A fitting mantra for sure. The obstacle: buying a piece of raw land 750 miles from where we live (a rental, we've rented our entire lives) and building a home with my own hands. The Way: The mental challenge was the hardest part asking myself "What are you thinking?" There is only one way. Hard work, determination, perserverance and a belief that "Yes, I can do this". It's now five years since I made that commitment. I raised our Timber Frame Mountain Cabin frame last October and put the roof on in May (all from lumber I milled myself). Just dogged determination and to top it off? I am having the time of my life (I'm 65). What an adventure and I'm sharing it with those I love. My two sons, their families and my wife. It doesn't get any better.
I just got it on audible. Might I add your voice in the narration is excellent, like green lights and 12 rules for life. I really appreciate it when the author reads their own books. Nice one
For me, listening to philosophical books or any other on Audible at work has been life changing. I've listened to many of them multiple times that I never likely would have sat down to read in text. At least not the first time through. Hearing authors like Ryan or Donald Robertson reading their own works is sometimes a really nice bonus.

@Higher Image Status it's an autobiography by Matthew McConaughey. It's not exactly high level philosophy, but he does have some interesting anecdotes about tripping on ecstasy drifting down the Amazon after having a wet dream persuading him to go there. His life is just interesting, and he tells it well

Finished this book a few days ago. And I must say, it's one of the best books I've ever read in my entire life. It's extremely good. Now, I've started Ego is the Enemy. Hope it's going to be as good as this.
I own the hard copy and have listened to the audio version on Audible at least 8 times (yesterday on a 5 hour road trip was most recent). I also have Ego Is The Enemy and Stillness Is The Key but The Obstacle is my go to when I need to overcome those things that are beyond my regular arsenal. Listening to it calms me instantly and it never takes long before I have my perspective back. I have no doubt I will have a good deal of the book memorized at some point as I know I will continue to go back to it. I carry the box set of the 3 around with me as well as The Daily Stoic Meditations and refer to them daily.

The Ancient Stoics came in the Silver Age of Philosophy not the Golden . I have doubts. What if it is water that is thrown onto your fire? That's no fuel. I know people who have horrible health conditions and constant pain. These obstacles are real. How do Stoics put a positive spin on this?
