Neither Apple or Remarkable are a business I have a stake in or care about. Personally I like the minimalist features of a remarkable, and when I had the Boox it just seemed like it was broken when I tried to think outside the box of how to use it. I’ve used both Android and iPad OS a lot. There are just some specific art apps on iPad OS you can’t get on Android. Like Affinity designer is something I use. And I do big 4k projects on Callipeg, I had to buy an M4 to chug through those, I don’t know how essentially a phone chip would chew through production files, that a computer chip sweats at. Saying that, remarkable doesn’t need to be Boox and iPad doesnt need to do what Android does, if those products exist.
I'm impressed with it, next gen features of a colour screen. Fantastic design. Should do well. I think it's priced well enough for the tech on offer plus a backlight at last.
100% getting this. I bought the ORIGINAL one less than six months before 2 came out, and I have FORCED myself to wait for the next iteration. I’m so excited for this (and getting the Folio, which didn’t work with the original).
My main question is this: will users be able to work offline and save their work to a USB-C flash drive? THOSE are the make-or-break questions. Many people work with highly confidential files that cannot be offloaded into the cloud, hence the concerns with working offline completely. In terms of the hardware, this new Remarkable Paper Pro is unbeatable.
I use for work, but never with confidential files. My employer would never allow flash drives, either. It’s still unbelievably helpful to organize meeting notes and task lists, then export to a work device for further confidential manipulation.
The official video has colours that are remarkably vibrant. Why don’t I think they will be like that in real life? Slick marketing. Looking forward to you getting one and showing what it’s really like.
It is on my wish list but at the moment I am still integrating the Remarkable 2 into my daily habits, would the back light be awesome and color, yes! But my use case hasn't quite got there yet. Want more information on the software side but this just became the top contender for a color e-ink device. Hopefully with the more powerful internals we get some software improvements, that to me is where Remarkable needs to standout more. Not necessarily go the Android play store route but some more integrations or options on the app side of things. Very excited to see this and can't wait to see how other e-ink makers respond.
Exactly ! Software related such as innovation, and roadmap that will prompt / appeal people to get it. It focused more on hardware instead little to none on software.
I’d been pondering for ages over a Remarkable 2 but knew waiting made sense. 100 day trial makws it a total no brainer. If you don’t like it in 3 months, a free return made me go and insta buy it. Fingers crossed
As someone who just discovered this market of E-ink devices and a RM2 owner for 5 months. I personally can’t see the point in getting this device for a colored screen and more storage. The back light would be very nice since I do like to read off the device but maybe if I had my remarkable for 2 or 3 years I’d consider the upgrade. But my RM2 is still fresh and new for me. But who knows maybe I’ll “accidentally” break it 😂 the device definitely looks promising and the features seem nice.
I cannot believe that, yet again, they have not included Bluetooth support. It seems truly unbelievably daft. Initially they claimed they would never support keyboards ("You don't understand our product's purpose") and then they added keyboard support but have yet to admit that many people want to use the keyboards they already love rather than switch to their substandard keyboard. I would suspect that if they ever offer Bluetooth support for keyboards they would see a substantial jump in sales from writers who want a distraction-free writing device.
Thanks for the fantastic reviews, so informative. I was not a remarkable guy, up to now and was definitely influenced by your review, to get the supernote 5X. I could not resist the temptation of having colors and a larger display, with light: that was exactly what I missed from my supernote. So I ordered it on the first day. I am truly curious to see how it performs against my supernote. My only question is whether I will be able to read kindle content, with ease. Thanks again for your lovely channel!
I ponder the market share for the Paper Pro. Is it just another bright shiny object? Will this just highlight the closed operating system...Helping or hurting the reMarkable 3? It does look like they gave it a substantial chassis. After a certain size, you cant get the rigidity you need with metal stampings. The industry obsession with being the thinnest -- egged on by social media influencers -- leads to devices that are more fragile.
Very interesting point. I agree with some of it. I think a lot of people will end up owning the remarkable 3 as well. And perhaps the next device will be the remarkable mini.
Is it going to be a sexy device? Absolutely. But the main question (as a consumer) they need to answer now is why I would purchase this instead of a Boox Note Go or iPad. Is color that important that I would pay almost double the price than a boox? Is e-ink that much better that I would opt for this instead of a tablet that offers much greater all-around functionality? As much as I would love to try it out but remarkable 2 seem to have some issues crop up past that 100 day mark so I'll be waiting to see what longer term reviewers say. Overall glad to see them back at it!
Hey! I'm hyped for mine to come in as I imagine everyone else is as well! Can you provide more insight into why you believe the Remarkable 3 might come out in the next year or so? Great video!
hi ! as I watched the Remarkable Company videos, and particularly the one about annotating books, it seems that they improved the way we can annotate pubs or pdfs ? I read a few weeks ago that this was not so good on the remarkable 2 because the pdf file was just a "layer" we could write on and the file was not modified at all ? Has this thing changed ? or am I wrong in my understanding ? best regards
As you mentioned at 1:50, will I need to ‘upgrade’ my storage with the monthly subscription. I’m still a bit new to understanding that, but I hope there won’t be an extra cost for storage on and offline.
Day 1 order for me even though I’ve recently bought the Remarkable 2. This is the colour device I’ve been looking for with the benefits of the ease of use of Remarkable along with the features that I love. I can’t wait!
I have spent the last weeks watching all of RUclips's e-note reviews, and now Remarkable releases this LITERALLY THE DAY AFTER I BOUGHT THE BOOX GO 10.3! 😮💨 How do you think that compares to the new remarkable? Should I return the Boox while I still can?
If it ran full Android with Google Play, this would be the perfect device for me. But at least, as you say, e-ink tablets tend to look like remarkable, so let's hope that we'll see an Android one soon.
Gallery 3, that's interesting considering the latency we have seen in other G3 based devices. Aa you've said, Remarkable tend to have a very high standard, so I am looking forward to how they'll tackle that.
I’ve been disappointed with my Supernote Nomad and have always been drawn to reMarkable, but was convinced the Supernote was the sneaky better buy… now, I’m not so sure I want to keep my Nomad anymore since I’ve pretty much stopped using it because of the issues it’s had.
Looks more like a ReMarkable 1, but a lot thinner. If the screen is all that's promised: color and front light, an upgrade from my RM2 would be well worth it.
I also placed my order due to their oustanding return policy. Once I returned remarkable 2, no questions asked. All I need is to link pages as I used to do on my supernote. As an alternative, I will create an interactive pdf file and use it to take my notes.
It's a very generous return policy. And that's certainly the way I used to work on the remarkable and it worked great for ages. I wonder if I will go back to that. :-)
Very tempted to order but will wait for some reviews first. I wonder if the screen will be as white and contrasty as the monochrome, as the kaleido 3 isn't great. Also how much gap is introduced by the front light as it's a bit distracting on the Scribe.
It's a very nice looking tablet. I don't like the Remarkable ecosystem though. I'll wait to see if Amazon will now come out with a color Kindle Scribe soon. That would be amazing.
Already ordered. I also have fake color from Boox (where black simply blocks out some baked in colors in the background). Having real E-Ink Color looks like it might finally be really real.
I'm intrigued by everything but the marker. Looking forward to seeing reviews on the device, for sure, but I don't believe it will be an insta-purchase for me.
One thing i didn't like is they didn't announce anything last week, like a heads up kinda notification. I bought remarkable 2 last week, i'm in college and wanted to grab one before class started. And now since i saw paper pro, i want that one. I ordered paper pro today and plan to return remarkable 2. I just wish they let us knew there was something coming up, since i was looking and waiting for about a month before i purchased remarkable 2.
Happened the same wih me, i purchased RM2 two weeks ago, I even asked to remarkable chat employee if they were going to release a new one, he said no, guess this has to do with marketing, good that RM offers a 100 day return policy
I could not pre-order it fast enough, I use the 2 as my go to device for the past year. backlight, color and faster response time, no brainer...except $$$ is a little steep.
I was planning to get the supernote a5x2 for my college notes but now this randomly comes out? What a surprise. Now i have another comparison to decide between. Remarkable paper pro or supernote a5x2.
I would love a large format (A4) colour device for making notes on PDFs of floor plans for my job as an Engineer. But after a cyber security issue that may or may-not have involved my Boox Tab-X, which runs Android 11, I may have to move to a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. Quite galling as I'm a long time fan of e-ink.
From the way you worded that, it sounds like the gap between the display and surface is only better than the Remarkable 1, but worse than Remarkable 2? Is that right? I've only owned the RM2, so I wouldn't have a reference for what that's like.
Thanks for your video. I've been thinking about acquiring my first e-ink tablet for quite some time... Will wait for some reviews before pulling the trigger. However, still find the RAM and CPU mediocre for a 2025+ device!
Hmm. I proved one out with the Marker Plus and a matte folio at $820. And it has no apps. I'll wait for the reviews. Also, Boox will likely come out with a new color device this fall.
Hello, I'm new to your channel. Subscribing now. I am new to the e-ink tablet world and trying to explore my options. I was waiting for the Supernote A5X 2, but I haven't heard any new updates on the release. When I emailed them, they said they didn't have a definitive release date yet. I need something for a calendar/planner, and plenty of note taking for studying, also just making day to day lists. Should I look at getting the reMarkable device in this video or would you suggest the Supernote based on what I'd use it for? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
Hiya, the only thing I think you'd miss on the remarkable would be an interactive calendar. Supernote has the more sophisticated software, but remarkable do have a track record of continuous improvement of their software, albeit in a ponderous fashion! I think it'll come down to whether the colour appeals more than a delightful notebook which is what the supernote will be!
Looking through all their promotional videos I see no examples of something like a full color magazine article (or manga)) (Almost like they were avoiding it ?) . Color annotation is a nice to have but I'm still waiting for something that can act as a remarkable + manga reader which means android so i can install Shonen jump. Till then I'll stick with remarkable 2 for note taking.
I have had my reMarkable 2 since February of 2023 and it goes with me everywhere! Now I'm wondering, what will the used market be like for these "older" versions once more people replace/upgrade their earlier reMarkable versions with the Paper Pro? Can the devices be "cleaned" while still maintaining the files via the Connect platform for the original owner? What will the transfer process be like?
Depending on how much you think or want to have for it ofcourse, the RM3 or Pro is quite expensive .... I ordered one while watching the presentation and yeah it was expensive ... think I had to pay like 1000 usd for it and then I did not take the keyboard option even. So I would think that the price for a new RM3/Pro is not going to fall good for most people and then the RM2 will be quite a catch even that it does not have colors or back-light ... I do have the RM1 and RM2 still myself tough. Use it for taking notes, some writing and sketching even ... and I think I will continue to use it for that with the new one as well.
Yeah, I have given away my RM1 and it was as simple as factory resetting it and logging into the new one. All my files came down, including my grandfathered connect subscription.
In printing there is three color and four color. Three color for when you didn't need the color depth (getting that depth from the black ink not worth the cost).
Ah, interesting. Yes, so I guess it will have that three colour look. I have a printer that does a pass of K at the end, and I'm always surprised at how little that changes things.
the chin i think is not good. the offset side bezel is highly functional for holding devices like this naturally, and it looks much better when in landscape too. the bottom bezel is not more fucntional in portait, not more functional in landscape, and not better looking in landscape
Yeah, they need to get into more mainstream retailers. I think that best buy have them in the states. And Currys had the RM2 in the UK, whether they will be carrying this one is another question.
I have some questions: 1) I would be interested in if it is possible to plug in an USB via otg and it will be supported 2) When I use one note, do i have to download it like on the remarkable 2 or will it sync directlly like on the boox? 3) does it have a split screen? 4) is the frontlight neccessary? i bought the Boox go 10.3 because of your reviews, 1 week ago because I did not like the price and the specs from remarkable 2... but now it has more storage, bigger size and color 🥺😔.
Can I sync all my documents from Remarkable 2? I’m assuming yes, but would love a definitive answer before I continue considering an upgrade. Can’t find this anywhere on the website. Also curious if the wear rate on the pen tips is any better.
@@metilaful yeah you can, well, you certainly did when you moved from rM1 to 2. I'm not totally sure if this will happen without the connect account. But I would be shocked if it didn't.... I'd make a whole RAGE video about it TBH. 🙂
When your right palm with a pen is resting on a screen, can you switch tools with another hand's finger while your right hand is in contact with the screen? iPad can do this. Samsung S9 ultra cannot do this. Onyx Boox cannot do this.
"It should be a really nice way to read colour documents". - Interestingly this isn't showcased at all in the promo videos though, which makes me suspicious.

Nice review, kudos! 👍🏻 I think one of the advantages of remarkable is just to keep you distraction-free from all the other superbright and saturated LED/OLED displays. Bringing in colours is cool, but on the other hand it moves towards the cluttered visual experience. It’s hard to decide yet 😇

To limiting, not being android OP system, what a shame, and as you said its underpowered. These will never have a big market until they can match the speed of an LCD/OELD tablet with android, IOS or Windows.
I just order one. I‘m one of the guys who pre-ordered the remarkable one. But now I‘m quite exited to get the latest one.
Yeah, awesome, in it FTW. :-)
I'm impressed with it, next gen features of a colour screen. Fantastic design. Should do well. I think it's priced well enough for the tech on offer plus a backlight at last.
The design is swish yeah, can't wait to see how well they have controlled the e-ink screen. Looking forward to producing the content for you all.
Finally a lovely big e-ink screen in color 🤩 instant order
Boox note air 3c vs this .which you like more.since they both aim for writing
@@evilphuk the biggest feature I want is screen mirroring on Android, I would like the mobile app to gain parity with the PC software.
I’ve been waiting patiently for this since I preordered remarkable 2. I bought it without second thought (and I don’t normally rush to buy things)
Snap ordered on day 1, also sent my RM2 back on the 100th day so overall can’t wait for new one to arrive
I’m still a bit new to understanding that, but I hope there won’t be an extra cost for storage on and offline.
absolutely huge, i came here right away to see KITT the GOAT's response
Day 1 order for me even though I’ve recently bought the Remarkable 2. This is the colour device I’ve been looking for with the benefits of the ease of use of Remarkable along with the features that I love. I can’t wait!
Same for me. It’s everything I wanted from the Remarkable 2. Now I can finally get rid of my iPad.
Exciting times.
It could be absolutely amazing!
Yeah, it is intriguing to say the least.
Ordered it halfway through yesterday’s live event. However opted out of the keyboard since I rarely use the keyboard on my R2.
The only thing is that desktop app should work with linux through wine. Latest version is not compatible anymore.
That's a shame. I wonder what changed!?
Yeah, it could be ace!
I'm intrigued by everything but the marker. Looking forward to seeing reviews on the device, for sure, but I don't believe it will be an insta-purchase for me.
I think that is the sensible decision TBH. ___ must resist the hype! ___
This is my dream notebook. It’s just that price. I’ll make it work eventually though
Yep, day one order for me. Can't wait start playing with it 🙂
Ditto!
I was planning to get the supernote a5x2 for my college notes but now this randomly comes out? What a surprise. Now i have another comparison to decide between. Remarkable paper pro or supernote a5x2.
I know, the analysis paralysis lives on!
I envy your hair. You got such a nice hair!
Cheers!
Seriously. Dude has the hair of a 17 year old.
No, smaller than remarkable 2 amazingly! (People are saying the front light isn't brilliant.)
I was wondering if they are going to let us use our connect subscription from reMarkable to for their new device? What do you think?
Yeah, I certainly hope so. I don't see any reason why they'd change that for this launch.
Thanks for your video. I've been thinking about acquiring my first e-ink tablet for quite some time... Will wait for some reviews before pulling the trigger. However, still find the RAM and CPU mediocre for a 2025+ device!
It's weird ins't it, because they are so behind the times specs. It can't cost them too much to pop a more up to date SoC in!
@@KitBetts-Masters Maybe it is a trade-off to hit the 2 weeks battery life.
Do you think is better than the Viwoods Ai?
I hope they allow a trade-in so that I can upgrade my remarkable 2 to this new pro.
Would love to see the review between this and the Boox Note Air 3C, with colour clarity, latency and if it will look more like Newspaper colours.
Oooohh, feel like we'll need a few side by side comparisons TBH!
Hmm. I proved one out with the Marker Plus and a matte folio at $820. And it has no apps. I'll wait for the reviews. Also, Boox will likely come out with a new color device this fall.
Of course they would release a new version within weeks of my buying the previous one (remarkable 2).
I’d argue that this is definitely taking some design cues from supernote
Why will they not show a page turn in an ePub or PDF in any marketing material.
Why are they sticking with 2gb of ram? Such an odd oversight, I feel like that will age the device significantly.
Do you think that this pro version would be almost as good as Boox tab X in terms of reading academic documents?
Looking through all their promotional videos I see no examples of something like a full color magazine article (or manga)) (Almost like they were avoiding it ?) . Color annotation is a nice to have but I'm still waiting for something that can act as a remarkable + manga reader which means android so i can install Shonen jump. Till then I'll stick with remarkable 2 for note taking.
I have R2. Do they give a discount on Buyback of older model like Apple?
@@KitBetts-Masters With offset printing it makes a considerable difference.
I still have the very 1st Remarkable back from their Kick Starter....... Maybe the time has com.
the chin i think is not good. the offset side bezel is highly functional for holding devices like this naturally, and it looks much better when in landscape too. the bottom bezel is not more fucntional in portait, not more functional in landscape, and not better looking in landscape
They are selling the 2 on Amazon now so once the 3 is there it will be worth a go
Yeah, they need to get into more mainstream retailers. I think that best buy have them in the states. And Currys had the RM2 in the UK, whether they will be carrying this one is another question.
I have some questions:
1) I would be interested in if it is possible to plug in an USB via otg and it will be supported
2) When I use one note, do i have to download it like on the remarkable 2 or will it sync directlly like on the boox?
3) does it have a split screen?
4) is the frontlight neccessary? i bought the Boox go 10.3 because of your reviews, 1 week ago because I did not like the price and the specs from remarkable 2... but now it has more storage, bigger size and color 🥺😔.
My concern is if this will be like Boox Air 3c color and really hard to read even on a dark-ish room unless you turn on the front light.
Also... I just ordered.
I think that there were a few times when they showed annotating PDFs weren't there?
Yes you’re right but very brief. I thought it would feature more to show off the quality of the new colour screen. Im probably reading too much into it as of course their focus is writing experience. Excited to find out soon!
I really would like to buy the Pro version now but I have to wait if Santa bring one :)
Good shout. I hear that they have a good relationship with the elves at the north pole!
I bought my remarkable 2 last year. So a bit disappointed that i won't get to enjoy brightness and colour features in mine..😢
Yeah, it's always a pain point buying a device and not knowing whether the newer version is imminent. Remember that you still have a great tablet there and try and love the one you are with! :-)
Did you get any pre-release information before today's announcement? Looking forward to your review on this once you get one.
Yeah, monday evening, so pretty quick turnaround! They play their hands close to their chest!
@@KitBetts-Masters Nice. I have just ordered one, with the type folio. It's a bit pricey but with going back to Uni in a few weeks, it could be useful. The RM2 helped me through my degree. I didn't see your affiliate link until after I ordered it, sorry! Love your channel though.
I am curious. Does it replace my boox tab ultra c pro?
Will remarkable 2 owners be able to have an 'upgrade price'? Sort of sucks that I only got an R2 a few months back then they release this. I got the pro pen and type folio too and now not only is there a new device but a new pen and type folio
There doesn't seem to be an offer of that now, but I think that would be a very popular decision. I'll bet that they will easily sell out the ones that they have available right away and that you will maybe find deals like that in January.
Exactly what I want. I bought it already
Wish you joy of it.
Anyone still holding on for the A5x2?
Nice review, kudos! 👍🏻 I think one of the advantages of remarkable is just to keep you distraction-free from all the other superbright and saturated LED/OLED displays. Bringing in colours is cool, but on the other hand it moves towards the cluttered visual experience. It’s hard to decide yet 😇
Yeah, no reason not to wait for the full reviews really. There are a few more hands on videos now, but sponsored.
Wow, that was fast.
Yeah, we got a shout from them on Monday night. Spent yesterday writing, filming editing this. Hope you all enjoyed it. :-)
Possible elephant in the room is gonna be the battery.
@@davidrussell9662 yeah, in the tech edit review I shared in my community tab earlier, he said that the battery was more like days then weeks when using the light!
Does it have an infinite canvas?
I just need them to add handwriting searching
That would be very useful. :-)
Hopefully the remarkable2 now goes on sale
They plan to keep offering that, but I imagine you'll see a reduced price over the coming year and then, sell them off in preparedness for the RM3 one day!
What’s the colour resolution?
Needs 512gb storage to be a pro. Beautiful but useless to me. How much would extra storage cost compared to the dev costs of that screen? Almost nothing.
Is there an upgrade path?
That would be a good thing for them to do, yep, go ahead and give you a part exchange for your RM2. I haven't seen that option, but it would make a lot of sense.
@@KitBetts-Masters would like this too since I just got my rM2 in May... wish I had waited but for the short time, it has changed my life. For the colour and lighting, it is worth it!
@@KitBetts-Masters Yeah I'm not getting one otherwise.
Stylus not compatible with ANY third party
I suppose it was too much to hope for Kindle books on the Remarkable Pro but it means, yet again, I wont be buying one… its a big hike in price though 🏴
Yeah, I talk about this locked down ecosystem mentality in the livestream that I did today as well. Kind thanks for your comment.
To limiting, not being android OP system, what a shame, and as you said its underpowered. These will never have a big market until they can match the speed of an LCD/OELD tablet with android, IOS or Windows. But the decent colour is finally here and personally, should have gone the e reader way first, which would be more successful. Think the New Kindles will be Gallery 3
Agree, and will look forward to seeing the kindles and things with this screen in in the future. I am imagining that I will miss a lot of what I love about the full android devices that I use.
Many of us are SO glad to not have android in rM but rather a hackable and durable linux-based OS
@Earthnatural from the first review I have seen, does not do much or many features, so extremely limited. They should have released it as an e reader, and would sell more
@@dennisrogers6786 For many, including myself, the "lack" of features is a huge feature. I understand that many don't get it. We could debate if some things should be added but it will never be a SN or Boox. And reMarkable makes no sense as a reader, nobody would get it just for that. It is a writing, thought-inspiring tool, what people buy it for, and the reason they just cannot stand the SN and Book UIs and feature bloat and bugs.
I want one.
The only problem is my monochrome mind.
I wonder if I will be able to copy parts of pdfs (pictures etc) to notes, that's something that I would really appreciate
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that you can screen grab. And copy and move image files around.
@@KitBetts-Masters really? I couldn't find this info on the website or in the presentation ( it's not possible in rm2) 😢
