OK, Christmas in 1969, I'm a senior in high school and I'm at an after caroling Christmas Party (with all the "good" kids) when in came one of the "frat/jock" guys (not exactly invited to the party) who goes over to the stereo, puts on Hot Rats (side 2), sits down in front of the speakers and listens to the entire side. He then got up, put his coat back on and said, " Zappa is a genius" and walked out into the snowy night. I believe he was further down the road of drug exploration than I was at that point, but he was right. It was also good to find another Zappa fan.
Hey, thanks man! I appreciate that. I try my best to leave everybody entertained and hopefully some new music to listen to. Maybe drop some knowledge and call it a day. lol
Hot Rats was my first Zappa purchase. And Peaches en Regalia the big opener of the album would become a fan favorite. I am of the opinion that Hot Rats is the first album to properly present jazz and rock working together in a coherent and entertaining sequence. It would take another five months before Miles Davis releases Bitches Brew, renown for jump starting a genre now known as jazz fusion. It Must Be A Camel and Son of Mr. Green Genes are personal favorites but there is not a bum track on the album. Willie The Pimp with Captain Beefheart vocals is generally considered the main track on the album, partially because its one of the two tracks from this album that Frank played live all through 1970-71 (the other is Peaches).
Loved these more laid back, relatable instrumentals from Zappa. Good win Peter K, I really enjoyed it. Great reaction,L33. I too got a big band type vibe from your pick. And we all know your dad would and is very proud of you, and rightfully so. Blessings all.
This may be my favourite track ever. It's always been on my ever-changing funeral music list (at my age? gotta have one). Favourite song - now that's a trickier one....
My first Zappa album. Its appearance was so strange for me, took me about two years to get familiar with it. But always felt it was great. Meanwhile a Zappa fan for fifty years. ❤❤❤
Peaches was always one of my favorite FZ tunes. Thanks! Always love hearing it. Happy and carefree. Little Umbrellas seems to me like a slightly warped collage of moods created in a cheesy 70's Arabian style cocktail lounge in LA.
Peaches is a Zappa track that anyone that remotely likes him have in their Zappa warehouse. It’s essential. Little Umbrellas I think is a super sleeper. Love them both, love this request, love this reaction!
If you’re ever feeling depressed, play Peaches. Whenever I need to banish the darkness, I throw on some Zappa. For such an avant garde composer, he sure did write a lot of spritely, positive tunes.
Here's a good follow-up suggestion : 1967. Circus Maximus. "The Wind." A *classic* from back when FM-stereo late-night radio shows were still new, independent and expansive ~~~
You should listen to side 4 all together of the You Are What You Is album. Heavenly Bank Account, Suicide Chump, Jumbo Go Away, If Only She Woulda and Drafted Again. They flow together and form a crazy story, and show off just how Frank could bounce seamlessly between genres, bend them and be hilarious while making social commentary. The whole album is good fun, but I like side 4. Some laugh out loud lines.
Dig this... Lee LIFE IS FOREVER Man.. and thats for real.... CHief Seattle " THere is No Death , ONLY a change of worlds!" - A. Enstein "energy cannot be destroyed only changed", Your connection of Love does not change with your Papa, Man, if anything its even deeper now. it easier to say stuff like this when your not in the middle of it,I AM in the middle of this stuff. !! MY Brother has been "gone" since 1990, He was was ABSOLUTELY AROUND Us yesterday before and during the Thanksgiving Family Gathering. its like their on a Long vacation, thats all. BTW , Had the honor of seeing FZ twice in the '70's. Amazing times.
One of my all time favourites, but do check out the stunning live version on Tinseltown Rebellion. BTW This album was released, in the UK, on the same day as Court of the Crimson King. 55 years ago!
Hey L33-Do you think you'll ever return to We're Only In It For The Money? So far you've only reacted to the last track. Just curious. Me thinks it's the best Mothers album...
Do you like The Mothers of Invention or solo Frank better?
Both please
He could do no wrong
Later he had better musicians, but the work and music put into any of his albums is always instigating.
I like both
But not a fan of Hot Rats
I like early Frank/Mothers more
Yes.
My favorite all time track
A Top 5 Zappa Album...
Phew, that was beautiful. I will never tire of hearing Zappa.

Waiting for this one…
This is becoming my favorite reaction channel.

Cheers! "Peaches En Regalia" has always been my top listening track off this Superb album.

Great record..this will be fun
Peaches is very tip of the top-tier Zappa. Whole album is fantastic.
From start to finish....amazing.
Peaches en Regalia may be my favorite piece of his , at least at the moment. It is impossible to choose.

I bought The Who «Live at Fillmore east 1968 « today , pre Tommy . I look forward to get it !
One of franks best albums imho
About time this album got a look-see.
My first Zappa album. Its appearance was so strange for me, took me about two years to get familiar with it. But always felt it was great. Meanwhile a Zappa fan for fifty years. ❤❤❤
Peaches En Regalia is one of my favourite instrumentals of all time.
I love Hot Rats so much, my favourite Zappa album
I love Peaches and Re Galia.
Peaches En Regalia is one of a handful of his songs that got airplay
Peaches was always one of my favorite FZ tunes. Thanks! Always love hearing it. Happy and carefree. Little Umbrellas seems to me like a slightly warped collage of moods created in a cheesy 70's Arabian style cocktail lounge in LA.

I really liked both of these, but I think I liked the first one more ... This was the more mellow Frank that I like. edit * Your father would be proud
❤❤
My favorite Zappa instrumental by far
Finish this album!
Peaches En Regalia is a fucking masterpiece!!
There's symphonies around the world playing it....
The first one…a whimsical performance
Interesting

Im so lame that after 10+ Zappa albums on my shelf I still dont own this one

I forget if this was Roy Estrada on bass. Whoever it is, they’re on fire.
On Peaches bass is Shuggie Otis , he was 16 or 17 at the time
Little Umbrellas bass is Max Bet
@ of course! How did I forget? Strawberry Letter 23.
Hey L33-Do you think you'll ever return to We're Only In It For The Money? So far you've only reacted to the last track. Just curious. Me thinks it's the best Mothers album...
Freak Out whole album please
Little Umbrellas has always reminded me of a harem scene with a belly dancer doing a seductive dance.
Check out Phish version someday
"sexual harassment in the work place" anyone?
The last serious compositions Zappa ever did.
Rubbish.
that's a ridiculous statement to make
I don’t know about that lol
