is definitely related to Pocahontas and the Rolfe family... my guess is that the Moors freely traveled back and forth from Africa to America for several hundred years. We are even related to the Tucker family as well... my family is basically 59% African, 40% European and 1% Native American. 1% means we had one full blooded Indian in our ancestry about 400 years ago.

Alot of Europeans and preeuropean Asians that came here had African DNA. The human race is more related than people would like us to believe. There is alot of political power in dividing people. I choose to believe that everyone is my relative in some way or another.

History is much more than we know at this point in time. Unfortunately historians and archeologist don't want to hear anything counter to the current storyline. One day I hope we can learn more and begin to see history as a human story that belongs to us all and is so diverse it begins to be pointless to assign history to specific regions of people

Capt Williams Tucker is my oldest known relative in north america. From what I have dug up on this story he and another ship attacked a portugese slave ship and took the Africans to North america where 2 became indentured servants on his plantation along with some 17 white indentured servants at the time. Slavery was not really a thing then and all servants had the same rights on Capt Williams Tuckers Plantation. William Tuckers parents Antoni and Isabella were allowed to marry which usually didn't occur among indentured servants. When capt Williams Tucker Died he left lands to William Tucker. I would so love to meet the Tucker Family in Va and learn more about what they have dug up on this history. I really hope that my positive view of the Tucker history is the reality even if it goes against what alot of people would like to paint as the historical narrative.
