Bob is our national treasure. He encapsulates everything. He is honest, eccentric, loveable, self deprecating, abstract and ultimately comedic. You is loved. Look after yourself x
Bob is the person everyone wants to be their friend....full of humour, funny stories, humble, self deprecating, polite, strange.....who wouldn't want someone like Bob in their lives. Everyone loves him.....he is utterly adored.
So true. I used to work with his neice, and she said the same about him...although in the family he's known as 'Uncle Robert...shades of the Alderman there...'
I am so grateful that as an American I stumbled upon Bob Mortimer via Cats Does Countdown during the pandemic. Since then he has became one of my favorite people. Just a gem of a man.
What a great interview! I'm excited to learn that Bob Mortimore wrote a follow-up novel to The Satsuma (Clementine here in the USA) Complex. I thoroughly enjoyed the first and can't wait to read or listen to the next. And I do hope that there is more about Grace to come!
Been a fan for,.. oh,.. wow,.. thirty years (!!!??!!) I love Bob, and i could happily listen to him read the phone book, so when i heard he had a novel out i devoured it and couldn't believe the high quality and content! - It was as if he'd been an author for YEARS. - The plot, pacing, character arcs were all BANG on. After i finished the book the imagery stayed vibrant in my mind for MUCH longer than other books. I'm overjoyed to see there's ANOTHER book, so i'll be leaving the comment section to seek the book out immediately. Thanks Bob! P.S Kids: Don't slip on loose muesli, Don't drink and sleep on a scree!
I am from south America live in Los Angeles and the best thing that happen to me was to find Bob Mortimer. You are all correct he is a national treasure.
Many years ago, at height of shooting stars I bumped into Bob (and Mark Lamar) once while walking through Soho. I was so surprised to see them that I blurted out, 'fucking hell lads, alright?', to which Bob very kindly replied 'alright' and Lamar of course just scowled 😂. What a lovely bloke Bob is. Love him.
Love to hear from Bob, but also have to give some credit to the interviewer here - some really interesting questions. Keeps it conversational and dynamic while also being warm, funny and engaging throughout. Book interviews probably aren't Bob's comfort zone, so he does well to put him at ease.
What a joy to be able to hear Bob's lovely voice & reminiscences! I could listen to him all day. What a hoot! "It's only a pie tin" says Odd Job. Roll on the floor hilarity and if said by anyone other than Bob would just fall flat. Much love to you Bob & can't wait to watch you perform soon again.🥰
Anything Bob's on, I'll give a watch, even here! I also watch some of those "van lifers" he mentioned, he's not wrong about 'em 😆 A very good interviewer too, natural flow and got along with Bob's humour very well. A good watch, thank you for sharing this 👍
This man has the ability to always brighten my day. There’s only one other human that does the same for me and that’s Alan Bennet. Wonderful man Bob, I shall be off to buy the books.
Can't wait for this book, my sister gifted me The satsuma complex, and I couldn't put it down, so pre-ordered this as soon as I heard. My whole family love Bob Mortimer and I've just had surgery so need to rest and this book will help me remember to rest.
Don’t know why, I have a real affection for Bob. He seems such a gentle, interesting and funny man. Love him in gone fishing, and WILTY and have just ordered his new book, as his first novel was a real page turner and so funny!
That was a lovely interview. Interesting to hear about his writing process. I’ve read both his autobiography and The Satsuma Complex. They are brilliant in their lightness. Looking forward to reading Hotel Avocado.
I’ve always loved Bob, from watching shooting stars and Vic and Bobs Saturday night, to watching his fishing program with Paul Whitehouse, I’ve read his first book and now I’m just to start his new one, if you love Bob you will enjoy his books, quirky sweet and funny, laughed out loud at some of the antics, squirrels are prominent that’s all I’m saying 😂
I've just finished listening to it. Really enjoyed it. His writing has definitely come on from the first book. So many voices and lines from other output eg Athletico Mince, Taskmaster. I was sure one of the lines was going to be "Should I strike you?" 😂
If there was ever a man to have the privilege to be in the company of over a pint or a coffee and a slice of Battenberg it’s Bob … as the years go on he reveals so much of the incredible human being that he is and demonstrates to us all to be kind with a smile on your face conquers all
Bob and Vic and Stephen Fry and Rik and Ade and Stu Lee and Billy Connelly. Lucky to have these guys on the telly in my life; they made a +difference to my mental health.
Maybe it's me getting old and grumpy, but I find many of todays comedians distinctly unfunny, and fighting for the limelight on panel shows, they seem to be all me me me! Bob Mortimer however, as far as I'm concerned, stands head and shoulders above so many. Naturally funny, gloriously madcap, and an endearing personality. I could listen to him reading out a recipe and I'm sure I'd laugh. Long live Bob. A national treasure!
He's a brilliant down to earth man....love everything he does and is in...a true comedic gem....keep well Bob and just thinking of your heart please avoid boil in the bag beef 👍👍👍👍
1:32 The film Lockdown was released in the year 2000. Thats 2 books every 20 years. Avery (Jones) returns to college as a competitive swimmer after getting his life back on track. But his life takes another unexpected turn when he and his two friends (Bonds, Casseus) are wrongly accused of murder and end up in prison. Great writing inspiration.
00:00 When me and my brothers were young, we had babysitters to look after us while our parents went on a rare night out. For our treat, we'd have a mars bar...between 3 of us. The fighting for who had the end pieces was mental. 😂😂
So proud of Bob for completing the interview with his eating teeth in. Had he left his talking teeth at home that day or were they in for a full service?
Loved this. Bob has previously used creativity being inspired while being in car in retail park, despite not being a driver. Deliberate obfuscation or just fun?
Yes I heard an interview Bob did with Jesse Thorn on NPR where he said he was advised by "those in the know" that Americans wouldn't understand the word satsuma. Jesse Thorn said the same as you that that's not the case 🤣
At least Bob basically wrote the novel, unlike many celebrities who 'write' novels. Celebrities will always get a novel-writing deal over an unknown writer, and that basically means the best novels will not always get published. Sad.
Bob is our national treasure. He encapsulates everything. He is honest, eccentric, loveable, self deprecating, abstract and ultimately comedic. You is loved. Look after yourself x
He likes cats too!
👏👏
Here here.
He’s a working class hero.
Funny as, when he's on would I lie to you 😅😅

What a lovely comment,I totally agree😊

I hope you've watched all his apprearances on "Would I Lie To You", some of the funniest panel show TV you'll ever see
@@f3ster Yeah, I think Ive seen them all a few times now
Check out Shooting Stars and The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer if you haven’t already
@@VideoColServices Yep, seen all of them I think. Got his audiobooks and watched all the fishing shows too.
What did you make of Sean lock😂 rip
How refreshing to have a genuinely interested interviewer! He was clearly very much on Bob's wavelength.
Is there a better way to spend 20 mins, than to listen to Bob chit chat about something?
The answer is simple,no 😊
No there isn't Bob is a wonderful human
Nope , maybe listening to him and Paul whitehouse nattering about … Paul ? If you could pick a favourite cake what is it 👌😂
….. or even nothing; that’s good too .
In the bath it's a better listen. Egg is obligatory.
Bob, you have bemused fans here in the States. I listen and relisten to your anecdotes with delight. I wish you as much joy as you’ve given me!
Have you read his "And Away" autobiography? It's brutally honest about his heart surgery, weird and wonderfully funny all at the same time.
This is so enjoyable because the interviewer did a great job of meeting Bob at his level with some gentle silliness of his own.
We need to see more of Bob on our tv screens, hes absolutely a wonderful human being, adorable❤❤😊
Bob is such an utter gem of a human. He never fails to make me feel slightly better about life and the world. A true treasure ❤

The best description I’ve ever heard of Bob is that he’s your childhood imaginary friend that’s been brought to life. A national treasure!
I could listen to Bob all day he just makes me smile , isn't he wonderful !🤩🥑
We love you Bob!!
I'm Belgian and I love Bob so much!

What a great interviewer, exactly on Bob's level. Bob is such a legend, looking forward to the new novel!
Bob is such a good lad. we love him :)
Can't wait for this book. The joy that this national treasure has bestowed upon us all for decades is immeasurable ❤
A wonderful interview, an authentic author and loved hearing how he writes, in between tv and sending up/elevating his past.

What a wonderful interview for someone even older than the author. I'm not sure who I love most Bob or Ted
What a smashing bloke. So self-effacing, and naturally funny. Glad that he's back to full-health. Always a joy to watch.

All I know is that I'm fond enough of Bob to make sure that, if he ever visited me, I'd wind my clock up in advance for his convenience.
Just finished ‘The Satsuma Complex’ and have the ‘Hotel Avocado’ cued up on Audiobook (read by Bob himself) - what a time I shall have.
After this, I’m looking up ‘Van Life’, if it amuses Bob then it’s got to be worth a look! Please protect this man at all costs
I thought exactly the same thing 🤣
Immediate like. I'm now here for 18 minutes, guaranteed to laugh and fall in love with this man even more.
Bob is awesome, and has lived an amazing life
I've never heard or read a bad word said about him. Keep being yourself Bob.
Bob is a national treasure and should be knighted.

Lovely interview
Love Bob Mortimer! 😊 Just bought the book for my daughter for Christmas as I bought his previous one for her too.
Bob has enough funny in him to write 100 books with ease. Legend.
Bob and Vic and Stephen Fry and Rik and Ade and Stu Lee and Billy Connelly. Lucky to have these guys on the telly in my life; they made a +difference to my mental health.
Absolutely brilliant and funny 😂
God I love this man
I agree it's such great fun to write yourself out of a corner in a story, that is one of the great joys of writing
Very warm interview, have enjoyed Bob's work since Vic Reeves Big Night Out.

Ooooh - old food! Vesta curry, Smash, proper custard, Shiphams fish or meat paste, I could go on!
I LOVED a Vesta curry, the one with the sultanas in.
@@ChrisH78...and don't forget their Chicken Chow Mein with crispy noodles. The excitement of seeing them grow in the frying pan!😂
I remember Birds Eye boil in the bag beef, I loved it as a kid. Wow, hadn’t thought about that for god knows how long!
Very good interview - and interviewer .
Bob would be a lovely person to have as a friend - and I wouldn't say that about many people.
Just.... aaahhhh. So satisfying!
And now I'm excited cos there's another book!!
Some lovely Battenberg swilled down with a camp chicory coffee. Can't beat a taste of the 70's. Maybe throw in a beef vesta curry too 😋
Just love Bob…….from Nth Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
As a child, I loved those Fray Bentos pies. Especially the pastry. Tish and pish, Bob.
I love you Bob
I want a James May and Bob Mortimer crossover channel

I want Bob to run the world.
Yes, I think Bob probably should run the world.
I've just got the hotel avocado, and it's a real page turner.

If you are talking to someone and the name bob comes up nearly everybody thinks bob mortimer that says what a man he is, absolutly brilliant!!

A whole interview with a Battenburg delicately balanced on his knee, Bob is a master of balance.
I share the same birthday as Bob, and I remember boil in the bag beef 😂
Bob nooooo stay away from the cake , you'll upset Paul. I love your heart 💕 it's not too late for you to love it too.
Within 30 seconds, Bob has already got me laughing,,,, the ratio of cake to marzipan, !!!,,, id love to be in bobs world.🍰🍰🍰
It would be great if Bob wrote a book called the Fray Bento murders…. Enjoyable interview, thank you…
Loved this. Bob has previously used creativity being inspired while being in car in retail park, despite not being a driver. Deliberate obfuscation or just fun?
He is a driver. He drives all the time on Gone Fishing. 😁
As a lonely old man I'd love him as a drinking pal.
I always like to get the end of the Morrisons chocolate Yule Log cos that's where all the extra chocolatey goo is.
The nicest Brit to walk the earth.

In the US the first book is _The Clementine Complex._ Tell my why this was necessary....
Apparently because Americans are not familiar with satsumas 😂
@@Blackcats2228 I am, and I'm American. It's probably because they had a marketing consultant; they are to blame for some really weird ideas....

Weren’t they throwing Satsumas at Jimmy Carr on 8/10CDC in one show? That’s where I first heard the term.
Satsumas also feature in Catterick and Taskmaster...😄🍊
This is so enjoyable! Who is the interviewer?
Interviewer is Will Rycroft. You can see me interviewing all sorts on this channel and plenty more coming up.
@@WaterstonesTV thanks! I'll have a look now to see who else you interview. 😀
If WILTY was his only storytelling, that would be enough. Everything else is a bonus.
Really enjoyed The Satsuma Complex so I'll definitely be buying the new book! Edit: bought. 😊
I used to peel all the marzipan off, scoff that and chuck the sponge in the bin.
Too many spoilers, Bob man, but will still buy it. UTB 😉
Battenburg as well
I saw Bob in Woolworths.
I really miss Birds Eye Boil in the Bag beef.
Preston mentioned. That ring road is now famous.
Boil in the bag beef? Don't remember that! I do remember beef slices in gravy. £1. Can't get anymore. Yummy,
At least Bob basically wrote the novel, unlike many celebrities who 'write' novels. Celebrities will always get a novel-writing deal over an unknown writer, and that basically means the best novels will not always get published. Sad.
I Love Bob. Just Wish He'd wind up the clock!!!
Bob has become my generation’s Eric Morecambe; the nation’s funny uncle.
He's right. Grace keeps banging on at me not to move down South. Not sure what she's up to.
I always thought Gary was Bob!
