Why are y’all arguing that teams aren’t running plays today? Why are y’all arguing that players in the 90s weren’t less skilled than players today?

    Since somehow my points consistently get misinterpreted for some weird reason. What i said was you dont need to watch live nba games to be a great nba player (kawhi is an example) nothing wrong with watching the nba theres also nothing wrong with not watching it (aslong as you are still watching film,preparing for teams correctly and show up and do your job etc)
    and in regards to the 3pt debate. i NEVER said nor implied midrange jumpers are bad ive in fact said the opposite on many occasions. i dont think i said anything ab midrange jumpers today . What i said was A)Teams shot worse 20 years ago than they do now and B) Teams run sets.
    In regards to the hornets and bulls point. my point was NOT the bulls and hornets had to change their playstyle to how they play this season because they sucked last year (to be honest idek how that could even have been interpreted that way) . my point was the bulls and hornets played completely differently last season and still werent good. and that was in response to someone saying 'and they wonder why they been trash all these years' so my point was they havent been trash cos of all these 3s since billy donovan has completely changed his system and charles lee has implemented something completely different to steve clifford and yet they still sucked before these changes. somehow this will still be misinterpreted looking forward to it.

      Not needing to be a 100% necessity for greatness doesn't mean fanatic behavior isn't linked to the highest examples of success. Which I think is the larger point that was being driven. There's never a singular way to be great but there is a pattern that forms generally speaking. And that link could bring intrinsic value even if it's not an intrinsic occurrence.

      @@drenchmansportsIt’s not like players just only play basketball during a day. There’s getting treatment, training sessions, practice, individual and team lifts, film sessions, etc. Then there’s media obligations, business and advertising events, family time, etc. If players are already dedicating most of their day to basketball and training then why do they need to watch a game live.

    • @drenchmansports

      @ because it’s called being a professional.. your just guessing what nba players do .. i KNOW.. i was around it for 5 years .. first off they BARELY even practice in the NBA any more and when they do it’s usually about 1-2 hours … I’ll give it a max 4 hours for all that stuff you just said.. no more than 4 hours of their day is dedicated to that stuff your talking about

    Jordan acts like plenty of former/current nba players, coaches, and GMs, wouldn’t agree with the takes Marz makes. Not every nba player to have ever lived would agree with the things you say man. That alone dismantles the whole “oh i played argument” because not all of them would agree with you anyways. Acts like he was a 10 year nba vet. That “didn’t play” argument is tired as hell at this point, its just brought out by people who cant use logic to backup their claims. Not saying hes wrong all the time but jesus man we get it you played a higher level of basketball congratulations. If every single player that played at a higher level than you wouldn’t always agree with you, then that point is absolutely mute.

      The current and some former gm’s , are guys that never played before either like Daryl Morey , which how they come up with this bs ass analytics.. and most PLAYERS from back then disagree with this style of play.. even guys like LEBRON disagree with all the 3’s being shot.. so does Steph. Or whoever .. the brand of basketball across all levels is BAD .. from NBA to Elementary. The reason why is because you got so many people who think that shooting 104 3’s in an nba game and only score 115 points while missing 75 of them is amazing basketball…. You know why? Because if you never played before you don’t realize that shooting an NBA 3 is far as hell!!! So when you going 1-9 like (Josh Giddey) you shouldn’t keep shooting , you should possibly get in closer and make a few to get you a better Rhythm so you can shoot the 3.. but if you never ever played before .. you can’t relate to that concept. Because you never lived it or witnessed it

    • @blitzandgoo
      @blitzandgoo 17 дней назад +2

      @@drenchmansports i wasn’t talking about the 3pt conversation specifically, but either way like i said there are plenty of former/current nba players who dont gaf and think its fine im sure. That alone defeats the point you’re trying to make here. They all have different opinions like everyone else on the planet. Your point of view isnt the viewpoint of every single nba player to ever play. Your really think every single nba player holds the same opinion as you? You really think you know better than NBA GMs too? They’re not wrong just because you disagree with them it doesn’t work like that. Its also ironic you diss the guys who never played that work for and around the nba, while in a different argument you said you need an mvp to be in the best in the world talks when plenty of guys who never played vote on the awards bro. You’re extremely biased, and thats fine honestly everyone has their bias. But to act like your word is law because you played ball when plenty of guys who played ball at a higher level than you would disagree with some of your takes simply lacks logic and objectivity. If yall get an nba player on yalls show and he disagrees with you are you going to shut up and say yes sir whenever he goes against one of your takes? Do you see how stupid that sounds?

    people please watch game 7 between the spurs and pistons. Count how many times a guard on either team has a drive to the basket and their own teammate cuts into their path fucking it up for them. Keep in mind the reason why the spurs came back in that game was because Pop took mohammed out the game and moved Horry to the 4 to have actual SPACING which lead to Duncan having that big 3rd quarter and opened up the paint for their cutters and manu and parker drives to the basket. The Pistons could have won that game if they didnt run so mich off ball action for Prince to shoot contested LONG 2s when he wasnt a good shooter to begin with.

      @upfulsoul826 the most noteworthy thing that happened in those Olympics was that the gold medal game was by 1 point. That's nowhere near the peak of what A'ja was doing in 2024. Nevertheless, that ain't got nothing to do with what Caitlin Clark did in 2024. As she played damn near 2x the basketball this year and broke way more records, along with being a magnetic force that drove eyes to the sport. There's no argument for any athlete across all sports to have had a more impressive year barring maybe Simone Biles in the Olympics.

    Back in the day players used to shoot contested mid range shots. Also the game wasnt crazy physical either. It was a lot of touch fouls like now. There is bad in every era I do my best to big up each era as I can because that’s what best for basketball imo. Yes the threes are annoying now but I think it will correct itself because that’s how stuff like this normally happens. We see it in the nfl now passing isnt as crazy as it was and the running backs are seen as useful

    So I agree with some of what Jordan and Marz was saying. I get what Marz saying but you're generating good/open shots but my question for you Marz is how many of those shots does a player have to miss before it's not considered a good shot anymore? For that game at least? I mean I understand a generational shooter like Steph, keep shooting. But if you're in the western conference finals and Ariza and Gordon keeps missing wouldn't you rather Harden take that one dribble and shoot a long 2 instead of making 'the right basketball play" and kicking out to shooters who couldnt throw it in the ocean?

    • @MarzTalksSports
      @MarzTalksSports 17 дней назад

      my point was these teams run sets to get threes. it was nothing about midrange vs threes im done having that conversation. but to answer that question i guess id ask a question,what if they take the step in and still miss anyway then what. taking a step in isnt a guaranteed make in fact it probably goes from like 38% chance from three to like 41% for most people so its marginal also the rockets didnt shoot 27 straight threes,they took layups and even some midrange shots they just went 0-27 during the game not 27 straight possessions. but sure they couldve shot more middies in that game i guess

      @MarzTalksSports I get that those are the ahits teams want. My issue is not that teams shoot a lot of 3's it's that when they aren't going in they just keep shooting them. It's like some of teams have nothing else they can do. Growing up watching ball they always used to say if your jumpsuit not falling drive to the basketball and try to get to the line so you can get in rhythm. And the reason I brought up Houston is because it was the same as watching OkC lose the the Bucks. Harden one of the greatest offense players we ever seen you gotta go downwith him. Isf if he shoot ever shit. That's better than going down with PJ Tucker and Ariza clanking 3's

    • @MarzTalksSports

    No one pointed out that the fg percentage is lower back in the day than it is now because the defense back in the day is better than it is today in don’t understand how that wasn’t talked about once and it doesn’t make sense if the defense is harder and the spacing isn’t nearly as big as it is today while the shot attempts are less the fg percentage will be less

    • @MarzTalksSports
      @MarzTalksSports 17 дней назад

      then i would counter that by simply saying 3pters bring down fg% a ton so the fact that a league that shoots 38 threes a game at 36% still has a higher fg% than a league that shoots 15 a game is even more concerning. if u wanna say defense was better then sure (we could have the conversation) but when the only reason i even brought up the fg% is when someone said 'they miss more shots now than they used to' that just simply wasnt true. so what ur saying just isnt really relevant to why the conversation started,but it would be an interesting conversation in its own right

    • @Jettahs
      @Jettahs 17 дней назад

      teams have to cover more space while being forced to be less physical and the average player is now more skilled. Its easier to play defense when the paint is constantly being congested with a big on each block and the corners not being utilized for spacing.
