  • From a March 1966 telecast of "All Time Hits," Cab Calloway does the Beatles like nobody do with his cover of "Can't Buy Me Love." Also featured on the show are the regulars- former big band vocalists Bob Carroll, Billy Williams, and Bob Newkirk; and former WBBM radio staff vocalist Doree Crewes. Bob Trendler leads the WGN Orchestra.

    Trendler was a giant in the world of broadcast music. Once he took over leadership of the WGN Orchestra, he kept the flame going as long as the generation allowed him to. This is the kind of program fare I remember on WGN and WGN-TV until I left Chicago in 1962. So happy to see he was able to continue this kind of programming in color. As for Bozo's Circus, it shows how resilient he was.

    How many people were in the WGN Orchestra?

    • @gintgotham
      @gintgotham 7 лет назад +1

      When I was a child, Petrillo required a full symphony orchestra in a big station. By the early fifties, Trendler was running his strings through a reverb chamber. I count seven strings here; musicians were leaving through attrition. The standard studio orchestra in my day was around thirty; I count around twenty musicians here. This is 1966. Things were changing fast...too fast!
