  • Here is a video of me trying to start the truck. It sounds just the same when I spray starter fluid into the carburetor. I have not checked the compression nor have I checked the timing chain. Can anyone provide some insight on what to try next? I may drain the fuel and replace with fresh fuel. However, it should have started with me spraying starter fluid....correct?

Thank you for watching and I am sure you know what will get this bad boy up and running. It's my 15 year old's truck and he is anxious to get it running.

Remove the ECM from under the passenger seat. Open the case (4 Phillips screws) check for burned components inside on the circuit board, usually accompanied by a terrible smell of burning electronics. The ECM can burn up in various ways and areas. Even the most seasoned mechanic might have difficulties chasing down this issue. It's a relatively common thing to happen to the 2400, and other models. Hope this info helps someone.

A can of sea foam in a full tank would help clean out your fuel system. If sea foam is hard to fine a tank a premium could act as a substitute. If that's doesn't work I'd change fuel filter. Best of luck you. Let me know how it goes if you get a chance 😁👍

Is the distributor tight & not loose? Also, are you getting spark to the plugs? Might be a bad coil. If the wire in the hole next to the throttle body is broken, it won't start. Can't remember what that part is called. And..... another place to look is the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. If the diaphragm inside is torn or has a hole in it, it won't start. That was the problem on our 92' D21 hard body with the KA24E 4cyl. engine. Hope this all helps.

Thank you very much. In the initial phase, we did discover the distributor wasn’t tight even though we picked it up from a mechanic. We ended up using the FASTEC approach. Appreciate your input.

Hello, and thank you for watching the video. So the main problem was linked to the timing. We ended up finding a mechanic in Central Phoenix, who was able to adjust the timing from under the vehicle via the oil pump. Along side that we also changed quite a few parts just to make sure those weren’t the culprits ranging from spark plugs, spark plug wires, TPS sensor, belts, EGR valve, and the fusible link. Whew!

    Fuel.
Something to do with the fuel? Just a guess?
    1. Filters.
    2. Fuel itself.
    3. Fuel pump.
    4. Carburetors/injectors.
I think that is an SU carb?

My D21 is having the same trouble. I know I have fuel pressure up to the fuel rail. Any ideas?
