He seems to be proud of the fact that 3rd graders are being successfully indoctrinated. What would he say to a student who had come to a pro tmt position on their own. Hawaiian charter schools and the Center For Hawaiians Studies teach students what to think not how to think. The educate in culture war. Would you send your child to be educated by people who are this ideologically entrenched? No one said TMT is the magic bullet for all our problems on the BI so thats a distraction.

    • @pakelika100
      @pakelika100 3 года назад +3

@Jason S Your comments concerning Kahookahi Kanuha and Hawaiian charter schools and the UH Center for Hawaiian Studies are good questions, to which there are good answers. Children in Hawaiian charter schools are being taught knowledge that was not previously taught in schools, public or private, for decades following the US invasion of our country and the overthrow of our government. Not only was the truth about the continuity of the Hawaiian Kingdom and its occupation not taught, but a systemic and systematic program of Denationalization and Americanization was inculcated into the children. This began in 1906 and probably continues to some extent today. Not until the work of Dr. David Keanu Sai in recent years, and the independent and qualified, outside-of Hawaii-3rd party verification of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague, Netherlands, and the Independent Expert in the Office of the Human Rights High Commissioner for the United Nations, was there any awareness of the fact that the US has occupied the territory of the Hawaiian Kingdom. So when the Hawaiian charter schools and Center for Hawaiian Studies teach that the Hawaiian Kingdom continues to exist and is occupied, and that the present government of the state of Hawaii is unlawful, and has no lawful authority to authorize the TMT project to proceed, that is verifiably and irrefutably correct. Not only has the continuity of the Hawaiian Kingdom and its occupation been independently verified as previously mentioned, but Dr. Sai succeeded at defending those two propositions as the subject of his doctoral thesis. You can look at his doctoral dissertation and who the members of his examining board were by looking up Dr. Sai and HawaiianKingdom.org online. I suspect that you don't know, firsthand and in any objective sense, that Hawaiian charter schools and the Center for Hawaiian Studies don't teach critical thinking. They teach the true political and legal history of the Hawaiian Kingdom, which can be verified by the documentary record, primary source documentation. This is contrary to what was taught for over a century in the schools, which was based on what came to be the popular, official and accepted historiography, which was distorted. Hawaiian history has been under studied and inaccurately taught, and the result is the way you and many others have been led to believe is the way to think about that history. So in reality, what you accuse Hawaiian charter schools and the Center for Hawaiian Studies of doing, is what the schools in Hawaii have been doing for decades, public and private. Were you not indoctrinated in American and Hawaiian history? You might ask the parents, students, or those who teach or are in the administration of Hawaiian charter schools or the Center for Hawaiian Studies about whether the teaching is aimed at uncritical acceptance of that which you find controversial. And ask Kahookahi what he would say to a child in a Hawaiian charter school who thought that the TMT should be built. This was obviously an attempt to answer your concerns about the education of youth in Hawaiian charter schools, it is the perspective of one who was Denationalized and Americanized and taught a distorted history of my country, and has since been led to take note of what has been available to be discovered were it not for the brainwashing that was used to repress it. I would appreciate any reply you might make. I believe that it's important to have discussion of these matters which concern you and others. I agree with you on the importance of teaching critical thinking skills, and am confident that when they are applied to the issue of whether TMT should be built based on whether the project has satisfied all laws, that Kahookahi has arrived at the correct conclusion.

  • @robinvanderpool

Here is "A BRIEF HAWAIIAN HISTORY" : The earliest trace of human activity in these islands is 1300 ad. For 400 years (1300-1700 ad) islanders from dozens of Pacific islands colonized the archipelago that came to be known as the Sandwich Isles. All natives were slaves of the Ali’i Tabu chiefs. Chief Kamehameha the 1st, John Young and Isaac Davies brutally conquered these islands with English canons, muskets and Chinese black powder (1790ad). Now 'King' Kamehameha made John Young the governor of Big Island and Isaac Davies his minister on Oahu. Kamehameha the 1st appointed Alexander Adams as the Commander of the Hawaiian Navy. He delivered shiploads of Sandalwood cut by native slaves to China. Kamehameha 2, his regents and all of the Ali'i ended the Kapu religions and removed all temples from all Islands (1820). The missionaries arrived shortly thereafter and combined all of their Austronesian dialects into one English 'Olelo' for the printing of a native newspaper. The Russians attacked (twice) along with France and England), thus the US/Hawaii protection treaties of have been in effect since 1826 to keep us safe. Kamehameha 3 created a Hawaiian Constitution which freed all native slaves and stated " all men are equal in the kingdom regardless of race color or creed ". He created the three branches of government. (1840's) He created the Great Mahele land divisions where the chiefs own their kuleanas (land) and could sell them. Kamehameha 4 passed the Alien Land Sales Act. The Ali'i (elite) sold their kuleanas (properties) then moved to town or mainland. The Ali'i (lords) displaced the Maka'ainana and Kauwa (peasants) when they sold their lands. The native Hawaiians went to the royal schools and mainland universities. They became great, loggers, teachers, lawyers, doctors, road makers, shop owners, policemen, hotel owners, musicians, statesmen etc,, Kamehameha 5 created the 'unicameral legislature then died without an heir. Kamehameha the fifth left all power to the unified Nobles and Legislature. The legislature voted Lunalilo as the Chief executor of the constitutional republic. Lunalilo died after 1 year. The Nobles and The Legislature chose David Kalakaua as chief executor of the Constitutional Monarchy. Kalakaua signed into law and stood by his final Constitution of 1886. He brought the nobles into the legislature to ensure fairness in constitutional government. He created the building codes and health dept. He brought electricity and telescopes to the islands. He traveled the World encouraging people to move here to bring wealth and labor to the islands, He ceded land and sea to the USA at Pu'uloa and Pearl (1875) for a naval base and stationed Marines there to assist the Honolulu Rifles when the riots of the 1880's and 90's were too much for them to handle. The five noble kings and Prince Kuhio were annexationists who feared Japanese, Russian and Chinese Imperial aggression. David Kalakaua, a lawyer and 33rd degree Freemason passed away unexpectedly. After swearing an oath to the 1886 constitution The Nobles and The Legislature allowed his estranged sister, 4th proxy successor, twice exiled for revolution, Liliuokalani to assume the role as proxy monarch. Liliuokalani attempted to overthrow the incumbent government by secretly staging an armed rebellion against the legal government of the Hawaiian Islands. The days of 'absolute monarchs were 50 years past. Hawaii was a democratic republic at that point. The legislature of nobles and statesmen met for 160 continuous days to deliberate her crimes and impeachment. She without question broke the laws of the land and was sentenced 5 years for treason ( of which she served months in detention in her home). She willingly abdicated all claims of dictatorial powers and swore an oath to the Republic in the presence of her lawyers and family (see below). She received a large sum of money and properties and remained the governess of Oahu. All major countries , their consulates, ambassadors, kings, and presidents of the World sent letters of acceptance of the new Republic of Hawaii. The legitimate government Hawaii and the USA made powerful acts, treaties and joint resolutions towards a union. USA forgave all debts of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Prince Kuhio called for annexation and spent the last few decades of his life fighting for US Congress to pass his US/Hawaii Statehood Admissions Act which when finally accepted by the USA 93% of Hawaii's people's voted for and rejoiced in becoming the 50th state of the United States. The laws and government that the 5 noble kings (K3,4,5,Lunalilo, Kalakaua) created are still the form of government we have today. Since 1843 all men were equal and free in the kingdom. 'Hawaiian' is a multi-cultural nationality, not a race. A Hawaiian is any naturalized subject of the kingdom. All people were invited here by the kings. All big titles were signed by the kings. Equal and legal are all races of people in the Hawaiian Kingdom, Republic and State.

@@ashlynminer7923 I agree that education is the key. But there is always two sides to every story, and then there is the truth. It takes learning both sides of the story, before you can get a hold of that truth IMHO.
I made this video documenting the truth as I see it. I use what I have learned from David Sai (PHd of Hawaiian studies), and I have used what I have learned from Ken Conklin (PHd of Hawaiian Studies) and I have incorporated that into this video. David Sai leans heavily on the Blount report. Which I find highly bias and inaccurate. And Ken Conklin take into consideration the Morgan report as well as the Blount report. Which is basically what the Apology Act said "the truth lies somewhere between the Blount Report and the Morgan Report". David Sai almost completely ignores the Morgan report in his dissertation, which I find highly suspect.
So I put this together to give both sides of this as I see it. I have put a lot of thought in to it. I have been to Hawaiian Kingdom meetings. Meetings with Jennifer Ruggles. Also meetings with both Jennifer Ruggles and David Sai. And I have come up with this.

So You are a TMT supporter... Such is duality in the multiplicity of polynesian unity in diversity.
To oppress a people you only need take three things away from them;-
      1) their history
      2) their language
      3) their VIP psychological factors (Values, Interests and Philosophical Principles)
Then by assimilation and colonisation you replace the indigenous peoples history, language and VIP's with those of the coloniser.
And politically you maintain and sustain the perpetuation of oppression at all costs until finally you achieve the golden mean whereby indigenous peoples themselves acting under the hegemony of the coloniser, act for the interests of their oppressors aspirations, economic discourse and VIP's.
Then you inculcate the neo liberal capitalist dogma of economic trickle down there that says technological advancement in science is part of “progress” mythology that presumes benefits to the locals from a suite of labour resource needs:
      *employment opportunities for the locals
*science innovations for education of the locals
*tourism benefits for the locals from increased visitors to TMT
*higher education opportunities through American tertiary education institutions in the form of increased numbers of young Hawaiian’s (Americans essentially not necessarily from Hawaii) participating in astronomy at bachelors, masters and PhD degree levels plus post doctoral projects, NASA and international science organisations involved in inter country science business.
And all of it in reality will NOT contribute to even the slightest uplift of Hawaiian welfare across the leading negative statistically significant fields of health, education, economy, and homelessness, suicide, addiction, mental health and disenfranchisement resulting from invasion by American forces in 1893.
Ultimately this issue boils down to one thing - that the speculative potential economic benefits of TMT outweigh the potentially REAL adverse impacts to Hawaiian cultural values of Mauna a Wākea
By all metrics there is no model available that can measure the cultural value of sacredness AGAINST any speculated economic benefit ... and as such NO weighting of risk can afford TMT with any confidence that the TMT Telescope can value add to Hawaiian culture in the long term that serves to protect the immeasurable value of “kapu” afforded Mauna a Wākea by Ngā Kanaka Māoli No Hawaii.
Not a single astronomical byte of data acquired by TMT in the next 100 years will help save the earth from its current climate change plight unless it can serve to decrease carbon gas emissions into our atmosphere ... and it will not let alone its carbon footprint to build and upkeep on the most sacred site on Hawaii big island.
I have observed the attempt by non-Hawaiian Americans to diminish the claims by those maintaining kapu aloha at pu’uhonua o pu’uhuluhulu that their philosophy is defunct as a result of past monarch decree for all old Hawaiian practice to cede their ancient mana to Christian values ... this is a part of the continued oppression by colonisation and assimilation - the restoration of cultural integrity pre-Christianity is a sign of spiritual rebirth of original aloha ‘aina ... that is the wellspring of source abundance in all futures of wellbeing for Hawaiian peoples.
Such is duality in the multiplicity of polynesian unity in diversity.
