Thank you so much for this video. I have the exact same issue as your old reset button did. I never done soldering before but I am going to to try it just to get my Genesis back in action.
So glad this was able to be of help! I recommend you take your time and have all the tools you need ready, before you try it. It will make things go a lot smoother for someone with little to no soldering experience.
I feel it's easy enough for a beginner. There isn't much you can destroy while attempting this. Use a thin solder rosin and a fine tipped iron and it will be very easy with less of a chance of accidentally getting too much solder on a contact. I find a de-soldering iron/gun to be a must have in projects like this. Unfortunately none of my irons had the option to set a temperature so I don't know what mine gets up to. I let it sit on for a few minutes to warm up and usually after about 5 minutes it's ready to go. No matter the temperature be sure never to keep the iron on a point too long because it can warp the board.
Great to hear! I used the "Tenma 21-8240 Vacuum Desoldering Iron". I found it on Amazon on sale a couple years back. It's still on there now if you type exactly what I quoted.
Ordered! :) Thank you. A question if time permits for you, but can you speak to the tips on the desoldering iron? How have they held up for you? That was the biggest issue in the reviews.
So far this one has held up quite well for me and works much better than the wick (at least in my opinion). My actual soldering iron is a lil POS one I grabbed on sale at RadioShack before they went out of business and that one has shit tips but it can at least be switched out for a new/better one
These have broken on every singlr model 2 I've owned.I had them break on brand new consoles. You should start a repair business for these. You'd make a fortune.
I find it so therapeutic to clean and restore old things. If my hands were steadier and I knew a bit more I’d love to do repairs as a job. For now I’ll do my own or help friends so I can gain knowledge
@@CandisClassicGameShrine I wish I were local. I'd bring you mine. I'm gonna order a couple Console5 switches and maybe have my local Micro Center help me out. Last time I tried to swap some pickups in my Fender Stratocaster, I did not do too great.
@@9unslin9er It’s OK. Even the greatest of grades have messed up their things from time to time. I try to use things that don’t have too much value so that I can not worry too much if I destroy it in the process. Once I’m comfortable enough in the technique I’m trying to learn then I will use it on other things that I care about. I have always been into tinkering ever since I was a really small child.
So you used a 6x6x6mm tact switch and had to trim off a little plastic? Do you think a 6x6x5mm tact switch would be a perfect fit? Thanks for the video.
Nice Candi :) I dont have any Sega but I'm keeping my out for sega master system and mega drive. I'm more of a Nintendo collector. LOL I laughed at your expression "boom goes the dynamite" :) Cute. Keep it up with your good content!
Lol I'm a big Nintendo fan, myself. This was bought second hand a few months ago lol. My uncle had one and I liked a couple games on it (mostly the Disney ones).
Not many, but a few. Nintendo was always the better choice IMO and in my family's too. We only owned Nintendo consoles until Sony threw their hat in the ring.
Love me some Sega
Dr.JoshDaRealGamer even as a Nintendo girl I always had a soft spot for Sega

Candi's Classic Game Shrine Thank you! Based on the video, it didn't seem that hard to do so it should be fine enough for a beginner correct?
Also how hot did you make your soldering iron? Does the temperature matter?

Excellent. Thanks for all of this info!
Great video!
Thank you 😊
Bought a batch off ebay and one has the worn reset button. I'm doing this as soon as my microswitches arrive. TY !!!
Ben happy to hear you’re about to save another console!
I tried with my Genesis model 1, and it works great. Thanks for your video guide. :)
Great to hear it worked for the model 1 as well :)
Yeah.
Used your video to replace the switch and it worked perfect. Thank you. Can you tell me what specific type/brand of desoldering iron you are using?

Nice video🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Thanks :)
Have you tested this mod with the X-men game that requires you do a soft reset near the end of the game?
Yes. It works just fine 😊

inputfunny it’s possible. The original switch is thinner so I think it allowed the original button a tad more clearance.
Okay. Thanks.

Thanks Eleanor :) I don't blame you for being more of a Nintendo collector lol. They were better :P
i was (am) a pure Nintendo warrior from the nes days so i never owned a Sega 😂

Candi's Classic Game Shrine True true, they did have a couple of great games on those Sega's 😉
