    If you still wanna try limiting your framerate, but don't wanna use RTSS, you can use Nvidia's Max Frame Rate feature inside the control panel.

    • @e1g2a3n4
      @e1g2a3n4 2 года назад +10

      Do NOT use external framerate limiters for games, there is a massive input latency penalty. If you cant feel the difference, there are most likely bigger sources of input lag on your system. It's much easier to feel the difference from 10ms -> 8ms of input latency than rather 30ms -> 28ms. Unfortunately CS:GO's framerate limiter is not good at delivering consistent frametimes, otherwise it would be optimal to cap framerate at a multiple of your monitor's refresh rate for smoothness & responsiveness.

    • @wallC_main

      Which causes input lag... If you should cover something like this and come with recommendations, I think you should take that into account.

      @@e1g2a3n4 however RTSS is the best external limiter according to battlenonsense.
      Oh and a multiple sounds about right, I believed that for years myself but the only benefit would be screen tearing, which will still occur. Only Vsync would eliminate that or a limited Gsync within refresh.
      You could set it a little above your 1% low so you minimize the delta between the dips but that's about it.
      And personally I choose limits of 24*x as 24 is the standard in animation. But there's no real benefit.

    Your testing only applies properly to CPU limited setups. Limiting the framerate just below what you can achieve normally decreases latency on a GPU limited setup, as it isn't always catching up to older frames in the CPU buffer (which is running ahead of the GPU). It's worth retesting with different hardware, if you can.

    • @SamuraiJr
      @SamuraiJr Год назад +4

      That is not how frames work, if your GPU is rendering frames slower than your CPU it still won't benefit from limiting the FPS. That's just not how framerates work, and the FPS you will achieve is based of CPU and GPU rendering together not a singular. Therefore it will still load the frames faster uncapped.

  • @ShakkN

    Higher fps = lower input lag, but we are forgetting about consistent input lag. If I take a gun fight at 600 fps vs a gun fight at 300 fps, the input lag is very different. After a certain point high fps just leads to diminishing returns. It’s more about do I want consistent input lag, which is why people cap their fps.

    • @majkooll
      @majkooll 2 года назад +4

      True.
      Uncapped = tearing and stutters = best and not stable input lag = mouse/crosshair synchro not stable
      GSYNC + VSYNC + ULLM = no tearing and stutters = not bad and stable input lag if >=240fps = mouse/crosshair synchro stable = best for muscle memory
      You decide.
      We should ask what is the most important thing to set for a better gaming in CSGO: no tearing or maybe best input lag or mouse/crosshair synchro

    • @MrMaxim
      @MrMaxim  2 года назад +10

      I don't think you have fully realized the deviation of frametimes as explained here: 01:44
      Basically, the deviation between 2.22 ms (450 FPS) and 3.70 ms (270 FPS) is 1.48 ms. Which is why it's misleading to compare framerates 450 and 270 and also why it helps to look at frametimes. 3.70, 2.22 and 1.48 ms are so low values that you might as well reach for the fastest values possible.
      So by capping your framerate to 300 you're no longer allowing anything faster than 3.33 ms, which means you are now losing the potential of reaching frames as fast as 2.22 ms (450 FPS). I hope this helps see things more clearly.

    3:40 Although, CS:GO is unoptimised in one major way... It runs on the Source Engine, but one of the most primary optimisation features in this engine is disabled for CS:GO specifically, and that's LOD models.
    Models do not change their LODs and there are no LODs in the game because it'd affect the visibility of players at different distances away from the model. So whilst from your perspective you could be completely concealed behind a model, another player's perspective where the model is a different shape due to reduced geometry could expose you.
    The only type of "LOD" that is supported in CS:GO is fading the model out, where the engine doesn't render it any longer beyond a predefined distance in units.
    Great video by the way, well researched and factual! :D

      Hello, I want to help and clarify something for every CSGO streamer!
      I have the Ryzen 9 5900X and I was having high input lag for two months! After I tried many, but many things, locking fps and lots of other stuff, I found at the end that the launch option -allow third party software was making me the input lag!! I removed it and now I am playing on fps_max 0 with 400-1100 FPS and everything feels so smooth, drastically improved, no input lag at all even when the fps drops. The stream works without that launch command aswell. I just wanted to let everyone know because I was suffering two months because of that launch input command thinking the stream wouldn‘t work without it.
      Enjoy

    I guess when people are thinking about capping FPS or not, they have to evaluate their hardware a bit. Capping your FPS only really seems to make sense when you have a really high end machine that gets well over 400 FPS

    My laptop is a Lenovo Y520, it has an I7 6th gen I think, not sure, a GTX1050 and 8GB of ram, when I got it I used to get around 150fps, now I can only play with the game capped at 90, if I try to go over that for even 1fps I'll have FPS drops to 30fps for a few seconds every minute, it is unplayable, idk how I got to locking it at 90, it just works, which is weird cus my desktop runs the game at 150 with 16GB of ram, an i5 4th gen and a 750TI, it is just a better experience that my laptop even though the specs aren't as good, i have had tons of issues with the laptop, and I don't think I am buying anything from Lenovo so soon, especially gaming laptops, it still runs other stuff better than my desktop, like GTA and Apex which the desktop can't handle, but for CS I would take my weaker setup anytime, it's weird but at least I can average from 130 to 150fps there

    I cap mine and I will keep capping it at 400 because during a gunfight nobody is getting 400+ fps lets just be real.. So by uncapping I will only get 600+ fps in spawns or when it doesn't matter, just letting my pc work harder for no reason. Capping your fps drastically lowers temps and loads on cpu/gpu. On cs it's not a huge deal but for most games it is.

    as someone who worked for big IT company's and 12 years of experience, it's pretty much never a good idea to let any program have unlimited frames
    even fps_max 999 is better as fps_max 0
    just look at your highest fps and cap it 100 fps higher or better lets say you get max. 500 fps and use a 144hz monitor multiply your hz number so you get a number over 500 fps for example 144 x 4 = fps_max 576

    If you use G-Sync on a 144hz monitor and you enable V-Sync in nvidia control panel for cs go, trust me it is very smooth. Okay, it caps your framerate at your monitor's max framerate, but constant 144 framerate is perfect for cs go , you get no stuttering at all and no fps drops. Just try it , for me the game is so much smoother with these settings than without it because if you use normal settings , fps can drop and you also get stuttering or lag at times , which it's very annoying.

    • @majkooll
      @majkooll 2 года назад +1

      True and you decide what is better for you no tearing/stuttering or best but not stable input lag.
      I'm also using G-SYNC + V-SYNC and LLM Ultra to cap the fps. I have stable 3.7ms framerate and game is so smooth and in the same time I'm not torturing my pc.

    • @GamingSKillZone
      @GamingSKillZone 2 года назад

      @@majkooll these are my settings too. And another beautiful thing is that you can even increase your in-game resolution so you can see clearly if you got a decent GPU and still it doesn't affect the smoothness, which its just awesome and I think its already an advantage over those who use the other setttings.

    • @sety5591
      @sety5591 2 года назад

      there's still possible benefit to capping fps in low end PC, because the game engine compute at 64 frame per second you can make the screen matches the game engine by capping to 64fps (or if you can't achieve 64fps you can use a multiple of 64 like 32fps or 16fps). The benefit of matching your low-end PC's fps to a multiple of game engine's frame rate (eg: 64 or 128) is that you reduce wasteful interpolation on your GPU, and ensure at least a consistent latency between what you see and your action.
