I Think I Invented Madness In A Box And It's A Wonderful Effect!

- Bonkers is possibly my strangest idea to date. Taking the pulses from "Patterns" and hooking it straight into a PT2399 to control the time parameter. Making it so it constantly jumps between long delay and short delay in a tempo of your choosing. Actually in 5 tempos of your choosing where you also choose in which tempo it moves from tempo to tempo.
So with simple controls you can creating everything from vibrato type modulation, bizarro reverb octave ringmod delay trails, too under water robot sounds go super bananas and have a good time yeah! It's totally bonkers!
Sync it with a 5V gate clock to whatever you play into it and all of a sudden you have a polyrythmic vibrato kinda? Idk I just know that I have had so much fun ever since I came up with this idea!

Simon has such mad scientist vibes
This is unnerving.
I'll look into getting one immediately
An automated swell delay with a pattern time sequencer, and sync in. Just what i always wanted! Like Thermae, but cooler. Very Bonkers indeed.
I CANNOT STOP LOOKING AT THAT PAPER!!!!
I think the possibilities and amount of different sounds it can give is Bonkers.
Sometimes it even sounds like a spring reverb! Love it. 💡💡
And it has a sync input! Such an great idea.
Yeah the spring reverb type sound took me with total surprise!! Like going super fast on the time and really long trails and just tuning in the big time knob and boom its super springy!
a lot of audio effects including reverb are just fancy deleys so this kind of makes sense
@@333AMETHYST But having a unique sequenced LFO delay is just bonkers.
@@pauljs75 totally agree!
Don't know why , but the music at the end reminds me some old pc dos game music . well done simon 👏
Yup you did it, this is exactly what I was wanting out of both pedals.
- STOP, stop, stop, stop. Daniel. We love your textures. We do. But could you maybe try to set the tea to four o'clock instead, then move closer to slime from a rabbit, make two steps, forget about X, and add more love?
Love this pedal! Crazy stuff
This gave me an idea. A pedal sequencer. One input and 5 outputs. It sends the signal to each output in order at whatever rate. So you could have it switch to different pedals or 5 of the same pedal but with different settings. Basically what BNKRS does but within whatever pedal (or other audio input) instead of just delay. This would be cool for no input mixer where you could have 5 channels with different EQ settings and have the the output that's fed back into the mixer switch between those 5 channels.
You might also do multiple inputs that are sequence too. So imagine 5 synths going to 5 pedals and which synth gors to what pedal keeps changing.
Champion Leccy makes something similar to that right now called The Kilter, but it only has 2 FX loops. I'd imagine having 5 in one would make the pedal need a pretty large enclosure.
you literally just described an in-parallel pedalboard lol.
some people put their pedalboard in-parallel rather than in-series like most people do, for this exact reason...
10:00 onwards - This sounds like the crazy music my brain sometimes feeds into my wonky, weird arse dreams 🥴
oooh! I like this one a lot.
Thank you!!
Dude, so sick.
Thank you!
The snail/rabbit icons are such a cool detail.
The new pedals are looking great. Like the new form factor.
I’m in awe. Tap tempo, even… Dang Homie, that us one of the sweetest creations!!! So mamy fun sounds!
Simon is my spirit animal.
Hah, super cool idea. And now I want to make a plugin version that syncs to the DAW.
Will be right back.
I'm gonna keep looking at the paper. You can't stop me!
Wont stop me from trying!! 😆
Whoa!!‽ The possibilities........
This is in fact bonkers. But wow man this pedal is cool af
Thank you 😁
100% crazy... And indispensable. 🤩
Okay, I'm 100% sold on this.
Man that was Binoculars
I'm not sure if I understood how it works, but it is very bonkers, I love it! :)
Haha, yeah I tried my best to explain 😅 basically if you just take the white blinking light; when turned on the delay is as long as it can be and when its turned off the delay is as short as it can be. And you set the speed of the light blinking. So it goes long short long short long short. And theeen you can do that with 5 different speeds that it walks between 😄
Aptly named! The Snail and Bunny are friggin' adorable btw!
Riiight! So happy about those. I look in all kinds of jewelry shops for those types of stamps. I hamme them in myself in the metal 😄
In DIY community we owe and have to show respect to those who make it possible to make DIY pedals yourselves. They need all respect they need, because it's their hard work we able to make those pedals. And when channels like this looks like they did it themselves, they usually were not. At least a shout to those who made this path possible. I understand the sale perspective and you can easily can find projects if you take a little time and do research.
I hope those SEK are fantasy currency too. Enjoying, thanks a lot for the videos
Well done Simon..I would like to see something similar from you but envelope triggered as well[ setting a threshold to activate it]. An fx loop is also necessary to be able to add filters let's say just on the repeats.
Vision has been used. You know what'd be really mad? Stick some vocals through it!
pretty colors on box. i would do notes on guitar like way one at a time. i liked that first melody you played on the guitar, but i find that mostly instead of continuing, when people use guitar, they play the same loop (?) anyway. i am interested to know what would've come next, had the first part not been repeated! 😃🦋
Hi The MoonDog!
Super Dope! Great Job!
Ima grab 1 me thinks.
A Friend in Chicago!
...uhh MoonDog
This might just be bonkers
Ridiculous and kinda useless. I love it!
😆
At 10:24, it was like looking into a mirror, so cool and so interesting!
look, another thing i need to buy from you. eventually i will get them all
truely BNKRS :D
How would you go about doing this in a daw? I could spend hours fucking with this but I don’t own a synth lol
Try plugging sample&hold into CV ins that don't make sense. Then play with the amount.
(:
You don’t happen to use Bitwig? People (like me) that use to make stuff in The Grid use to get the same ideas as you did. 😁
In Reaper (and I assume other DAW's) you can automate ány parameter. It'll add something on the time-line where you can draw in these parameter changes. And you should be able to control any parameter for most VST's. I'm 98% sure you can use ReaDelay and use that parameter automation to change the delay time.
You might also be able to loop through a bit of modulation-automation. Or to copy and paste it so it repeats.
You could also use VCV Rack (free) and send a sequencers CV Out to a Delay that has a CV input for Delay Time. I used to own the Behringer Neutron and send CV from my Keystep to the Delay time. It was hecking fun.
thanks for the responses! I'll pretend I know what you're all talking about and do some googling and fail to follow your basic instructions haha
Cool answers here! Makes me want to try stuff 😆
Hi. any videos or links on how to build a Pedal? whats needed . Components etc. Thanks
exp ctrl would be rad to change the time to affect the "pitch"
Listening to this pedal has made me feel immensely stoned.
This one's amazing! What will you build next, a full-on synthesizer, with sequencing, etc????????
I mean, he already made a few
I mean a full-on dedicated synth from scratch. Like, with sequencing, etc. He's right there! Sorry, I should have been more descriptive. Amended my comment.@@RGudmetalhead
bruh don't spoil it@@DetroitMicroSound
Spoil what? @@ddcddc_
Ohoho YES! 😁😁😁 so much in the works 😁
Dear Simon, wondering what your thoughts are on the possibility of modifying a reel to reel tape deck into something like a roland space echo ....
Tripwave
Funny how you are trying to describe sound like vine :D
Please invite Devin Townsend for a Jam Session 😆👌
How about you make a pedal that just says "i'm the magpie"?
Nevermind.. i'm gonna do it myself 😂
Man summons aliens: News at 11!
I don't know. I think it gets in the way of the music.
It can be subtle, I’m just really bad at subtle 😅
That's never the tool.. only the composer. This is a creative tool in the correct hands. Most people think to conventionally to be creative past the obvious effects.
I know you're chaotic by nature ... but I would wish for a "more musical" pedal instead of a "very noisy" one. Be it by applying a low pass / high pass to the often extremely distracting delays and take them back a bit ... or a pitch control that is set to 3rds/5ths/octaves. What do you think of that?
Almost as bonkers as the Magpie himself 😂
Waiting for new vid
Take a shot every time Simon says "BNKRS".... (please don't you'll die..) but it really does sound bonkers.
😆
Bonkers all the way.
A wet out?
Try to use condome as a bass string
How much..?
Sounds pretty nuts, in the best way!
I can't tell if you're trolling with your pronunciation of 'vibrato', but it's pronounced the same in English as in Swedish: as in approximately equal to "we good toe".
Thank you! 😁
And I had no idea, haha. I like turn on my ”english” mouth and all kinds of words are wrong, haha. They just fit the way I speak so I go for it. Did not expect it to be samma som på svenska 😆😆😆
@SimonTheMagpie javisst!
I mean, it is only one letter different to "vibrator" which you'd be pronouncing correctly here, but the video would be about something way different and would have an age restriction 🤣
Somebody get one of these to Emily Hopkins...
Send one to that emily girl who plays the harp.
Hey Maggie, where's my pizza?!? 😁
now, make a pedal that is actually usable and musical.
