  • My friend and pedal kit/component supplier moodysounds (shown last on this channel in 2016 I think, hehe) has made a pretty unique instrument that looks and plays kinda like a lapsteel but sounds just like a theremin! Preeeetty cool. He calls it the "Moodytron".

Meant to say only pedal parts shop in sweden. I naturally have no clue about internaaatioonaal shops and stuff😅 made it sound kinda grandiose.

      I've had a couple Moody's pedals and they're awesome ❤

Speaking of pedals, it seems natural to pair this thing with a big passive volume pedal to have that extra expression but also to still have two hands free to play the knobs on the desk.

Even better put the volume as a lever or button on the end of a bar that you hold like a bottleneck slide. That's what I do with an electromagnet feedback slide guitar that I made. The only wire on the whole thing is from the slide bar to the head which along with a Digitech and amp speaker battery makes it portable Pink Floyd. Ditch the handle on the bar to get good control as well. If I did this potentiometer wire trick I'd use the "wiper" wire through the bar rather than the third rail along with volume.

Gives me Mother 2 vibes. Funny thing is I was thinking this is kind of a more elaborate and more expensive slide whistle. You find the coolest gear with the most unique sounds.

It’s like a lofi version of Author & Punisher’s “slide” MIDI controller.

I'm getting huge Ondes Martenot or Trautonium vibes off of this as well as the slide whistle.

The strings don't vibrate - they are a resistive divider controller. There's no application for an ebow, here...

    🕳two hands two slides
    - a lengthwise cradle for the slide, no hands
    - a looper to give the hands some space
-nice artwork to show a scale of frequency spacings

cool device, more like a dual Tannerin than a "Theremin"
Tannerin was the wired device used on the Beach Boys' Good Vibrations

WOW!!!😃THIS is a BRILLIANT idea! My feeling is the “nakedness” of the design opens up a myriad of possibilities. Instruments such as this really shine when processed through effects (of course I’m reaching to the choir here). A template of fixed pitches that could be attached to the board would give you more control when playing. Think of it! You could do a standard twelve tone scale or explore a just intonation scale, or even 22 TET or Harry Partch’s 42 note scale. Oh the possibilities!

The addition of effects pedals takes that to a whole other level hooking it up to your no input contraption would sound expensive

Reminds me experiments from pre-internet era. I didn't have information how exactly guitar pickup works. I experimented, mostly pushing current through strings. Results were sometimes crazy.

So more like an ondes Martenot than a Theremin then. It has a keyboard mode but also a glissando mode which is controlled by moving a metal ring along a wire in front of the keyboard.

.. And most famous classic’theremin’parts are really the Ondes, namely Good Vibrations and theme from Star Trek.

    • @JoshSemans
      @JoshSemans 5 месяцев назад +2

@@geraldfriend256 I'm afraid neither of those are the ondes 😀 Though they are very frequently mis-attributed to both the Theremin and the ondes Martenot. Good Vibrations uses a 'Tannerin' or electro-theremin, and Star Trek theme sound is a vocalist.
