    HERE IS THE COMMAND FOR POWERSHELL:
    New-Item -ItemType SymbolicLink -Path "STEAM_PATH_GOES_HERE" -Target "EPIC_PATH_GOES_HERE"
    IF YOU INSTALLED ON STEAM FIRST:

    🚨🚨READ FIRST🚨🚨 ---->> I highly recommend that you start this process from a clean slate and then install the game via Epic Games first and then via Steam second. Over time, folks seem to have had a much easier time, and far less hurdles/issues, when doing it in this order. It IS possible to set it up through Steam first and Epic second, but do so at your own risk.🚨🚨
    This will save you 128 GIGABYTES of storage space! (Assuming you are doing it for Destiny 2)
    This could be used for other games as well, such as The Elder Scrolls Online.

      @Noname-vq5ei no :/
      You will have to buy it again on Steam if you want to access it from Steam.
      This solution just allows the two platforms to share a single install so you don't have to maintain two full sized installs of the game.
      But if you want to play the Legacy Collection content, then you will have to launch the game via Epic, and if you want to play Forsaken, then you would launch the game with Steam.

    • @SatrixPlaysGames
      @SatrixPlaysGames  5 месяцев назад

      That's normal, after verifying, Epic realizes that it is missing some files (everything except the "packages" folder). So it downloads the game, I don't know why it makes you sit through a full download BUT at the end of it it only saves the missing files.
      When that download is done, your Epic install location should only be around 150 MB or so. While your Steam install location should be 128 GB or so.

      Hmmm... possibly. I just double checked both PCs in my home and the Steam and Epic install folders are on the same drive on both. So, I can't confirm from my end. I am going to do some googling to see if I can find more info on that case.

    So how do i do this? can i just uninstal the game on both launchers, and then only instal it again on steam?

    • @SatrixPlaysGames
      @SatrixPlaysGames  3 месяца назад

      Best way is to uninstall it on both and then reinstall it on Steam only in any location that you prefer. The SymLink folder will be removed during the uninstall process.
      There is a command you can use to disable it if you want to be thorough but it isn't necessary since you will be uninstalling both. Typically you would only use this command if you were going to keep the game installed with the main launcher (Epic if you did the exact same process as me in the video).

      @SatrixPlaysGames  6 месяцев назад +1

      So I didn't run into this when I did Steam first, then Epic BUT I ran into a similar issue so I think I can still help.
      For me, Epic created a 2nd Destiny 2 folder within the Destiny 2 folder I created...smh. so it installed the full game.
      What I did was delete the "packages" folder that Epic created and replaced it with the SymLink "packages" folder that we make in the video with Powershell.
      How YOU can do it:
      1 - Move the "packages" folder you created out of the Destiny 2 folder.
      2 - Then let Epic install the game.
      3 - Delete the "packages" folder that Epic creates.
      4 - Move the SymLink "packages" folder back into the Destiny 2 folder.
      It should work as intended then.

      While you can do Steam first and then Epic...For whatever reason Steam seems to play nicer with the SymLink folder than Epic.

      @SatrixPlaysGames  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@prodbydr3100 you do NOT need to buy the Legacy Collection on Steam. You will just need to log in through Epic to access that content. The Forsaken pack will be slightly (very slightly) different.
      The Forsaken campaign is no longer in the game, I think only the raid is (Last Wish). In order to play Last Wish you will need to be on Steam. The majority of the Forsaken Pack (or the main reason I believe people buy it) is to gain access to the exotic armor and weapons from that time period. Those exotics can be used on any platform once acquired. You might have to be on Steam to acquire them the first time, but I am not 100% certain on that specifically.
      I hope I haven't created any confusion. But long story short, there is no need to buy ANY of the content on multiple platforms unless you just want the convenience of not having to bounce between platforms to play different content.

      So... I am not sure, I haven't tried that. But I have an idea of how you possibly do that. But if this doesn't work, you will just have to re-download it with Steam, unfortunately.
      So, here is what I would try:
      1 - Use the same command you used to create the SymbolicLink BUT change "New-Item" to "Remove-Item". This will undo the SymbolicLink.
      2 - BEFORE uninstalling with Epic. Copy and paste the packages folder from the Epic install location into the Steam instal location.
      3 - THEN you can uninstallDestiny 2 from Epic. Steam may want to verify files, but I believe this will let you skirt downloading the game all over again.

    When I go to properties in steam it says that it is the full 100 something gigabytes of storage and in File explorer it says 158 megabytes I think. Will this show up on my hard drive as 100 gigabytes gone or will it correctly display that only 158 mb was used?

    • @SatrixPlaysGames
      @SatrixPlaysGames  6 месяцев назад +2

      Mine says the same thing on Steam but shows the correct amount in File Explorer. It is only taking up the 158 MB that File Explorer indicates. From Steam's perspective, the game is taking up that much space, but that's because the "packages" folder in it's install location points it to the Epic folder. The Epic folder IS 128ish GB so Steam reads the game size as such.
      Some extra info from my experience:
      After I created the linked folder (and before I did the Steam "install") my hard drive showed 1.23 TB of free space.
      WHILE Steam was "installing" my hard drive said it had 1.11 TB of free space.
      Once Steam finished, my hard drive went back to saying it had 1.23 TB of free space.
      This is because while installing, Steam will reserve the space it thinks it will need but then won't actually use it because it will share Epic's install files instead. I hope that isn't confusing, but rather helps clarify what is taking place.

    • @SatrixPlaysGames
      @SatrixPlaysGames  6 месяцев назад

      Just in case my other reply is confusing...some times I dump too much info.
      File Explorer is telling you the truth.
      While Steam BELIEVES it is telling you the truth because it can't tell the difference between a SymbolicLink folder and a normal folder. (Which is good, that means it worked :] )

      That happened to me as well when I did this with Steam installed first. I fixed it by deleting the packages folder in the D2 folder Epic created and then dragging the SymLink folder we create in the video into that folder.

      I am sorry you are having to deal with that. I don't believe this would cause a disk write error. For clarity on my end, did you delete the install or do a proper uninstall through the Epic launcher?
      Setting up the SymLink Folder doesn't change "Write" Permissions for your hard drive, so it shouldn't be caused by this. Steam does occasionally run into disk write issues on it's own, though. Here is one site I found with multiple possible solutions:

      @@1-800-dilbertOk, if that is the packages folder that you created from the video you could use this command in PowerShell:
      Remove-Item -ItemType SymbolicLink -Path "STEAM_PATH_GOES_HERE" -Target "EPIC_PATH_GOES_HERE"
      This would undo the link, which would break the game for Steam but not Epic. But if the folder was already removed during the uninstall, and then Steam created a new Packages folder for itself, then this disk write error seems like it has a different cause. Only thing I would suggest to try if the problem persists is to completely uninstall the game from both launchers (or just Steam since you already did it for Epic), and then go to the location the game used to be installed and delete the Destiny 2 folder. Essentially, creating a clean slate to start from.

      Did you have any errors when creating the Symbolic Link in PowerShell? If so, what was the error?
      What was your command that you used? You must be absolutely sure you have the command pointing to the correct file locations for this to work.
      If no errors occurred, did Epic go through a full "install/download" of Destiny 2? Or did it try to verify the files?
      If none of the issues above happened, the command was entered correctly, and Epic properly installed BUT you still have this issue....then my best advice is to uninstall Destiny 2 from Epic AND Steam. Delete the install folders. Then start this process over from a clean slate, but install via Epic first.

      If you have done everything in the same order as the video then Steam is not installing the game, it is verifying that all of the files exist and then will piggyback off of Epic's install.
      If you were to uninstall the game on Epic, it will no longer launch from either platform.
      If you want to "uninstall" it from Steam you will first need to unlink the two "packages" folders. If you uninstall it without unlinking then this will also break it for both launchers and you will be at square one.

      Prior to the Steam "download and install" - 1.23 TB of Free Space
      During the Steam "download and install" - 1.11 TB of Free Space (this is because Steam was "claiming" the space it thought it was going to need)
      After the Steam "download" finished - 1.23 TB of Free Space (this is because Steam realizes all of the files were already there so it does not save them a second time so it no longer "reserves" the 0.12 TB it thought it would need)
      You will only have have one true install of the game. If you do it just like the video then that install will be in your Epic location, while the Steam location will essentially just have a sign with an arrow saying "The files you are looking for are over there".

    • @SatrixPlaysGames
      @SatrixPlaysGames  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@ACE-fd4nhin that case, I have a possible work around, but I can't guarantee it. I am making the assumption that Steam would at least let you begin the download. However, if it prevents you from even trying to start it then this won't work. So...assuming you can start it, try this:
      0 - Get rid of the SymLink folder, if you created it. Run the same command you ran to create it but replace "New-Item" with "Remove-Item".
      1 - Let the download run briefly (10 seconds, maybe not even that long) and then pause it.
      2 - While paused, create the SymLink folder in the folder Steam has created for the install.
      3 - Resume the download.
      If we are lucky, Steam might think it managed to download all those files instantly and skip ahead to the end of the download.
      I was able to use this method to solve a different problem. I know it can fix some things but I am not so sure it would work around this.
      But yea, if this won't do it then I would have to do some digging for another possible solution but I don't think I would be able to help here. Only other thing I can think of is to temporarily uninstall some other games or programs to make space just until you are able to complete the steps in the video. Then reinstall whatever apps you uninstalled.

      Use this in Powershell:

      Simple answer: yes.
      Not so simple answer: When Steam validates the files it will make you sit through a full download, but it is not going to actually create a second install. It just needs to add a few files it needs that Epic wouldn’t have added. Unfortunately, that means waiting for Steam to finish. Afterwards you should be good to go.

      I did not check that when I did this but I would assume that it does. So, if your internet has a data cap I do NOT recommend proceeding.
      When I did this it took Steam a long time to go thru the download portion, as if it was truly installing it. But when the download completed it did not take up any extra space. I have my ideas of what is happening... I believe Steam is saving the files within that shared folder, essentially rewriting everything within the folder. I just don't have proof this is what happens without doing it all again myself.

      The guide was made for Destiny 2 but this solution should also work for other online games that function similarly. The Elder Scrolls Online is a good example.
      SymbolicLinking is useful in a situation where 2 different programs make use of the same assets. Here the 2 programs would be Steam and Epic both utilizing the same Destiny 2 assets. Normally, they would each have their own copy of the assets, therefore consuming 256 GB (👎) instead of 128 GB (👍)

      2 - There may be a typing error in the command. In this case, double check there aren't any extra spaces or other characters included in the command that shouldn't be there.
