- Most of us have an Epic Store account (mostly the free games)! But what if you want a way to play all those games on your Steam Deck? We now have an amazing tool that will integrate your EGS library directly into game mode on your Deck. It’s called "Junk-Store" and it’s a plugin for the Steam Deck that’s as aspirational as it is polished! This video will show you how to install it in just a few simple steps!

After I have everything I want installed to I leave my Steamdeck set to Pre-release and Testing ❓️🤔🧐
I like that it is making progress, but I will keep using Heroic until this really improves. I am fine to manage my games through Heroic since it brings my GOG, Epic, and Amazon Prime games all together in one place. I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 1k games from all of them combined, so if I have to jump out to access one, I might as well do it for all. Until that improves, I will keep with what I am using. But it is definitely cool that others are working on easier front-ends for the Deck and Legendary.
Curious, is your main sticking point the lack of Amazon? Gog is available at the moment, albeit to Patreons only for now. What improvements in particular are you talking about, your comment suggests that it's a million miles away from being usable (maybe I'm just reading too much into this).
@@YetAnotherOne For me, personally, I just don't want to go through the hassle of uninstalling Heroic and all the games I have there just to start from scratch with this other method (which does look cool, don't get me wrong), but I'm with a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality right now. I'm also not the kind of person that installs and plays 5 games/day so the Heroic interface doesn't bother me every now and then.
@@BobDevV Worst thing is you can't even check your library on the fly (on your phone) as they don't have a web interface or app that you can login and check what games you have. You NEED to have the desktop client.
How do you launch heroic out of desktop mode?
I like these tutorial videos. I think a lot of people could find them helpful.

I've been using epic and ubisoft connect on my deck from the beginning, without using any extra tools. I just added the installers as non steam games on the desktop mode, then changed the shortcut to the launcher itself and it just worked. AC Valhalla may have been a subpar game but it works great on the deck
I thought using Heroic launcher and pushing the games to Steam was easier.
I didn't the ui hung on downloads etc all the time
I never had any problems with it, but I only use it for GoG.
How? Assuming you already completed part 1 & 2 since you have heroic launcher I fail to see how thats easier since you can do everything in game mode
@@jasper5945 Pretty sure I didn’t have to do part one and two. Just hit up the Discover store, installed Heroic Launcher, then logging into Epic. From there, downloaded games and used the built in functionality to push to Steam. Heroic handles the Proton stuff, and if it gets it wrong, game mode just suggests one anyway, so it all works out.
The beauty of Linux is how we can get to the same points different ways. 😎

I used a video explanation and I only used nosteamlauncher as the guy said and then it was added to Steam. I could download my games and play fine with some, but is this guide better than that one or about the same?
The only thing that makes me hesitant to recommend this is the creator flipped out that he wasn't getting enough support on the first round of advertisement for his plugin. It really makes me uncertain about the future of the plugin and also less likely to contribute to it.
I use Heroic for it, I think with it I have more control over what goses where aso. But if speed and easy-of-use is more important, it seems like an nice alternative!
The Junk-Store installers and launchers are just shell scripts, so you can have as much control as you like, but it requires a bit of effort. It's even possible to alter some of the UI elements and scripts by just editing a json file. Having said that, I totally get that Junk-Store is not for everybody. Use what ever works for you.

Been using junk store since it was on beta/experimental and man, I wouldn’t go back to heroic after that. Just easier to install epic games

I'd recommend maybe the Rog ally if any of the games you play require anti cheat so I'd check compatibility of your games list first before making a choice because all steam games run on the Rog:)

Question, does Junk Store sync your epic game store cloud saves? I lost a 40 hour Death Stranding save when I had to rma my deck. It’s why I quit using the heroic games launcher.
I know that some apps and games require ProtonGE to run, but why do you need it here?
Do you use it normally depending on the game you install through Junk Store?
Or do you just need it installed and Junk Store automatically uses the version you downloaded?
Since we were already installing Decky Loader, it might have made sense to direct people to Wine Cellar instead of protonup-qt for managing proton installations.
This is so interesting but I’ve been having an issue with deck loader since signing up for the family share beta. Do you know if it will still work
Glad I found someone else who had issue. I followed these steps but never saw the games in my Epic library.
Essential question: when you play Epic games like this, do you get your progression and play history/activity on your Epic Store profile? Because I've done this a long time, and it doesn't register in the play history on Epic.
We have seen it log play time and achievements in epic, but It think you have to allow the game access, it opens a web browser on first launch. Now having said that, just because we've seen it, doesn't mean that it's perfect or will work for everybody. I think it has more to do with epic's implementation on this. Junk-Store is no longer in the mix when it comes to this stage of things. Please report your findings to us via our support channels

It looks very good, but it has been working very well for me already with non steam launcher (Epic, GOG and Amazon Games). I have to switch to desktop mode to add my games to steam os everytime i install a new game, but the whole process takes no longer than 2 minutes
Does this work on regular desktop Linux in Steam or is it Deck-specific?

where did you ask or look? There's plenty of places we have answered this. upgrade to 1.1 in the testing store or downgrade to 1.0
I love Decky Loader but my problem is if you are on the beta build, EVERY TIME Valve releases a new version it bricks Decky and sometimes even bricks your Steam Deck until you uninstall Decky.

Can I ask why the install files need to be renamed? (Removing .download from the filename) What would happen if not renamed? TIA
Was thinking of getting a steam deck, issue is I play mostly with keyboard and mouse for all but 2 games I own so not sure if for me. I do like the fact that this is propelling gaming for Linux however so I respect the deck.

This just gives you a different way of installing games if the game doesn't run on the steam deck this isn't going to make it work.

stopped using EGS on the deck mostly due to login issues, epic constantly signs me out forcing a resign-in and verification and it does it so often i just gave up and cbfa with it anymore.
4:02 "make sure you like that smash button" ... Sadly, I don't have a smash button, so I can't say whether I'd like it or not.
Logged in but i still dont see my games library. Also, both of the battleye and the other button were blacked out for me from the start.

@@yllwboy1123 Upgrade to 1.1 in the testing store or downgrade to 1.0. I've mentioned here already that there's a bug in 1.0.1 that is causing this (I die a little inside every time this comes up because that bug snuck into the main store).

I've found Decky Loader kept on disappearing when there was a new Steam OS version. It got so I couldn't be bothered to keep on reinstalling DL. This is putting me off checking this out to be honest. I still use Heroic. None of the epic helpers are perfect and games like the Spiderman ones have real trouble with the controls on the deck not working with them.
Lutris works just fine but it's nice to have options

Does this bypass the launcher? Does this require a constant internet connection? Even for single player games?
There's no epic launcher in sight, it uses legendary to do it's magic. There's an offline toggle so you might be able to play some games offline. Not all games support this. We also don't have the resources to test all of this thoroughly so your mileage may vary on this. We do have a community wiki, so if you decide to give this a whirl you might want to contribute to it so others in your situation can learn from your experience.

I tried to play a video game in game mode that made me log into my Epic account It worked perfectly fine in desktop mode but on game mode Google kept saying the web browser was not secure and wouldn't let me log in.
Yes breakout recharged was one of the games that I tried.
i have tried heroic and using nonsteamlaunchers rn, but both of them are problematic.
like: heroic is very slow and buggy AND most games need manual things to work.
nonsteamlaunchers' epic cannot work offline. i tried so many times i can't get it to work without internet connection.
so does this work good?
There's an offline toggle, but not all games will work. The best thing to do is to try it and report your findings back to the community and us so we can figure out if we can do something about it or not.
Heroic have problem when opening Ghostwire game on steam deck, it will be just black screen when you try to start the game. Anyone experience that?

Hello I logged in to epic in junkstore. But every time I launch fortnite it tells me to launch from the epic launcher. Did I miss a step?

So, i've done everything described in the video. Now I'm logged into my EGS Account but the library isn't showing up! Just blank space only showing that I'm logged in. Any suggestions where I could look for a mistake?

are you on version 1.1? update to the latest version. Another thing to check is that the account you're logged into is the right one and has games added to it (I know this shouldn't need to be pointed out, but it happens more often than you think). @strider775 can you verify you're on 1.1 too?

I tried to use this to play dark and darker, and it tells me path not found, also how can we delete the game

be careful after updating your steam deck non of my games are working i tried restarting uninstalling/reinstalling game i spent hours diagonsing and looking at internet for answers it turns out decky loader is the culprit after updating my steamdeck deckyloader bugged and all i did to fix it is to delete the homebrew folder and it worked again

One issue.
So I tried to play Fortnite. I even enabled the “battle eye” in settings.
The game runs.
You can get on the staging island…
When it’s time to get on “the bus” it kicks you back to menu because it is unable to access “background services”.
Feels anti cheat related?
Tim Sweeney won't allow Fortnite to play on Linux because he's a petty loser.
It’s definitely a Tim decision there, I experienced this, now it won’t even launch with Thursday’s update

Going back to 1.0 worked for me
You have to uninstall junk store and when installing again, select the version 1.0

My dream is to be able to download Game Pass games to my Steam Deck (no i wont get Windows, i already got a high end PC) the biggest magic with Steam Deck is Linux.
I won't use Epic Game store on principle, even if they give away "free" games they still push for PC games to be "exclusive" which I've never liked on PC or console.
I just dl launcher from browser... then open from desktop..
Now if only egs stopped kicking me out every other day like on my desktop after shutting it down.

I’ve barely used my steam deck since getting it, did it every get easy anticheat support?
Devs need to enable it as far as I'm aware. A lot of devs refuse to do it. The support is there, but some devs just don't want to bother

Same. It's had about 3 hours use since summer '22.
Nothing is enjoyable on it. Whether it's down to the controls or the tiny characters etc, I've yet to find anything that doesn't require perseverance and effort. Neither of which I'm willing to spend on attempts to entertain myself. Just give up. Every time. Should've sold way back when.
I think heroic launcher is easier
After following your guide fortnite isn't running because it's asking for direct x12

Could you try version 1.1 on the testing store. I've changed a few things around SD card detection there. I don't think I'm fully out of the woods on this one yet, but a lot more people have had success with 1.1

@@playnicegames In the decky settings chance the store to testing from default. Then you should be able to install version 1.1 when you go into the plugins tab.

@@playnicegames The problem is that your sd card isn't named in the usual way that I've seen on the steam deck, I scan the symlinks and mounted sd cards and I guess this still doesn't line up with what you have. How did you format that SD card? This is usually what's causing the issues around this (or this could be a new problem all together)
Refuse to use Epic in any way whatsoever. Even using their free games is supporting them.

Deal breaker about Junk Store that no one seems to mention is that it has no download manager so you can't see how your download is progressing and, worse still, is that downloading more than one title at a time will cancel all your downloads all together. It won't even notify you that this is happening either. Back to Heroic launcher for me. Junk Store really needs to figure it out

Ah ya had me excited until you mentioned decky loader. Decky loader is like a really mini-game of uninstall reinstall every time the deck updates. I wish it were better but not worth the additional headaches it brings.
I'm the author of Junk-Store, what you want is possible, but it's not trivial. If I was certain that the community would back a kick starter or something on this I would be keen to get a team together and crank this thing up to 11, I think it's at 3 at the moment.
@@YetAnotherOne Thats totally understandable and its nothing personal. I just prefer to wait until things are a bit further along and less prone to breaking. I also like using desktop mode and docked mode for my steam deck a decent amount which decky loader consistently breaks for me. Thats why I am holding off for now.

Do all those steps, or get a Windows handheld, and Epic Store games (and all other stores) will work out of the box.
While I find this suggestion funny, I mostly find it sad. It's incredible to me that some people think it's acceptable to use Windows on a handheld... Or that it's somehow a viable alternative to a SteamOS-powered device. The two are literally polar opposites. They are fundamentally different things.
A Windows handheld is a random, off the shelf device with a desktop OS that was in no way designed for the form factor. Windows has decades of UX baggage and a profoundly flawed UI paradigm violently crammed into a form factor that lacks the requisite HID devices for an even servicable experience. Not to mention the fundamentally broken usually experience.
Meanwhile, Steam Deck is literally a console that just so happens to play PC games and respects your freedom. It has a flawless, perfectly integrated controller/user interface experience. Plus, I can put the Deck to sleep and it *always* wakes up exactly where I left off (which is just not something I've ever seen a Windows handheld do reliably). It is literally a console.
All of this is to say: in my book Windows is for chumps.
@@gardiner_bryant While Windows itself isn't designed for handheld, all those handheld come with software that allows doing all basic tasks (launching games, configuring things like Wifi, screen resolution, refresh rate, TDP, connecting Bluetooth devices, and so on), provide shortcuts to open on screen keyboard, switch windows, show desktop and so on. This software isn't really that much different that what Steam OS does. Therefore daily use of such handheld isn't really much worse then using Steam Deck - and is much better when it comes to running games from stores other then Steam or ones that just don't work on Linux (or even ones that do work but require downloading some different proton versions, or setting magical configuration parameters to run).
When it comes doing things that this UI doesn't support, then Steam Deck isn't better either - I would argue it is worse. Just look at your guide in this video - on Windows handheld I don't have to:
1. Reboot into special Desktop mode
2. Run some magical terminal command to setup password (never had to use cmd once on my handheld pc so far).
3. Rename downloaded file just to be able to run it, etc.
Desktop mode of Steam OS isn't any more usable on a handheld then Windows is.
