in this video we put the 16v in the sami and start it up for the first time and take it on a test drive!!! INSTAGRAM: @DANGERDAVE95 Camera Used: Sony FDR-X3000
This by far is one of the cleanest 1.6 swap I have seen, I can tell you took a long time putting this together. The motor sounds healthy! Congrats it’s a beautiful zuk!
That Sami seems to move down the road pretty good with that engine. I'm trying to decide on what will replace my 8-valve 1.3, and it seems like this engine would be the least hassle.
I want to swap my 1.3 but I dont know where to start , I know somewhere they give you credit if you send in the old motor but I want the efi 1.6 plug and play
I'm modifying the wiring harness from a 97 tracker (ODB2, 3 speed auto, which I think is the same as what you show). You said "it's super easy", but I have to say it's pretty difficult. My problem is the engine was pulled for me by someone else, and he provided pretty much ALL the wiring out of that tracker. It even had lightbulb sockets with the bulbs in them. I was hoping it would be obvious following wires from the ECU what I could prune out, but that has turned out to be pretty opaque. I've removed ABS, A/C, etc wiring, so I've made some progress. I'm also having a hard time finding any diagrams or guides that actually match my ECU pinouts. :/
I pulled the 1.3 a couple of days ago. Today I'm going to wash the engine bay and see if I can get my neighbor to weld up the body under the battery and mount a new battery box. Then I'll drop in the 1.6 16v.
@@BigStuism You need an adapter plate for the engine to transmission. Two of the mouting holes on the 1.6L have a wider spacing than on the 1.3L. Petroworks has an excellent adapter. The 1.3L flywheel and clutch are retained.
Dude that awesome video I'm doing a similar swap but my problem is that I have a 1984 Jimmy and I'm installing a 1.3L from a 1987 but one of the motor mount passenger side doesn't match do i have to cut the mount and run it forward?
Hi from Chile, great job! What maximum speed with those wheels and the 1.6 engine? I have a samurai with wheels 35 x12.5 RT15 Trail gear tires 15 x 9 beadblocks I am thinking of installing a 1.6 vitara engine
Awesome videos! It seems you dont really have to "modify" the harness more like clean it up? So pretty much take the engine harness ecm? So you need dash harness and all of that as well? Ive been thinking of doing the 16v swap and this video kinda makes me wanna
Yes exactly just cleaning it up removing everything that doesn't run the engine. And yeah you need the dash wiring but after cleaning it up there will be just a few wires left of it. There's a few write ups online on how to strip the harness. I left my stock 1.3 wiring intact in the samurai just in case I wanted to switch back... Just be prepared to get covered in weird white grease and electrical tape sticky lol.
Stock 1.3 makes about 60hp and the 1.6l 16v makes 95 to 100hp not much more but in a lightweight samurai it's noticeable for sure.. I'm about an hour away from the dragon.
I cleaned it and changed all the gaskets. I removed the distributor to replace the orings and when I reinstalled it i was 2 teeth off. To get it back in time I turned the top of the distributor to retard and advanced the timing until it would run better, whatever way it ran better I would pull the distributor and move it one tooth that direction and try again until it would run perfect
eBay jeep bumper. It's mostly just for looks super thin metal. I don't recommend it. I've already bought a new bumper that i will be doing a video on soon.
Hi..... Hi ... a samurai is really fat! Are that Suzuki Vitrara axles on it? Hmmm, I have a Suzuki Jimny FJ and it is already so well converted for terrain ... PROBLEM German TÜV (puke) ... every change must be registered and without an ABE sign NO chance to enter .... Simply ridiculous. That is Germany :( Our neighboring countries have much, much fewer problems ... Poland, France, Holland, Sweden, England ... etc ... Greetings fro Germany

Love it lol.

Yahoo! I just got my 1.6 16V started yesterday. Now I need to tidy up the wiring and get the ECU mounted under the glovebox before I drive it.
Great info on the motor mounts! I wish I had known that way back when I did mine.

My neighbor and I got the battery box sorted out, good new metal installed. Tomorrow I'm going to drop the engine in.
Does the 1.6 bolt right to the samurai stock transmission? Same bolt pattern for the cutch and everything??

Good job 👏👍👍👍
Good work where did you get your vacuum hoses keep do you have a link ? Keep up the great work!

What did you use for the exhaust manifold pipe to the air cleaner?
been trying to find those parts for mine
Great video. How’s the Samurai running now that it’s been a year since you did the swap?
Great! It's been running strong.
@@DangerDave95 thanks for the response. I’ve owned my 87 Samurai for 21 years now and I’m trying to decide which motor to swap in. 😎
How much of a power difference does the 1.6 have over 1.3. I live near the dragon an my 1.3 struggles with hills

what coolant hoses did you use ? and for your heater core ?
Where can I buy the exact front bumper ? Please provide a link
I want one!!!!
Did you clean and prep the 16v or did you rebuild it? If you rebuilt it did you record how you stabbed the distributor and set the timing?

thats a sorted truck bro

Hello, what is the function of the small air filter, which is next to the cold air intake?
crank case breather, usually hooked to the intake. Some people add a "catch can" here.
Where did you get the cooling silicone hoses from? I have a 97 tracker with the 1.6 16v and i can’t find those hoses
i am wondering the same
hi! header 4-2-1 or 4-1??

@nine J 4.90:1 transfer and 4.10 axle gears
Them wheels look awesome. What size are thise
15x10 wheels. Not sure on the offset but they have a very deep dish.
@@DangerDave95 looks awesome !!!!!
This looks like Florida with the roads lol
Foothills of north Carolina actually.
Does the 1 .6 bolt right to the samurai stock transmission?
Same bolt pattern for the cutch and everything??
No. You have to run an adapter plate and you have to use the Samurai 1.3l flywheel and clutch assembly on the 1.6.
@@DangerDave95what starter though ?
Can you please tell me what hose kit your using? Is it one for a 1.3? Thanks!
Yeah it's a kit for the 1.3. not all the hoses in the kit worked through.
@@DangerDave95 Thanks for the info! What intake tube is that? I’m gathering parts for a 1.6 swap and your looks pretty good. Thanks.
@@jeffp5702 the intake pipe is stock. I shaved off the hose fittings.
@@DangerDave95 thanks again for the info. What other emissions stuff were you able to eliminate?
What oil cap did you use?
Ebay honda civic
Which motor is this?
It's a Suzuki g16 1.6l 16v came out of a 96 geo tracker which is a Suzuki sidekick.
@@DangerDave95 thank you! Great work, I have a 90 model

It has Toyota pickup axles and wide offset 15x10 wheels. Greetings from the US! You can do whatever you want to your vehicle here lol.
What is that on the passenger side of the radiator with the two blue lines running to it?
Oil catch can.
I smell Approx 90hp without turbo.
