Brown trout 001

Brown trout, August 2013, I don't know whether they were fighting or mating or something else. This behaviour was already going on when I arrived, and continued for at least another 15 minutes on a warm and calm afternoon, when the water was low and slow moving, but fairly fresh after recent rain. The water here is about 8 ins to a foot deep. They continued to circle each other, occasionally appearing to suddenly bite each other every now and then. They were about 8 ins long - roughly half the size of the largest brown trout usually seen in this area, which is a recognised breeding area. There is no fishing permitted here.
