Idk why RUclips won't let me write an original comment so I'm replying to top comment here. If someone were to let's say. Connect the wires on the left correctly but incidentally connect the wire to the top right instead of the right middle. Would that happen to break anything? It sparked and smoked for a bit and now I'm getting nothing out of it
This was SO useful. Tried this on my John Deere tractor which would not start even after replacing the solenoid. Pulled the switch and hot wired the unit. Started fine. Replaced the switch and bingo. I think this works like a defibriltor😂😂. Thanks so much for this video.
Thanks brother. I just finished my yard (7 acres) because of this video. For those saying wire colors would have helped. It only takes a second to look at the back of the damn connector directly behind where he showed you.
A1 to b. No problem. B to s nothing. Tracked it down to a bad safety switch. “Fixed “that and bam. Key works again. I had already replaced the solenoid thinking that was the problem then I was about to replace the key. Thanks man. Your videos keeping my old tractor alive a little longer
You are the man! Just saved me however long it would have taken to test light random leads and i for sure would have assumed the ignition on wires were connected to the magneto so i wouldnt of had a shut off and would probly be yanking sparkplugs wires or some crazy shit to try and kill the thing wondering what the hell is going on. In 2 minutes you just saved my entire day. Thank you thank you!
I was using a screwdriver and it is officially shot. Thank you. I hotwired all my tower computers, just a simple relay switch. This was a bit more involved and easier to look it up. So thank you for not giving me your life story and your favorite elevator music and how stupid the guy was for giving you a lawn mower. Refreshing to get 'just the facts'. I promise to watch a video of your life story (no music please) if you state that's what it is 😀.
Thanks for this video The key hole was worn out and would not start no clicking sound. Used spare key and pushed it in as far it would go and it started. Have to order new parts but your video helped solve my problem. thanks
thanks Ryan. that mower looks very similar to mine and the Amazon part didn't fit.orderd from craftsman number on mower they said I'd be here in July. you saved me from going crazy.
Tha k you my mower was at my.uncles just picked it up on fb and the thing won't start so now I can get it home to house to really work on it! What did you do about.the brake switch I think thats what is preventing mine to start
New ignition switch, worked fine for a few months now does nothing again, no lights no click. Did this before new switch and no problem since until today. What do you think?
Great video and thanks but what's wrong if I do it with a full charge battery and still gets nothing. I checked the fuse by my battery and it's not blown solenoid is fine just lost all power lights want come on either
You answer a question for me that wire at bottom right it's the cut off factory wire right? ok then if so and done away with the safety switches where would you hook the yellow wire the bottom right corner with the switch plugend facing you it's the only wire left after doing away with safety switches do you no where or what to hook it to so the motor will cut off .????
Will this work with pretty much any riding lawn mower? I recently lost my keys and I'm afraid to find out what the company is gonna charge to make a new one
Yep, they wanted to be able to tell the customers that it was a fire hazard or life-threatening to do it that way. Now we need to charge you $110 for new Switch and $215 to put it in.... you know because they go by the book and the book says the job takes 6 hours. 4 minutes to pop it out, 15 seconds to clean any dirty wires and terminals, 6 seconds to reinstall into plug-and-play setup, break time (working on other people's shit) 5 hours 51 minutes and 39 seconds and finally 4 minutes to SCREW it all back together....
Replaced belts on my 1997 Huskee. Put deck back on and got nothing. No power, not even headlights. Solenoid fuse good, battery good, even tried jumping it and still won't even crank or click. Any ideas?
You could bypass all of that and use a set of jumper cables. Place the ground on the side of the engine block or something metal at the motor and touch the starter power wire on the bolt with the red positive jumper cable. If it turns over you have something bad before it. If not maybe the starter isnt any good.
@@Fentertainment nope got nothing. Used negative jumper cable to the metal frame and positive jumper cable to starter bolt. If I wiggle the ignition switch wiring I can hear sparks or something up at the front of the engine. I dunno. Bout to scrap it and pay to have my yard cut.
Worked like a charm! However, I did not use the method shown to shut it off… just took pressure of the seat. Now it won’t start up again…. Suggestions??!
This used to work on my M125-97TC McCulloch but it stood for a year, now I'm trying to start her up and nothing. I used to bridge Blue wire to red to turn it on and then bridge from the same red to white to start it... now nothing. I took the battery out gave it a charge, its fine. The engine cranks when I short near the battery with a screwdriver... but even with the wire stuck in the female connected block bridging Blue to Red (On) it won't start it just cranks and cranks. I'm ordering a new ignition switch... but in the meantime would love to get it started again. I checked the fuse on the ignition loom its fine.. not burned out.. I did burn it out once by bridging the wrong wires, replaced it now though. Any ideas anyone?? I'm stuck. I don't get how it's not cranking when "hot wiring" the ignition switch connecting block but will crank when I do the same on the terminals near the battery... OK I'm cranking the engine from the ignition switch, I'm an idiot and forgot that need to engage the clutch for it to turn over, but I can't get it to fire. Checked fuel pipes to engine it flowing, checked spark from spark plug cable its sparking.... maybe the plug itself?? kinda feels/sounds like a kill switch is enabled... or ignition isn't on (but it is cause I'm bridged between red and blue) and it's turning over when I introduce the white wire into the bridge... hmmm, it was running and driving just fine a year ago I had to park ot cause we had building works for a year and no garden.
I also have a 5 switch "craftsman" style on a troy-bilt zero turn that went out. It doesn't have "ears." It will try to start with B+S but it needs L also. And B+L must stay connected or it will die. B+S+L start. B+L run. Pulling it kills it.
Thanks a bunch man. Mine was the GT 200 model so the ignition harness was different. But since you told me this all I had to do was look up a diagram for the ignition and I figured it out. The mower I had an issue with was already pretty beat so I didn’t want to have to spend any money on it if I didn’t have to.
It didn't work for you because your mower is probably a different model / different brand altogether??? This video is only helpful if you had the exact same molar because he did not get very detailed as to what terminals he was jumping. Every mower has a G terminal (ground) M (magneto) Terminal B (battery) terminal S (solenoid) terminal and L (lights) terminal. If you look at the ignition switch with the wiring harness removed the terminals are labeled. You have to jump the correct terminals together
Yeah I assumed it was because the brand was different. Turns out my dodgy ignition blew the fuse before I tried this. After I got the new ignition and it wouldn't work I replaced the fuse and it worked. Then out of curiosity I tried this and it worked. So still good 😊
I'm subscribing under protest. It's a love/hate relationship we're starting. I love your VIDEO bc you even show how to kill the power at the end. The hate was $25 for the mower! 😃 Jk. Thank you for not explaining everything you know about a mower, electricity, etc. Best how to video I've ever seen out of well over 100!!
We live in a throw it away world. Ive gotten free lawn mowers that have needed just a battery or solenoid. I love people who would rather buy a new mower rather than fix something.
@@Fentertainment you couldn't have said it better! Actually, I must confess something. The mower I'm working on was supposed to be bought from my old landlord who left it on the property when he sold all of the duplexes by my neighbor who ended up moving into an apartment complex. So when I called my old landlord asking what he wanted to do about his mower, his exact words were "Gary, I'm not coming back for that thing. Do whatever you want with it." Actually it takes more than a second. And some of us don’t have time to be wasting on fiddling around w/ different connectors.
Also it’s not a “damn” connector, it’s just a connector. There’s no need to swear & use negative language

I tried it on my John Deere but blew a fuse. Should I replace the fuse and try again
The john deere must be wired differently, Replace the fuse but I wouldn't try it again on those connections.
I’ve tried this on my d140 and there spark but no kick?
Wire colors would have helped !
Ik right
That’s what I was ab to say lmao
It's irrelevant. If you have this same switch then the same prongs do the same things.

What happens if this doesn't work.
And if this didn't work where should I look next?
