Lenny locker I complete understand the family's concerns, but Oakwood has no reason in their mind to close and remove it. Ride safety standards overall are extremely high and Oakwood is no exception. Without it, Oakwood would struggle to keep going. Maybe not the best move in theory re is another side of the story as well.
That is just not the way the industry works. When there's a safety incident you fix the issue and reopen the ride, you'd only ever take it down if it was already approaching the end of it's service life. Countless times have people died/ been injured on rides and their families have called for it to be demolished, just for nothing to come of it because it's simply not the way the industry functions
As sad as the death is. It's not the ride fault. It was the person operating it and I heard that the girl was fucking around on it. So in that sense if a bus crash happens should they cancel buses?
I was there as a kid, heading for that ride (as most people did at the end of the day as they'd get wet), Was about 5pm just before closing.. Watched them pull her out of the water and try to give CPR i'll never forget it.
I was there as well, although it wasn't a fault of the ride but in fact the operator it was horrible to see the event unfold. I just wish I could go back in time to prevent it ever happening. Generally the most upsetting thing I've ever seen.
@@user-yn1bd4yf3h i went to oakwood last year but drenched was closed for high winds. Bit annoying but it wasnt a very hot day so i would just end up soaked for the rest of the day then
It's sad really. Ok, it may be a little run down here and there, but Oakwood is a really fun place. Megafobia is amazing and the other rides are great too (maybe not Creepy Crawler, very rough). I am an Oakwood regular and have never seen it busy. Media's portayal of the park maybe? The rides are very safe but media like to falsely say otherwise.
@@user-yn1bd4yf3h oakwood isnt rundown, theyve been really stepping there game in recent years, and there building themselves up to the big league, if youve seen the recent editions, they're all so well presented, not themed as such, but not just chucked there like six flags would do, I feel like if they get a new coaster, like an rmc raptor, or s&s 4d free spin, they'll really be a bucket list park for British enthusiasts!
Crazy Coasters International maybe not. I agree with the potential additions for Oakwood. They should really get one of those two (maybe even both if they want to try their luck) or a GG family thrill woodie
I remember going on this ride aged about 11, my lap bar actually came loose too at the top of the ride and if it wasn’t for my aunt forcefully holding it down in position I probably would’ve ended up the same way as that poor girl. Scary stuff

XplosiveGamer105 I plan on going on Drenched for the first time next time I'm in Oakwood. It's the last of its kind so I need to do it before it's too late. It is still operating, it's just the Welsh weather doesn't allow it to function a lot of the time. Plus Intamin rides are not as reliable as say a B&M yet are just as safe. Maybe try again if you haven't still?
By the way that’s. not what happened she brought her bag on the ride and her seat belt didn’t strap in right bc of her bag and when the drop happened her seat belt came unloose and she fell off
Bro, the actual story is that, yes the workers didnt get probably but it wasn't all their fault.... The girl realised her belt was loose and she was at the top about to drop, her friends and her were freaking out so they told her to stand up and get the workers attention. As she stood up, the ride dropped and she fell off the left hand side, the drop didn't kill her but that fact that she suffered from a brain tumour after hitting her head while falling.
Tiana Belle I imagine it would be difficult for them to look at it. The ride is very safe now as are all other amusement rides but the emotional impact is still there. I personally think Oakwood has no reason to remove it but I was not involved with the accident in any way so I was not affected by it. I plan on riding it next time I'm in Oakwood because I haven't yet but it looks really good actually.
It’s reopening this year some point I went their in the Easter holidays and they said it’s reopening sometime this year and a new ride that is coming out in Oakwood is called dizzy disc

I’m not saying it is in anyway a competition but the 4 people seriously injured in the smiler accident 2015. The two girls sat in middle seats front row where injured resulting in the amputation which is life changingly devastating! And Alton towers where fined 5 million pound. The accident was put down the mechanical error and not human. Hydro on the other hand was human error, lack of care and resulted in the loss of a teenagers life. And they were fined 250k that’s messed up
The girl who died was actually my mums sisters best friend and they sued oakwood and got like 1 to 2 million pounds the ride should have actually been permanently removed because that what they told her family and my family Edit:also all the people who are saying that is not the story is wrong bc my mums sister was right next to her
Imogen Price I understand the emotional impact is extremely hard to deal with. Just know that amusement rides are *safer* than any type of transport or even being outside in a thunderstorm. You wouldn't be at much risk at all if you rode but if the emotional aspect is too difficult you don't have to. I have yet to ride but look forward to riding next time I'm in Oakwood since I am a regular.
