It’s weird how people will believe what Kylo says to Rey about her parents in TLJ, and side with Kylo’s half-sleep induced and manipulative take about what happened when Luke came to confront Kylo-Ben in his hut, when Luke gives us the full account afterwards. @@Morallygreyfangirl Lucasfilm debunked that dumb theory since 2018. It doesn't matter what you want to believe, it's canon that they are not related. Cry more about it if you want.
@@Morallygreyfangirl lol actually they are not related at all haha, even lucasfilms said that was not true. Plus whether you like it or not, reylo is canon. A finnrey relationship would have been so common and boring...plus in my opinion finn is so annoying, they just wasted his character. It didn't seem like rey thought of him anymore than a friend either lol, but she admitted to kylo that she loved him. I like the fact that reylo happened, it was the only thing to me that made the sequels good, their relationship building was the only thing keeping the trilogy together. And btw, it has nothing to do with racism or sexism, so I have no idea where you are getting that...it's just bad writing and directing. Finn was a bad character that's why, not because of the actor at all, because of the writers. Him being with rey would have been so obvious, plus many people like him better with poe. Both rey and kylo found belonging in eachother, they were alone, abandoned and understood eachother. Not to mention the countless times they could have killed eachother and didn't. He helped her find herself, while she helped him find himself. I know it probably won't change your opinion on things, but that isn't my point anyway. I just hope you can maybe see things in a little bit of a different perspective and not call us reylos dumb for thinking their relationship should not have happened. I respect your opinion, just please don't be rude to the others for enjoying the sequels differently than you.
@@decoyaardvark2828 Last Jedi was pretty good. It was setting things up for Rey to turn in the last one and they didn't do it..what the hell is the point of Rey being a palpatine if she isn't going to turn? They could have set up a turn down the line...
Snoke's Missing Hairpiece I think it’s the worse of the trilogy especially with the colours. I mean, I like blue I guess, but geese they went on another levels with it in this movie XD
0:55 - 1:05 Basically what Kylo said was "We are the grandchildren of the last 2 Sith Lords to exist. We are connected" Definitely not a bad idea at all. I just wanted to see more of that Dyad
It is funny because Palpatine is like 89 when he dies. And his granddaughter is ten years younger than Vader's grandson even though Vader died when he was 45 years old... Vader's grandchildren should be atleast 20-30 younger than Palpatine's not 10 years older... It would have made a lot more sense to have Rey be Palpatine's great grandchild.
@@kungolaf4499 Actually, we learn by books that the father of Rey is a clone of Palpatine. And we learn that this is Palpatine the "father" of Anakin, using force to create a baby in Shmi. So Rey could be as the aunt or the grand aunt of Kylo Ren...
@@eggboi5982 Rian clearly established that Ben and Rey are two halves of a protagonist. He could have for example gotten rid off Canto Bight and focused on developing exactly that. And the big twist of the movie would have been that Rey would join the dark and Kylo would join the light. Rian was all about subverting expectations. This would have definetly been up his alley.
@@tyl5628 while I do think Palpatine's return was the worst decision ever in Star Wars history, it didn't ruin Vader's moment. He wanted to save his son, and he succesfully managed to do so. His main goal wasn't to kill Palpatine, so his returning only ruined TROS and Rian Johnson's plan for Kylo. May the Force be with you!
The grandson of the chosen one, the prodigy among prodigies and the person with the greatest fofce potential of all time? Or the apex predator of the force, the dark hole in the living force and the first succesful Sith Emperor of the whole galaxy? Both are very important but in different ways. But Palpatine or Anakin shouldn't be in this movie. Their stories were told.
@@kungolaf4499 glad there's someone who agrees. After I've left the fandom on May the Fourth, I wrote this one line in my (totally empty before) social media bios to show my disgust and so everybody who finds me can know that this fandom isn't great anymore. There are wholesome people in the fandom, but there's too much toxicity. Fortunately, on an Instagram account far from here The Cantina Talk (@thecantinatalk if you have insta and want to follow him, I strongly recommend it) fights this toxicity and his followers give me hope that someday I can remove this line from my bio. May the Force be with you!
I think it's hilarious that in the THIRD movie, the writers are STILL playing this stupid little game of, "Is Kylo good or evil" and all the time the bodies have been piling up behind him.
When you compare Palpatine's and Rey's hatred, their determination, their predilection to cheat during a fight and their signature Senate thrust, it becomes obvious they're related
@@Nicholas_Chen_ Yes, although in Rey's case the optimism was a bit toned down. Palps used to cheer and cackle on every little win, Rey preferred subtle smiles. She only expressed her joy openly while dealing with something great, like the occasion on Pasaama or bypassing the Falcon's compressor.
The biggest clue for me was her accent. I was questioning since TFA why Daisy Ridley stayed with her British accent and John Boyega did not. She had to be related either to Obi Wan, Qui Gonn, or Emporor Palpatine.
@@irish5662 Unfortunately, daisy redly can't seem to act in these films. Always having her mouth open and wearing the blandest clothes/chatacter imaginable
@@grayski3324 I think the story and writing are the weak points. She's a relatively good actress. Also, her clothing has nothing to do with her and everything to do with costume design.
Has anyone noticed that Rey has become calmer when talking to Ben, like when she talked to him through the 2nd forced bond thingy, she was shouting and stuff, unlike now.
Back then..... Darth Vader: No Luke..... I am your father Luke: No..... that's not true..... that's impossible..... Now Kylo Ren: Rey..... you are the Palpatine Literally everyone in Star Wars fandom community including George Lucas: *No..... that's not true..... that's impossible..... *NOOOO!!!!!* It gone from fictional effect into reality real quick!
The whole damn time, my thoughts were screaming "take off that damn glove! Then she will go to you!" I would have loved to see them planning and working together before hand.
Despite being a depressed, abandoned crybaby Kylo Ren is actually pretty intelligent and manipulative. Rewatching this clip and his speech and tone are actually very soft and tempting. If he's not so conflicted, he'd be an epic Sith.
I feel like if he was written better, he could be better than Vader, honestly. If you look back at it, Vader doesn't really have that much screentime or time to develop a backstory. he is a faceless villain who has a good plot twist. He is only expanded on in the EU and is made badass. They had much more time with ren. they could have made him a great villian but they fucked him up.
@@iamnotaweebiswear8940 I agree if they go with the route of Kylo being more badass and manipulative it would improve his role as a villain a great deal. One thing that really stood out from Kylo for me is the vulnerability, and that the films nailed it perfectly, but the other thing is his brain, I think it's one thing that really puts him different to Vader, he showed it in TLJ with killing Snoke. He's Han Solo's son for god's sake, and if they make him the evil force sensitive Han Solo that would actually be really epic.
i am not a weeb I swear there is a reason why he wasnt written like that it shows that he still has conflict with himself and the dark side . Like snoke said to him you have too much of your fathers heart in you this line set up his redemption and shows that the dark side was never his path. Anakin agreed to go to the dark side, but with ben he was sort of forced and manipulated by palpatine which is why he wasnt as intimadating as vadar. He also wasnt a sith he never had yellow eyes like anakin when he went to the dark side.
@@iamnotaweebiswear8940 This is DUMB. Sorry but he was written that way on porpuse. Ben was NEVER Kylo ren. Kylo ren was only an ideal fir Ben which Snoke and Palps wanted him to be: evil without renorse no suffering. Something that Ben never achived. Your comment shows by all respects that the fans are also similar to Ben as they are also attached to the idea of Kylo ren being this three dimensaniol evil character which Ben tried to be but never was. Kylo ren is nothing more than an ideal, an idea.
It's so interesting to see how Kylo Ren has the exact opposite strategy of Vader who made the revelation to Luke out of nowhere while the poor boy had no idea what was coming. The first act of the movie is all about Kylo preparing Rey to hear the worst. First, he warns her that he is gonna hunt her. Then, he tries to check that Palpatine told the truth: why letting her go instead of dropping the bomb while she is still in front of him in the desert and totally in shock because of what happened to Chewie? Then, he is "forcing" her to get the truth about her parents out of her system (which she actually already knew but couldn't admit) while telling her that it was Palpatine behind it. Then again, why giving her the time to recover instead of dropping the bomb while she was a complete mess ? When Rey meets him later, she is strangely calm because it all went out and she is now prepared to hear the worst. And Kylo not only let her the time to ask but reveals her the worst as slowly as possible. That's why I disagree with people who see their interactions as toxic. He is doing the job that Luke & Leia should have (since they knew the truth from the beginning) while preventing that Palpatine makes this revelation (with much worse consequences). And paradoxically, he prevents Rey from being consumed by letting all her pent-up pain and anger getting out of her system the same Luke did with him in TLJ. He is letting her attacking him while just blocking her blows. So either he is the most stupid guy in the universe in trying to turn her...or he actually doesn't really want her to fall to the DS ;)
@@iambuhlockay8007 they're in the ocean fighting for no reason and she stabs him in the chest while he's distracted during the battle. And yes, more irrelevant things happen afterwards. For some reason she uses her BS magic hufflepuff ET powers to heal him and then takes off. And there are more stupid things after that too.
I think that scene from 2:09 was tribute by JJ Abrams( Or probably inspired) to the STAR WARS :THE OLD REPUBLIC where satele shan was escaping from the battle against darth malgus.
You know, in the first movie in one of her visions there was a part where you see someone about to strike her down, and it appears that Kylo saves her. For a while, it also seemed like Rey had suppressed memories. I also liked Johnson's twist that Rey came from "Nothing". Should have had us find out over the second and third movies that she was a starving orphan toddler that Han found, saw she was force sensitive, and brought her to Luke at the Jedi temple. She began to train and build a sibling like bond with the older Ben because they were similar souls, a Diad in the force. When Ben goes Kylo mode and slays all the other padawans, he stops a knight of Ren from killing a little Rey. She runs into the night, into a force sensitive cave and cries out that she just wants to forget it all. Wakes up with her memory gone and everyone assumes she died. Junkers find her. She clings to them like parents, but they ditch her on Jakuu with the name Rey and the feeling that she has a family out there somewhere that will come back for her. This lets the final villain be someone other than Palpatine, Rey still show us you can come from nothing and find your place, and fully justify her taking the Skywalker name at the end. Also sows the seeds for Ben's redemption being "family" based.....but if you really want them to kiss they still can.
This essentially reminds me of Romeo & Juliet mixed in STAR WARS fashion! This is not the first time I noticed the "star-crossed romance" but in the prequels when Anakin (a Jedi) fell in love with Padme (the Queen of Naboo)
Anakin and Padme's end feel a little more tragic than Romeo and Juliet since they both passed away right in front of their children before they even got to hug them.(Padme with baby Luke and Leia and Anakin with Luke)
@@Cyro_2235 possibly, but the name Palpatine is nowhere in the first three films. People were just calling him "the emperor" back then, and this is decades later. How likely is she to know that name growing up alone on a remote planet?
@@Cyro_2235 it's possible and you make good points, but she's on a remote planet decades after the empire fell, and I don't know how much they teach her history when she's a scavenger in the desert. She hadn't heard of Han Solo as a rebel hero, but happened to hear of him as a smuggler. Maybe people in jakku outskirts walked around using palpatine's name in conversation, I dunno. It's possible either way. The one thing I can guarantee is that the filmmakers didn't contemplate these things like you and I have!
In the Duel of the Fates cut of Episode IX, Rey was revealed at the end to be a part of a family that had no ties to anyone: Her real identity, was Rey Solana. Kylo was the one who killed her parents after receiving orders from Snoke to bring her to him, as her potential with the Force rivaled that of the Master of the Knights of Ren. They died to hide her away from him out of a noble sacrifice.
Those claiming this reveal is a retcon are clearly not paying attention to this scene and before and to TLJ. Technically TROS doesn't actually undo TLJ's twist on Rey's parentage. TROS does in fact confirm that Rey's parents are indeed nobodies and junk traders. What Kylo didn't tell Rey was that they CHOSE to be nobodies. Kylo's belief that they sold Rey off for drinking money was actually what Rey herself believed and hid away, Kylo was just regurgitating it to tap into her emotions as it was the WORST thing she could hear in that moment (his has been confirmed by Rian Johnson himself). But TROS expands on that by revealing that Rey's parents made themselves nobodies and sold her to protect her and keep her safe from Palpatine, her granddad. In short, TROS builds on TLJ's twist by adding another layer to it instead of completely dismissing it. Rey's parents are in fact nobodies, but one of her grandparents is a somebody. Rey repudiating her Palpatine lineage and taking on the Skywalker name in the end does in fact carries on from one of the central themes of TLJ and the entire saga in general: a hero can come from anywhere and that it's up to you to forge your own destiny. Not that hard a concept to grasp.
Too bad it was never written to be this way in TLJ. They undo it in the first couple minutes of TROS. Palpatine tells Kylo that the girl isn't who he thinks she is. Then that's when he finds out she is a palpatine.
TheOriginalMan because of how inexplicably powerful she is, because of how much of a Mary Sue is, but that term is sexist, according to Daisy Ridley. And because of how her entire arc in Rise Of Skywalker was to accept her identity, only in the end for her to look at that woman and say with pride and a huge grin: “Rey Skywalker”. Like, so you learned nothing for the entire runtime of the film?! Fucking WOW!
Yeah because it had literally no build up to that so yeah if you are not aware of how bad this films are and have never seen episode 5 or any of the cool ass prequels i suppose you would be mindblown by this
This moment wasnt a surprise at all when I first heard it, I actually thought it was a joke because of how predictable and generic a reveal like this was, I thought I was watching a fan fiction, but no the writers of a million dollar film actually wrote this, and film and put it out there, really this makes me respect Rian Johnsons decotion to just forget about connecting Rey to a lineage in tlj and just saying shes a nobody cause thats the last things fans expect to hear and same with Rey, thats why that reveal in tlj was great, cause it wasnt what the audience expected, the reveal of her being palps granddaughter is someting we wouldve expected cause we were all theorising who she could be related to for years, palpatine, skywalker, kenobi???? and here we are!
Can we just give credit to Kylo Ren for being the only good character in this trilogy , adam driver was perfect choice to play him. I hate this trilogy but I legit think Kylo might be one of the best star wars characters.
He’s the best sequel character but not one of THE best out of all trilogies. Not when you’ve got people like, Vader, Palps, Obi Wan, Yoda, Mace, Grevious, Leia, Han, Luke, Chewy, Lando, Boba, Jango, and I can keep going.
I am on the same boat. I actually quite disliked many aspects here but when we discussed my favorite Star Wars characters with friends through the process of elimimation (we first chose favorite hero and villain from every trilogy, then one hero and villain). I got Obi-Wan and Palpatine but I thought to myself I still wouldn't really consider either of them my favorite Star Wars character. The characters that come to mind through free association are Anakin, Rey and Kylo Ren... And it is weird to think that two of those are from the new trilogy...
I think the Falcon was too close to the star destroyer and the ion cannons or any sort of things that shoot weren't in range to the falcon. The guns are mostly above or below. The area in the video can be found in the sides of the star destroyer
I was honestly kind of disappointed. This could have been handled better but… I don’t know. Something about it rubs me off the wrong way. I would have preferred her family to have ties to nobody we know off. But nope. They messed up and now we are stuck with this :|
@@bravestraven4650 Yeah, it feels like they just rush the movie, I also didn't feel it. But Luke Skywalker's character in Rise of Skywalker is smooth perfectly, while Leia's death completely break my heart...
This would’ve been more positively received if they had Rey go to the Dark side. See what I wanted to happen is that she go to Exegol, succumb to Palpatine’s temptations, kill him and have him possess her. Then Ben, realizing he’s too late, has to find a way to save the woman he loves and purge Sidious’ spirit out of her
For we, that were born after the other trilogies this is a HUGE twist. The I am your Father thing isn't beathtaking anymore because every media already made a parody of this. This twist gave me the same goosebump an 80's dude had with Luke and Vader
I legit freaked out when they revealed this. I had heard fan theories about her being a Palpatine but I didn't think they'd actually do it. I thought it made perfect sense. In hindsight though, I wonder if it would've been better if she was related to someone else, maybe a Kenobi or godforbid no one.
I’m really glad she didn’t freak out like Luke did. I’m rather please she was level headed through this whole thing. I just wished she had a proper training arc, like Kung Fu Panda’s Poe.
In the hands of better writers, sure. Could have mirrored Finn's story of leaving the first order but on a larger scale - and given him something to actually do. Alas, Rian screwed the whole thing up and JJ was left to make something to appease everyone. What a mess.

Kylo ren was only an ideal fir Ben which Snoke and Palps wanted him to be:
evil without renorse no suffering.
Something that Ben never achived. Your comment shows by all respects that the fans are also similar to Ben as they are also attached to the idea of Kylo ren being this three dimensaniol evil character which Ben tried to be but never was. Kylo ren is nothing more than an ideal, an idea.
He was not manipulative here:
He told her the truth. And Rey was tenpted by the darkside. And he wanted her just to be by his side.

Their deaths at the end also have strong Romeo and Juliet vibes. The parallel would’ve been complete if Rey had killed herself after seeing Ben dead.
Anakin and Padme's end feel a little more tragic than Romeo and Juliet since they both passed away right in front of their children before they even got to hug them.(Padme with baby Luke and Leia and Anakin with Luke)

Everytime I think 'maybe I should see the movie, maybe it's not so bad', I then watch a clip and want to bang my head on my desk...
👌
Thank God someone else is smart enough to pick up on this. I don't feel so alone now.
Too bad it was never written to be this way in TLJ. They undo it in the first couple minutes of TROS. Palpatine tells Kylo that the girl isn't who he thinks she is. Then that's when he finds out she is a palpatine.
