And Colleen O'Shaugnessey as Tails is a mixed bag. Sometimes she's fine, some other times she's as insufferable as a nail on a board.

The 4Kids cast doing pretty great, especially Jason, a fantastic soundtrack, overall improvement from Secret Rings, a really good story and great characterization of Sonic, the last actual time we got to play as other characters. This really was the Nadir of the Adventure Era of Sonic.

Black Knight was the last hurrah for the Sonic Series before the start of what would become the worst decade of Sonic's Career. The actual fans never wanted this 2010s direction for the series, it was all dumb critics who didn't understand the series that Sega & Sonic Team were pandering to. It's really sad that those terrible decisions were made for the 2010s decade & still haunt the series to this day.

Unholy Opinion: Sonic Characters are more interesting than Mario characters.
I love Mario, but I agree with you. The series only really has one interesting character, but you won't even be aware of this if you don't do this completely optional sidequest that explains her backstory, one that will be probably never be addressed again.
Oh, absolutely. Sonic is a mess in terms of story and whatnot, but it really does have a lot of characters and sometimes they turn out pretty interesting. Mario wasn't supposed to have an interesting story. Very few Mario games actually go for an interesting story.

“Fist Bump” to me feels the most anime-like theme in awhile for a Sonic game. I actually loved the soundtrack more than “Sonic Forces” story and gameplay itself.

I dont share that opinion. None of the songs are memorable to me. The Null Space version of fist bump is okay as is the 1st level. But there isn't a single track in the game I would listen to on my own time.

Shadow's Story is honestly the best story in 06.
Also on the matter of story. That isn't really an unpopular opinion. If anything, it seems like people are pretty critical when it comes with the newer stories. I'm unsatisfied with the new writing and SEGA's bizarre mandates, but I don't think that "seriousness" is what the series needs. What it needs is someone who actually gives a shit.
Idk if you meant it was a better story than Sonic's and Silver's, or something, but it had more info to the game, like the main enemy, Mephiles and his goal. But again, I prefer playing his episode than the both of them because I can't stand Sonic's Mach speed section, and Silver's limited flight.
@@johnjohn_2610 In the sense that Shadow's Story is the best characterization of Shadow (other than Archie of course). Sonic's story is alright, I'm not as much of a jackoff with Sonic and Elise as everyone else is (I think they're alright), and I'm still thinking over Silver's story.
If anything, I don’t think it should matter if the games use a serious story or not. As long as the story itself is well-written and enjoyable, then it’s fine. You have other franchises that are also normally light-hearted and innocent who literally have the same tendency as Sonic of occasionally transitioning from light-hearted to serious, so Sonic shouldn’t be an exception for doing the exact same concept that many other popular franchises do. It makes this whole debate about “Should Sonic have serious or light-hearted stories?” become dumb and pointless because that shouldn’t really matter. What should matter is how the story and characters are written and if the writing of later stories don’t contradict previous ones. And you’re right about the last sentence. The series, in terms of story and character writing, does desperately need someone who gives a shit about how it’s handled in terms of continuity.
I think people have confused "serious" story with an "engaging" one. SA2, unleashed, Black Knight and parts of 06 had engaging stories. The big issue with Colours onward is that it never feels like the characters give a shit about what's happening and therefore the audience can't give a shit. But what do you expect of the writers of Happy Tree friends of all things?
@Siper Sonic's Story isn't really "copying Mario's homework", it's more or so bring back an idea they had for Sonic 1. I don't mind Silver falling for Mephiles's plan given the fact that he's from a dystopian future (and had ideas of what's right or wrong). For Amy, I don't think her "choosing the world" line was taken literally. She's trying to demonstrate to Silver that Sonic couldn't have destroyed his world (that and I guess foreshadowing to Blaze's Sacrifice). Yes, Blaze being there is kinda weird and I think the writers just put her in because Silver needed someone to bounce off from (without considering if it made sense to the grand scheme of things). But Blaze is Blaze I guess.
My Unpopular Opinions:
1. Silver is the best character
2. Chosen One from Shadow the Hedgehog is the best track in the game
3. Black Knight and Secret Rings's stories are underrated

Silver isn’t necessarily my favorite character (it’s Shadow) but I always loved Silver. When I first played Sonic 06 as a 6 year old I was shocked to see this new hedgehog character. His powers are def one of the coolest

Chosen one is still in my playlist, as is Waking up, and Never turn back (I loved the Piano opening btw).
Silver is honestly a pretty good slate to work with, and highly developed. I wish they used him more and wrote better overall plots for em. Hell, a hack and slash game for him would be well worth the rings.
I personally enjoyed the mind fuckery that was Shadow the Hedgehogs story, and unraveling it all from itself to figure out the ending was really fun. Plus the splitting narrative was interesting to play with.
Personally, my favorite characters range depending on the game. I liked older Knux, he was mature in a good way whilst still having charm. Shadow is fun for moral and ethical questions. Tails is nerdy and I just like it. Amy explores what love actually means (STILL waiting for her character to develop some and she actually can have some story again.) Eggman is a fun villain. Sonic is...well Sonic, he’s awesome in a myriad of ways, plus he’s the core of the franchise. Blaze is underused and poorly utilized. Cream is adorable, and Big could be a hilarious wall breaker character with some work. And Rouge always exhumed a sort of cocky arrogance that was brilliant to listen to. And Omega was a brilliant robot, wish they’d do him more like his Hero’s version, less hydraulics, gritty voice that doesn’t sound like Hal or stock robot, and faster movement. His cutscenes need more flow.
SBK and SSR are indeed underrated, such good games.

I also prefer story over gameplay. I just love how the characters interact with each other and the environment. Also, I love when character face their inner demons that can help them grow or break them apart.

"Roger Craig Smith is the best sonic voice" FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES WITH MEEE!!
I'm going to go for a really spicy take when I say that I feel like Black Knight has probably the best interpretation of Sonic's character. The whole story has him actually evolve as a character when he starts learning what it means to be a knight, except he does it his own way. Eventually, when it gets to the end, he ends up telling the Knights of the Round Table his interpretation on what it means to be a knight based off his own time in Camelot. When he confronts Merlina, he's totally fine admitting that he's probably the villain in the story with him wanting the world to eventually end, but he does it because his character is one that lives the life he has to the fullest with its ups and downs, and that's what he believes life is about, rather than wanting it to essentially remain in the stasis that Merlina wanted. It's a nuanced take on his free spirit character that I don't feel is touched upon all that well in other games, especially the new ones where he does almost nothing but crack wise.
Honestly, if it had better gameplay, I'd say that Black Knight would be a contender for best Sonic game. Alas, that's not the case, so it's destined to wander around in the middle of the pack with the likes of Heroes.

I really do love that game, and yea imagine it on switch with better controls and an option to not use motion controls... it would be the best sonic game imo for sure
I don't get the idea that the setting and premise is weird for Sonic. I think it makes absolute sense. For one, old cartoon characters were frequently placed in outlandish settings they didn't for in to in order to bring out their unique personalities. Secondly Sonic is all about freedom, and medieval times were the embodiment of everything that freedom isn't. Sonic giving a thumbs up to the idea of battling a delusioned follower is eventually proven right with the false king twist.
Literally everything about the Storybook series outside of the actual gameplay is Sonic at it's absolute finest. And even then, once you get acclimated to the controls, the gameplay becomes largely inoffensive(Aside from the hardcore wanking that Alf Layla Wa Layla puts you through). Had Secret Rings not been made as a stopgap for the Wii to 06's detriment, I'm sure that both games could have been the exhilarating re-introduction of Sonic the Hedgehog to the new generation that Sega originally intended them to be.

Honestly, I was kinda shocked when I first heard Roger voicing sonic in colors. I don't have a problem with the voice, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be Jason Griffith primarily because it was the first one I heard.

I like Jason's sonic voice because it sounded more mature and levelheaded in a way that i found to be pretty fitting for the games that jason voiced sonic in. Although i can see how the comedic and dramatic direction is a bit more accurate to sonic's personality like how Roger voices him. By no means do i dislike any of the voice actors though

The only times i'd dislike it is when she does the "I'm a woman" crap. And only liked that bit when it was done for the Knuckles joke. But yes, i like the not at all "googoo over sonic" Amy that Boom did.

I am saying that this is actually a VERY popular opinion - the unpopular opinion is that Sonic Advance 3 has bad level design. I've only seen two people in my life (other then me) say that, while everyone else didn't know what SAdvance 3 is or at least liked it.

I agree as well. I do think it could’ve been written better and it could’ve been a longer game, but I like Sonic Forces because I enjoyed playing it from beginning to end. I think that matters the most in games: the level of enjoyment.
marcossonicracer yeah it could have been salvaged but it needs much more than just better writing. It also needs better level design, a better story, better controls, and more level creativity. Although the game has a few decent ideas it never really succeeds in any of them. But if you found it fun that’s all that really matters I just think it needs a crapload of improvement for me to like it.

THANK YOU FOR DEFENDING THE CURRENT VOICE ACTORS!! A lot of people give them flack but a lot of the decisions done with the characters and their lines aren’t their fault. They’re doing their job to the best of their ability. I’m not going to blame Roger for Sonic’s bad jokes. I’m not gonna blame Kirk Thornton for Shadow being a generic edgy bully. That’s the writers. Not the voice actors. As a fan of English voice acting, I’ve been trying to get this point across whenever I can, mostly with anime sub elitists and Sonic fans.
A rebuttal to this is that the delivery of the lines is what makes or breaks those lines. Take Star Wars Episode 3 for example. In that movie there were plenty of crappy lines but the way they were delivered still makes them okay. If Kirk (for example) had delivered his lines in a different way they wouldn't seem so thuggish (he fixed that in Forces)
jamaine gardner Part of that though is direction. Directing can very easily affect how the lines are said. Part of why a lot of the lines in the Star award prequel were said awkwardly is because of George Lucas’ crummy direction for his actors.

We were supposed to get a 3rd Storybook game as part of a contract with Nintendo that ended up giving us Sonic Boom instead. I blame the 2010s complete series direction change for why Storybook 3 never happened. Pontac & Graff never should have been hired to begin with, while Jason Griffith & Lisa Ortiz never should have been replaced. If you ask me we should have gotten Storybook 5 by now. Storybook 3 was supposed to be Sonic & the Argonauts because Greek/Roman Myth won the poll. There should have been a Storybook game based on Chinese or Japanese Mythology. There also should have been Storybook games based on the Science Fiction & possibly Horror/Mystery poll options.

Sonic Lost World was ok for what its worth. Forces was just a thing. Sonic needs solid direction and consistency. Tired of him tripping every other game.

Finally, someone who agrees with me! Story > Gameplay in Sonic any day. My biggest complaint about gameplay in Sonic games these days is that we have this huge cast of literally colorful characters and Sonic's the only one we can play as!
The Just Sonic Mentality that started with Unleashed was a huge mistake for the series. Also let's not forget how infuriating it is that we're told to play as 2 Sonics, yet aren't allowed to play as any of these excellent cast members in 3D except for Shadow in Forces! Story is every bit as important as gameplay & it's like Sega & Sonic Team don't want to deliver on either of those aspects these days. They could have easily fixed the story problem if they wanted to, as there are probably 200,000 people capable of doing Pontac & Graff's job way better than them if given the chance.

Can't agree on RGS as best Sonic. Even in lines where he's supposed sound panicked, he just makes Sonic sound whiny. Can't blame the lines for him not capturing the feel. I don't see the level of cockiness in his voice as a much as Ryan Drummond. All this said, RGS has been Sonic for the longest time by a lot, so natural more people will feel his voice is right. It's mainly the older fans like myself that can't stand the voice. It sounds so. . .nerdy. Hearing RGS Sonic say "ow" physically hurts me

Roger Craig Smith was always a terrible fit for Sonic & he never should have voiced him to begin with. It was all to make this 2010s Bad Joke Era of the series which never should have happened. There was no reason to replace Jason Griffith as Sonic or Shadow & Lisa Ortiz as Amy! If you compare the 3 Main English VAs & Sonic's Japanese VA (who is fully capable of English Voice Acting) Roger just sounds way too different from the other 3 voices which all are fairly consistent with eachother. Roger's Sonic doesn't come across as nerdy to me, it sounds more like a guy who's 40 trying to pass as a Teenager & failing miserably.
Sonic is supposed to be cool, although Roger's Sonic just sounds lame & he'll forever be associated with the worst decade of Sonic's Career. Roger Craig Smith's voice only fits Boom Sonic, which was made to accommodate his joke of a Sonic. Jason Griffith is extremely talented & Sonic was the 1st significant role he had through Sonic X in 2003. He never should have been replaced & I'm hoping he can return to voicing Sonic in the near future. While Ryan Drummond was great, I don't think he's capable of really voicing Sonic anymore. He hasn't voice acted in nearly a decade & he turned down his big chance to return to the series in Generations.

@@mrbanks456 Actually Junichi Kanemaru is quite fluent in English these days compared to when he started as Sonic in 1998. Some of the Engrish he still uses are simply because it sounds cool or because the Japanese word is taken straight from Engrish. He's fully capable of English voice acting.
I will say that his Japanese & Engrish dialogue feels a lot more pleasing to the ears than Roger Craig Smith's obnoxious sounding Sonic. It's unfortunate so many people choose to play the Modern games with Roger's Voice instead of his. Even though he's the VA people tend to go to in the Adventure games these days rather than Ryan Drummond.
I think the main problem is the slow drawl to everything. He's got the attitude but that's about it imo

The first and last opinions are extremely popular opinions. The only one that's questionable is the middle one. Sonic 06 had a lot of interesting stuff, it was just poorly executed and buggy. That's why people dislike it. Many people believe that with more time in the oven it could have turned out pretty great. And almost everyone is begging for them to stop bringing back Classic Sonic, it's annoying at this point.

Yeah Story was 1 of the things 06 actually did a great job on even though it was rushed & left incomplete. I miss the 2000s decade for Sonic & despise the "Just Sonic" mentality & the entire joke direction for the series that started in Colors.

Ryan Drummond is my childhood and so is Jason Griffith but I love all of these voice actors are the best for Sonic
Honestly, I just want it all to be well written. Less plot holes, ridged characterization, and more flexibility would be appreciated. I feel like they got scared and are playing it “safe” while still partially listening to fan input. Knux got too serious, war general is a bit much and he lacks the same air of gruff that made him really funny. Rouge is acting too out there, though I understand they change a bit with each new VA. Sonic seems a bit off...lines and all.
I just want it all to tighten up, and really have an impact. None of the stories have to be hyper detailed, just well written. I personally think, despite all the shit it gets for the Edge...Shadow the Hedgehog caught the characters fairly well while still staying faithful to the core cast of the series. Shadow ranged a bunch, which helped play around with his character and flesh him out a bit. He holds a somber yet resolute grasp on himself by the proper end, and he’s all kinds of fascinating.
That is literally my main gripe. The rest is just me nit picking. I’d like more 3d games that aren’t on rails with baby bumpers. I wanna go while still having optimal control of input, gameplay needs more room while not being too underwhelming. I know I have a lot to ask, but that’s just what I think would help improve the franchise.
Shadow the Hedgehog was a good game & better than anything we've gotten from the 2010s decade except Mania for the Sonic Series. It sounds like what you want is for the series to have a return to form with storytelling & controls almost exactly like the Adventure games. If I were in charge of Sonic I would have issued a New Era that felt like a continuation of the Dreamcast & 4kids eras by now. Jason Griffith & Lisa Ortiz never should have left the series & I would try to get both of them back. I would have fired Pontac & Graff & tried to get the talented Dreamcast & 4kids era people to make the game. None of the characters introduced starting with Unleashed would return, except possibly Infinite.
I would even consider hiring Yuji Naka's team Prope to help with the recreation of the Adventure games. I would leave Boost games entirely to Dimps, having a few Boost Game developers sent there & have Mania Team work toward making the Classic Fans happy. I would also see to it we finally got Sonic & the Argonauts (the poll winner was Greek/Roman Mythology) & would suggest a 4th Sonic Storybook game based on Fareast Asian mythology, which isn't all that well known outside of that part of the world.
Oh my God you've read my mind! Are you magic!? I agree with 95% percent of what you've said. We can is cheesy indeed but I like it. And Roger is an above decent VA he's good but I have preferences for Jason Griffith.

I agree with most of what you said, although I prefer Silvaze over Tailsmo. I would also argue that Mania Plus & the IDW Comics are better than the Boom Cartoon. Amy Palant was a great Tails VA, Jason Griffith was a natural to the role of Sonic & never should have been replaced back in 2010. Lisa Ortiz was the best Amy VA & also should never have been replaced. Most of your opinions seem normal for fans who grew up with the series in the 2000s.
I get the feeling you probably hate the 2010s direction for the Sonic Series as well. Before the awful joke direction started in 2010 we actually got great stories from the series games like in Black Knight & I really miss that. I want a return to form for the Sonic series in 3D like what we got in the 2000s decade. No more "Just Sonic" mentality in the main series, actually getting games that play like the Adventure games & let us raise chao again.

Some fans have speculated that the entire Gizoid Trilogy was made noncanon in response to what Ken Penders did to Chronicles. That's the best answer we have for why Emerl & G-merl weren't in Generations. Gmerl was probably going to have some epic role in the 2nd Chronicles game before Ken Penders screwed everything up. Cream & Vanilla also both deserve to return in the series.

@@WaterKirby1994 Well, I can safely say that those fans are wrong. Gemerl is a recurring character in the IDW comics and appeared in Reboot Archie at least once. If Penders tried to hamper that, he failed miserably, and deservedly so. It's well out of his position to do so.
I think the fact I grew up with a lot of Saturday morning Sonic shaped my liking of Jaleel White's characterization of Sonic.
But I can see that the personality and tone was that of a 90's cool kid (which I also associate Sonic as, pretty much would swear that was his character) and that personality might not connect with people the same these days. (which I also have to admit in getting older)
since then Sonic has barely been given that much personality other then the Heroic nice guy, and the VA's have had to work with "eh" writing
Anyways rambling aside, I do like Roger Craig Smith's voice as a comedic, older sounding, cocky, modern guy who also happens to be a hero. not my favorite, but for the writing that the Boom series had, his voice and especially his delivery are great, Much respect for him.

Roger's Sonic sounds unfitting for main series Sonic & only really works for Boom Sonic. Sonic's Japanese VA is far better at voicing Main Series Sonic in English than Roger Craig Smith. I generally like all four of Sonic's VAs (and I've ranked them on my own personal scale, if you will) but I DEFINITELY agree with you on Roger! It's really awesome to see when people truly appreciate what he brings to Sonic's character! I think people end up creating this idea of what Sonic "should" be in their head and when confronted with someone who actually causes Sonic to act the way he's _always_ been, it's a little weird for them for whatever reason. Sonic's been that cocky from the very beginning, it's just been mellowed out over the years until Roger came along. Just my theory, anyway.
Sonic has only ever been the way he is now in the 2010s decade & that 1 DiC Cartoon that was overly goofy in tone. The Classic games merely made him an impatient hero with the goal of saving his friends or stopping the Death Egg. If you watched SatAM or played any of the 3D Games from the 90s or 2000s he wasn't anything like the way he's been depicted by Roger's Sonic. That's not even going into the realm of comics, although Archie & Fleetway weren't afraid to actually depict Sonic as an actual character rather than the monotonous faker he's been from Colors onward.
Sonic Adventure was supposed to be the big defining game for how Sonic & his friends would act. It was supposed to put an end to all the conflicting ideas of who the characters were. Unfortunately the 2010s era decided to completely take away everything that had been established up to that point in terms of character growth & turn everything into a joke to please people who weren't even really fans. Only the dumb critics who didn't understand the series wanted this 2010s era. The 2000s never forgot that Sonic was supposed to be a cool guy, which was abandoned completely with Sonic Colors.
Roger was never a good fit for Sonic's VA, sure he's an accomplished voice actor, although he never should have been cast for the role of Sonic. Jason Griffith never should have been replaced, he was a natural for the role of Sonic. He had never had a significant role in voice acting until 4kids hired him to be Sonic in X & he really became quite talented while working for 4kids. Jason had come close to the level of Ryan Drummond in quality by the time he replaced him in the games & completely surpassed him by the point of Secret Rings. Jason just kept getting better with each performance, which is the opposite case of Roger Craig Smith who was ok in Colors & Generations, although was awful in Lost World & Forces.
Pontac & Graff also never should have been hired as writers for the 2010s decade because they never had any knowledge of the Sonic Series. They also suck as writers & have yet to write anything decent for the series over the course of 9 full years. They are a large part of why all that the characters were in the 2000s was lost the moment they started writing.

I feel (and I’m sure others do too) that SA2 Shadow is practically a different character altogether from the shadow from Heroes, Shadow and 06. I love both characterisations in their own ways, they just share the same physical form. The SA2 shadow works so well on his own, but then the heroes to 06 shadow was different but built off of SA2’s shadow really well

2. Sonic X was great... except for Chris until the last season.

Can we all just chill out...take a step back...and admit...that all three of the major voice actors aren't perfect?
Ryan, Jason and Roger have _all_ made awkward line deliveries or had to make the best out the(sometimes) bad lines they were given.
Pulling one random weirdly done take by Roger's Sonic out of a hat and saying "This is why Ryan/Jason was better" doesn't work when I can do that exact same thing for the other two.
Same goes for the entire cast.
4. If/when someone tells me that Sonic can't have a dark plot because "it's a story about a blue hedgehog that runs fast" _again,_ I am personally going to buy them a pet for their birthday just so I can torture it in front of them.

I get that people might prefer more light-hearted Sonic stories, but saying that there can't be a dark story because "Sonic is inherently silly" is _infuriating._

My unpopular opinions are: Sonic 06 is my favorite videogame of all time. The classic games aren't that great. I don't like Ryan's Sonic voice. Sonamy sucks except in Sonic Boom. I despise Sally Acorn. I prefer Shadow and Maria as siblings rather than lovers. The Werehog is awesome and his gameplay was better than the daytime stages. SA2 is overrated, I like it alot but it's overly praised. Sonic X is the best Sonic TV show. I didn't mind Sonic's movie design that much the new design is better though
If 06 is your favorite videogame then you haven't had much experience with gaming or Sonic, and that's evident here.
I've been gaming since I was 8, I'm 22 now and I own every single Sonic game, I've watched all of the Sonic TV shows multiple times over, I have a complete collection of the Sonic Archie comics AND every issue of IDW Sonic so far, but sure I DEFINITELY don't know anything about Sonic just because I like a game that you dislike. Sound legit..

Here's my thoughts on the opinions:
1. Agreed. Honestly I like Fist bump and Nathan Sharp's rendition of it made it one of my favorite vocal sonic songs. Seriously it was awesome.
2. While i don't hate We can, i can easily say it's the weakest of the team songs. (Follow me and Team Chaotix are ten times better).
3. I grew up with the xbox ports of Adventure 1, i never owned a dreamcast. But i do think some areas looked better despite the models looking a bit shiny.
4. I agree with how 06 handled Shadow's character. However that's not really an unpopular opinion from my experience. I don't know how to say about how it was in his own game since i don't really have much of an experience with it and that i never played it (with dolphin emulator being an exception).
5. Being honest, I myself used to despise these stages when i was younger. Now... They aren't as bad i thought they were. (Tho Security hall and mad space were frustrating.)
6. I never played the Wii version of Colors. I owned the DS version (from what i heard claims to be the better version), as for the story itself, i did watch cutscenes of it when i was younger but looking at it now it's kind of boring. Shame the ds version never had those wonderful eggman radio clips.
7. 100% AGREED TO THE MAX. Roger is by far my favorite voice pick for Sonic. It kind of sucks so many people bash him due to the voice direction and writing. It's not his fault. Blame the direction. Boom & Team Sonic Racing were his best performance as Sonic. I also agree with Ryan drummond's Sonic being overrated, I know people thinks he's great but i think his sonic voice gets a bit too much praise from my experience. That and some of his clips are overused too. I mean i liked him in Adventure 1&2, but in Heroes he was downright obnoxious (Like Sonic's character in that game in general).
8. Agreed with the werehog. Unleashed is one of my favorite sonic games, and i personally enjoyed the werehog stages slightly more than the daytime stages. Concept wise, and Gameplay wise despite being slow.
9. I don't really know about player choice's in general so i can't really give a thought.
Bonus: It's not my favorite but it's a badass song none the less.
10: It really depends if the story is good or not. But putting out by the way, the stories in Sonic battle, Unleashed and Sonic 3K had my favorite stories in sonic games.

i agree to most of this, i grew up with Shadow the Hedgehog and Unleashed and loved the story despite some lacking in gameplay. though of course there are a couple i slightly disagree with but i understand completely :
1. Werehog isn't that bad
I agree, i loved Werehog Sonic and how i found him menacing yet cute at the same time. But gameplay wise, it gets kinda tiring. Dunno if its because of how young i was when i played it but i've never been a fan of run-and-rumble type of gameplay where you fight badguys on every part of the level to proceed but thats just me and maybe i'd change my opinion when i play the game again, its been like 7 years since i last played it.
2. RCS is the best Sonic voice
While yes Roger is a talented voice actor. and while i'm not sure if its because of the directions and what not, RCS Sonic doesn't *feel* like Sonic. Sonic as a character is an easy going 15 years old daredevil who has the late 90s-early 00's *radical* attitude that wants to get things done quick yet he's compassionate, has a strong sense of freedom and justice, and loyal to his friends. This were portrayed really well with Ryan and Jason. Roger however, instead of sounding like what Sonic's supposed to be as a character, instead gives me the vibe that Sonic is a sarcastic, mean spirited millennial in his mid 20s. I'm not sure if its because of the Sonic Boom TV show (which is a separate canon), but i can't exactly take his voice seriously in games. Somehow he sounds like he's talking down on you and his friends most of the time lol.
here's my personal unpopular opinions :
1. Sonic Battle is one of the best yet underrated Sonic Game. Very fun gameplay but a deep story, plus the artstyle is top notch.
2. I don't like how Sonic characters are portrayed in the recent games (except Amy, thank lord they improved her). Most are a shell of who they used to be. I hate that Tails is still relying on Sonic despite actually defeating Chaos 0 in Adventure, and how Shadow is just Vegeta's fursona now, Sonic is a condescending jerk and Silver is a bumbling idiot who don't understand insults?? *Really TSR* ??
3. I never liked how the western fandom see's Sonic as a big meme. A big joke. Compared to the Japanese audience who actually cared enough they actually take the games and story seriously.
4. Despite the game/story 'deletes itself' in the end, i consider Sonic 06 as canon. There's a huge post about how it ties with Blaze is actually transferred to the Sol dimension at the end of Silver's story and it makes the plot and universe way more interesting.
5. Big the cat doesn't deserve the hate he gets throughout the years.
6. I never liked the Archie Comics. lol.
Milk Addicc I disagree with the notion of Silver being a "bumbling idiot" Silver was always characterized as "determined, but naive" He's lived his whole life in a living hell where practically everyday is a fight for survival and it certainly doesn't help that he's been alone (or with blaze in 06's case) all that time as well. So all things considered, it makes sense for someone like him to not get the concept of jokes
I agree with you completely on Roger Craig Smith being the worst of Sonic's English VAs & think we would have gotten a better Sonic from his Japanese VA, who is fully capable of voice acting in English. I always got the vibe that Sonic was at least in his 30s with Roger's voice. I also agree with you completely with Big not deserving the hate he's gotten over the years. Sonic 06 was actually confirmed as canon in Sonic Generations & was part of an alternate timeline that can still come back. Personally I believe that Blaze was native to the Sol Dimension & will explain later.
I agree Sonic Battle is severely underrated, however a lot of the better games in the series are underrated these days like Shadow the Hedgehog, the Sonic Adventure games, Sonic Advance 2 & more. I'm not sure what you mean by Western Fandom seeing Sonic as a big meme. I live in the States & downright despise that Sega is presenting Sonic in this way to please people who aren't even actual fans. Sonic is supposed to be a Shonen series not some stupid cartoon animal! As for the characters portrayal, I despise how most of them have been portrayed since everything about the series changed in 2010. Even Amy has the misfortune of sounding like Minnie Mouse for half the time her current VA has voiced her.
Back to Blaze I believe she was visiting Cream like she promised at the end of Rush & arrived at the exact moment that Iblis was unleashed by Eggman's experiments on Elise. She was blasted into the future & left with amnesia where she would meet Silver. The 2 would become close by fighting against Iblis together. Silver accepted Blaze despite her fire powers which were feared in this future & eventually she would be the character that we see in 06.
To be very honest... i actually liked the Werehog, he was the very *reason* for me to buy Unleashed, being that my first *oficial* sonic game... and i liked the werehog stages way more than just spamming the boost buttom and trying not to have a stroke with how terrible it is to dodge some of these damn obstacles.
Now as for story... I don't see why not have more story on the modern era games, seriously, i like the story of some of these games way more than the games itself, i mean... story is the only reason i like Sonic and the Black Knight(Okay i admit to liking Knight of the Wind and some other sound tracks too, but shhhh). Now that there are people working on modernized classic sonic games, sincerely, that should be good for the people who just want to run forward and not have to deal with a story, meanwhile, the modern games, where characters have voices and all that, they really just need better writing... or Sega needs to get over the fear of trying new writing elements and stuff... but at this point i could just be saying a bunch of stupidities, happens quite often honestly, i never know how to put my opinions into words and make 'em make sense.
Anyways, unpopular opinions of the day: I like Sonic and the Black Knight, because it's real funny to analyze it with the actual legends in mind and realize that: Shadow/Lancelot is Amy's/Morgan le Fey/Lady of teh Lake's adoptive son, Sonic/Arthur gets cucked by Shadow, Blaze/Percival would be crazy to the point of thinking that knights covered in guts and blood are actually angels, Silver/Galahad is shadow's son and, from what i heard of a friend who actually read the legends, he would get Percival's sister pregnant... and finally... Gawain/Knuckles would be a womanizer AND a serial killer, as Gawain was a fucking psycho...
Hope i didn't anger any Arthurian legend fans out there, these are things i heard from friends who read it, could be different versions, could not be... either way... still fun to put together all the shit that the Knights of the Round Table did and were at fault for happening in Camelot.

1st off I agree we need better stories in the series than the crap we've gotten from the 2010s era courtesy of Pontac & Graff. I personally blame those 2 who never should have been hired to begin with & the entire 2010s direction change for the series for why we never got that 3rd Storybook game. I desperately want the series to return to form soon much like it was in the 2000s with gameplay being taken from the Adventure Style where we got to play as a variety of characters & stories that live up to what we got from Adventure & the 2000s decade games.
Now for Black Knight, I get the feeling Metal Sonic is supposed to be Mordred & Big is the Fisher King. There are 4 Lady of lakes from what I remember & Amy is supposed to Nimue rather than Morgan Le Fey who was King Arthur's half sister. Le Fey would go off to some school where she would learn magic & become a powerful witch known as Morganna. Mordred would be born through Morganna using sorcery to trick & seduce Arthur for the sole purpose of destroying the half brother she despised.
Mordred would bring about the downfall of the round table. When it became known there was a traitor among the Knights of the Round Table, Mordred would frame Lancelot who was only guilty of getting too close to Queen Guinevere. Mordred knew that Lancelot was the most respected member of the round table other than King Arthur & intentionally tried to set them against each other splitting the round table so that they would war against eachother. Lancelot saved Guinevere from Mordred's scheme to have her executed & went back to France where he believed he was needed after having enough of the pointless war.
The remaining Knights of the Round Table had become aware of Mordred's treachery & scheming to become King, although were too weakened to stop him. There was a ceasefire to negotiate peace between their armies although some random guy drew his sword to kill a snake which made both sides then go about killing eachother. King Arthur would die from injuries sustained while killing Mordred & his last 2 surviving knights would help him on his final journey to Avalon by returning Excalibur to the Ladies in the Lake as he died. Lancelot would return from France too late to help King Arthur & blame himself.
Since Percival is female in Black Knight does that mean Galahad does it with her instead? Silvaze happening in the Arthurian canon is fun to think about. The same holds true for Blaze starting to lose her mind on her search for the Holy Grail with Silver & starting to mistake things for angels. All the knights of the round table were serial killers, living in an era where life wasn't really all that valued. Lancelot killed hundreds of guys for example.

I'll just headcannon that Silver/Galahad does it with Blaze/Percivale, because i'm a bit of a sucker for this ship anyways. : P

Most of these are interesting! If anything, I agree with you wholeheartedly with the last bit. At this point, the gameplay of Sonic doesn’t have to be justified further, considering that I don’t see anymore problems with gameplay. The stories are what got in more into Sonic in the first place.

Here are my unpopular opinions:
*I absolutely hate all the memes especially the Knuckles ones (e.g: & Knuckles, "Oh no!", knucklehead, etc) It honestly feels like a cheap and cringe way of keeping a character relevant without actual development or good writing.
*Blaze is the best rival character (over Shadow, Silver, Knuckles etc), she honestly feels like the truest counterpart to Sonic imo moreover she is the most unique out of Sonic's rivals plus it helps she's a princess that actually does her job instead of getting kidnapped every Tuesday, unlike other princesses I could mention.
*I actually liked Shade from Sonic chronicles and it was an interesting concept exploring the past of Sonics world moreover potentially developing Knuckles' character after discovering he's no longer the last of his species, it really is a shame that thanks to a real life Eggman she'll (likely) be forever lost in the obscurity of forgotten Sonic characters (alongside Honey the Cat).
*The comics will always be the best medium of exploring the Sonic franchise, the games (especially over the last few years) can never give even fraction of the substance the characters get in the comics; I mean in the games when have: Blaze and Shadow directly interacted with each other?, when was the last time they showed Knuckles guarding the Master Emerald?, what happened to G.U.N? etc (not mention the crapshoot of the games continuity). Honestly I too prefer story over gameplay hence why I prefer the comics over the games as the best representation of the franchise imho.
*I miss team Hooligan and wish they came back (for real not illusions).
*Bonus one!; the fandom gets too harshly criticized for the Sonic franchise's "rollercoaster" reputation especially if you look into the "creative differences" between Sega NA Vs Sega JP and I'll say no-more...
I love how the background music is the one Pasquale meme'd with "top 10 sonic music to have sex to", and I couldn't get that bit out of my mind xD
That said:
1. Yeah i think Fist Bump is alright, not bad, not great.
2. We Can is definitely much cringier than Fist Bump, and SOUNDS more cringier to me, but then again I was never that big a fan of Sonic Heroes.
3. I like the Sonic DX GC models, but i like some of the Dreamcast's world textures more.
4. I'm not a big fan of Shadow the Edgehog, but I agree about the characterization. I sometimes hated the SA2 shadow, but that's probably cuz they had weird dialogues more than anything. (I too liked Sonic 06 despite the horrible mess it was, more on that later)
5. I do not hate the treasure hunting stages, BUT, i hate the fact that the game's camera was infuriating to me.
6. Colors is.... a game.
7. I like Roger's voice generally (especially in the Sonic Boom cartoon), but I also like the SA2 voice in its game.
8. I like the design and idea behind the Werehog, but i dislike how it was done in the game (its a wannabe Kratos and we all freaking know it). I also dislike the horrible name of "Werehog", a Werehog would probably be a man turned pig, not a hedgehog turned wereWOLF..
9. I'm indifferent to this one, but then again i dont think i've played the games mentioned.
B. It's a good song, but I like almost all Crush40 songs equally (and the ones i don,t i like less than)
10. Ironically, some of the good story games have stable gameplay (sadly except for sonic 06).
Here's my dumb opinions:
1. I did not play Sonic Rush that much, but I still think Blaze is best there, than whatever the hell she is in Sonic 06, which leads to;
2. I do not like the "Blaze and Silver" pairing. Too many people "ship" that, but I only see them as survivors trying to work together to fix things, and thus, more comrade/sibling(as the game states) level. I also prefer the Blaze and Cream friendship.
3. I liked the Sonic 06 story, and people shooting it down are biased people because "oh no a human kissing an animal" scene. I don't think that should be the highlight to explain the game's story, it's not a masterpiece of a story, but it wasn't bad, and shitting on it cuz of THAT scene, is dumb.
4. After Sonic 06 I began to hate the game's choice gameplay. Ever since that one game, any game's made after animate Sonic in a way that I can only describe as "car-like". When you start moving, he has a slower animation than how much forward momentum he's producing, making him look weird, almost as if the game took the whole "gotta go fast" thing too literal, because you only want to enjoy how the animation looks when going at FULL SPEED. In SA2, i think Heroes, and 06, sonic had a more in-sync animation for when he starts walking-to-running. Nowadays he looks like he's stuck in Rider's world, but worse.
5. I like Boom Amy's personality a bit more than previous "obsessed over Sonic" Amy, I still don't like the "I'm a Wahmen" attitude she tends to have, but the less googoo over one character she is, the better.
We Can was the ONLY song in the Heroes OST to make me cry. It seems like whenever I like a song alot, people call it cheesy and I guess I don't know what "cheesy" means because that song means alot to me! Until I made a connection with Tails' theme and fell in love with Sonic Youth by Crush 40, We Can was my main jam (now they ALL are!). It was my beacon during days of depression. It reminded me not to give up on life, dreams, and everything that was good for me. Most of all, it gave me a sense of comradery where I had none. But, of course, I always treated Sonic like he was that friend who was there for me when others weren't there or couldn't be there. That and the lyrics gave me a glimmer of hope in myself amidst my self-loathing.
It's curious to me that you like Fist Bump (which is another favorite of mine) but not We Can because to me, they have a similar tone in terms of lyrics. I used to be one of those weirdos that disliked the song; mainly because the vocals did throw me off but as I kept hearing the song, the lyrics intrigued me and then I fell in love with it. Anyway, music is music and tastes are tastes so it's all good!
-Hyper Sonic should've been white instead of rainbow-colored.
-Sonic is (or should've been) a more interesting and better character than Mario.
-Sonic Unleashed is awesome but the Werehog part of the game is the worst part.
-Sonic and the Black Knight is peak Sonic character development.
-I prefer Sally (pre-The Slap) over Amy.
-Boom Amy is the best interpretation of Amy.
-Sonic Heroes is underrated.

I honestly disagree. Mephiles I found interesting because not only was he a card-carrying villain with no remorse who was taken seriously, he had a very good reason for being the way he was. Mephiles was the mind of Solaris, who was experimented on unwillingly, and in Mephiles' first seconds of existence, he was trapped in the Scepter of Darkness for, from his perspective, just being free. Not only did the experiments probably wreck him psychologically, being trapped in darkness made it even worse. And then there's the whole being half of Solaris bit.
In comparison, Infinite just came off as being pissy that he was considered weak, and that's about it.
@@bretginn1419 That's a good point, I know that Mephilies was sealed away but I find that part sorta bare bones in my opinion. The experimentation part is unique though. 06 overall has better storytelling than Forces. At least 06 was semi-competent in the story they wanted tell. Forces story is extremely flawed, Infinite backstory isn't bad, it just feels incomplete, like the rest of the game. At first, Infinite was a creation of Eggman, most likely a robot but the writers changed him into a mercenary.

2. The Werehog levels in Sonic Unleashed are really good.

As cool as it was to see Sonic go the fastest I think he's ever gone, I can't really grasp the Daytime Stages in Unleashed. I already bought the game solely for the Werehog but fell in _love_ with the gameplay once I played. It's just more fun, in my opinion.
Daytime stages are better than night in the 360/PS3 version. Werehog is good only on the Wii/PS2.

Let's not even talk about the Daytime ice stage... forgive my poor memory of location names, hopefully you'll understand. I tried looking them up but I got myself even more confused.

I got sonic unleashed when i was a kid and i really loved the werehog and his gameplay, i think because at that time my favorite games were the legend of spyro series so that same style of combat was already familar to me
