    (by BLUE EYED BLACK)
Candy Darling was a transgender actress primarily known for her appearances in Andy Warhol's films. She was born James Lawrence Slattery at Long Island on
24th November 1944. The subject of The Velvet Underground song 'Candy Says' and of the second verse of Lou Reed's 'Walk On The Wild Side', she died on 21st
March 1974 from a lymphoma which she developed from taking hormone shots she'd bought on the streets. In a letter penned shortly before her passing, she wrote
to Warhol “Unfortunately before my death, I had no desire left for life... I am just so bored by everything... You might say I am bored to death. Did you know I couldn't
last? I always knew it.” She featured on the cover of The Smiths 'Shelia Take A Bow' and on Antony & the
Johnsons 'I Am A Bird Now.'
