Indeed old is gold. As young boys we listened to this record without understanding the lyrics as Swahili was/is poorly spoken in Uganda. We would substitute the wordings with our local dialect hum and dance away. I studied in Kenya in the 1990s and with my improved Swahili, I appreciate this hit expressed all the love for Hadija. Its very piercing and nostalgic indeed!. Other memorable records are Mlofa moja by Daudi Kabaka, Elizabeth wangu by John Zenze - Great Kenyan musicians of yesteryears!
One of the sweet songs of the early 1970s, at least I heard it play on my dad's radio about 1973 in Chipata those old days. Whenever it plays nowadays, it just reminds me of my late parents who really loved the song too.
Namkumbuka marehemu mama yangu, alikuwa akiuimba wimbo huu kila siku ,nikitoka shule namkuta mama akiimba wimbo huu ,basi na mimi nikawa pia naupenda, na nimerurahi leo kuusikia wimbo huu una kumbukumbu isiyosahaulika kwa mama yangu kipenzi. 20.02.24.
What a wonderful music !!! We really missed those great musicians to date. I was just such a young boy beginning primary school when this music was played at home throughout as I grew up and went deep in my heart, now reminds me so much and makes me reflect back those day how I grew up.
