Your commentary on Silksong gave me life xD Also since you mentioned Prince of Persia I'm curious to see what you thought of the new Metroidvanias announced at the Game Awards. The New Prince of Persia game looks cool but god damn! Tales of Kenzara: ZAU looks phenomenal!
I don't mind a soulsvania now and then with the right pitch, but yeah I really prefer ones made in the metroid style. I don't like messing around with builds unless it's pretty simple, I prefer to get to the exploration. Also I wish they weren't all so dark, by which I mean colour palette - one of the best parts of afterimage is it actually used some colour, some greens and blues and yellows and all that instead of the shades of brown, white, and black. I've played the 9 sols demo, and as an autistic with cognitive reaction speed issues, I still managed to parry fine (which maybe the only game i've managed that, lol) so you'll be fine. I certainly couldn't manage it in Grime 1 so had to give up on that so completely uninterested in the sequel. I feel people need to make their peace with Silksong. Team Cherry announced it too soon and it will take whatever time it takes, but to keep expecting it to come out every year and being disappointed when it doesn't feels like a waste of effort to me. Put it on your wishlist and put it at the bottom and just know you'll get a notification when/if it releases.
The Devil Within: Satgat completely turned me all the way off with its demo, but the FOUNTAINS and Nine Sols demos blew me away. I obviously haven't had a chance to touch Crowsworn or Mandragora yet, but those two will probably blow me away, too. GRIME II is a day-one buy. GRIME is one of the best Metroidvanias I have ever played.
One I'm very excited for is Eden's Guardian. It's clearly inspired by Blasphemous, but has this gimmick where you can throw your sword and teleport to where it lands. Super unique and adds a lot to combat and exploration alike.
I would have loved if you would have also put some to avoid even if you like the genre there. Like broken release promises projects that have run away with backer money etc.
I prefer movement based metroidvania's like Ori, kingdom shell or islets over soulsvania's. Not because i dislike tougher combat but because the former have better level design and (surprise surprise) better movement. Or just a soulsvania that nails the combat without having boring level design as a consequence. Death's gambit afterlife comes to mind, great combat but very boring level design. It is possible to have great combat and level design without wacky movement though. Blasphemous is perfect in that regard. A perfect mariage between both such as grime, haiku the robot or FIST forged in shadow torch is also welcomed.
I just confuse 9 sols and BO every time.... who knows... I am expecting BO's physical today so maybe from tomorrow on I'll be able to tell em apart... CRUDE looks super super cool!! I hope it comes out on switch, that's my action platformer machine (ps. mandràgora - mandragòra ...nope.. I know we make things difficult with these accents ...)
I'm starting to think I don't know what makes something a "soulsvania," because I thought this was going to be a bunch of games with slow, methodical combat that punishes you if you look at it funny (i.e. Blasphemous), and I am so incredibly sick of people labeling something a "souls-like" just because it's, y'know, a video game. So I came in expecting to be in the "avoid" camp, but at least half of these are games I'm looking out for. Metroid-like speaks for itself -- you go pewpew instead of slash-slash. But what differentiates other sub-sub-genres? Edit: Oh, in my recommendations is "Game Rant Doesn't Know What a Soulsvania is." =x
Crude not my vibe Mandragora wishlisted already, looks amazing Pale cinder wishlisted already (although i forgot i did) looks okay Nine sols wishlisted already, very unique Skelethrone unsure about this one, looks kinda clunky Devil within satgat too anime for my liking Fountains i prefer sidescrollers but the HLD similarities work in its favor Crowsworn wishlisted already, highly anticipated Grime II wishlisted already, grime I was a great but flawed game. If this can improve upon the first game then it'll be great.
hop u see these Morbid: The Lords of Ire is a new souls game has a demo aut and the ferst game morbid 7 Acolytes is good have u hard of gost 1.0 or Dark Devotion
I have 7 Acolytes but haven’t played it yet. Cool that it has a sequel coming. I’ve played both Ghost 1.0 and Dark Devotion, but I haven’t completed the latter. I need to get on it lol
Ordered chronologically yea it came after IGAvanias, but if it was ordered more like a taxonomic flow chart I think maybe it would run parallel to IGAvania from a more generic Metroidvania ancestor. and mating with Soulslike? lol.
I love how you put Hollow Knight : Silksong in there with just a sigh says it all about how long we have been waiting for that one lol
I felt that sigh. I make that sound everytime I see Silksong

Never even heard of it. Sounds rad! Thanks for the heads up!

The Nine Sols parry feels very intuitive :-) It has a free demo on Steam very worth playing!

Idk if its gonna be souls like but mariachi legends looks like a cool upcoming metroidvania as well
I have my eye in that one. It’s from the creators of 9 Years in Shadows. I’m cautiously optimistic.
Have you checked out Awaken: astral blade?
Looks like a very promising metroidvania, reminds me of Afterimage.
Looks like a poor man's version of afterimage. The main character is overly sexualized as well
I’m looking forward to it. It looks great.
An order for Crowsworn, Mandragora and cat/fox for me please
(I am not even going to acknowledge Silk Song until we get some proper news)

Still waiting for another Soul & Sanctuary game
THAT is a true dark souls X metroidvania
There’s Salt & Sacrifice. It’s… different.
@@MetroidvaniaGuru
I know about that one
The sequel sadly took a different approach from Salt & Sanctuary, more of a monster hunter metroidvania
Prince of Persia didn’t make the list?
Guess you watched Ray Harryhausen movies as a kid
Heck yeah!
We're not calling it that.
You do you 🤷♂️
quesiton: am I wrong in considering soulsvania the evolution of igavanias?
Ordered chronologically yea it came after IGAvanias, but if it was ordered more like a taxonomic flow chart I think maybe it would run parallel to IGAvania from a more generic Metroidvania ancestor. and mating with Soulslike? lol.
